Shirley Ann Flanagan
Shirley Ann Flanagan of Hico died Feb. 20, 2008, at Thomas Memorial Hospital in Charleston.
Born July 17, 1949, in Clifty, she was the daughter of the late Howard Elliott and Mary Retta (Strickland) White. She also was preceded in death by two nieces, Melinda White and Heather Malay.
Shirley was a member of Keeneys Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Winona. She touched the lives of many, many children as a kindergarten aide at Divide School for 32 years.
Shirley leaves a legacy of memories for her family.
Surviving: her loving husband of 26 years, Robert Flanagan; daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Robert Grimmett of Winona; grandchildren, Candace White and Joseph Hypes of Winona; brothers, Jeff and Helen May White of New Tazewell, Tenn., Jake and Helen White of Hico, and Jack and Virginia White of Hico; sisters-in-law, Nancy Flanagan of Columbus, Ohio, and Patsy and Tony Malay of Miller’s Creek, N.C.; and 14 nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was Feb. 24 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, with the Rev. Joe Shaffer and the Rev. Danny Legg officiating. Burial followed in White Cemetery on Sunday Road.

Robert Lee Green
Robert Lee Green, 91, of Hilltop, formerly of Raleigh County, died Feb. 21, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born Aug. 27, 1916, at Eccles, he was the son of the late Joshua and Mamie Wilson Green. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, also having been preceded in death by several brothers and sisters, including Grace, Minnie, Annie L., John, George and Fred.
Mr. Green was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was a retired coal miner.
Surviving: his friend and caregiver, Carl Dick of Hilltop.
Graveside rites, followed by burial, were Feb. 23 at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Paul Robert Harry
Paul Robert Harry, 77, of Meadow Bridge, died Feb. 18, 2008, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill following a long illness.
Born May 23, 1930, in Gratton, Va., he was the son of the late John Robert and Tiny Jeanette Killen Harry. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Osborn and Della Jones, and a brother, David Harry.
Mr. Harry was a disabled timberman and farmer. He also loved the outdoors, gardening and gospel music. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Surviving: his wife of 55 years, Pauline Ballenger Harry; sons, Lloyd R. Harry Sr. and wife, Charlene R., of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Paul Dean Harry and fiancé, Nancy Gwinn, of Meadow Bridge; grandchildren, LaShawn Small and husband, Michael, and Rev. Lloyd “L.J.” R. Harry Jr. and wife, Andrea, all of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Desirae Harry, Sienna Small and Makenna Harry, all of Mount Vernon; a brother-in-law, Jim Osborn of Beauty, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Fannie Looney of Columbus, Ohio; seven nephews and three nieces.
Service was Feb. 22 at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Mark Spence officiating, along with a tribute by the Rev. “L.J.” Harry Jr. to the life of his grandfather. Burial followed in Ennis Cemetery, Red Springs.

Valda Zorio Janutolo
Valda Maria Zorio Janutolo, 94, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 19, 2008, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill.
Born Sept. 30, 1913, at McAlpin, she was the daughter of the late Ermino P. Zorio and Edvige Gavina Zorio. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Cleto Janutolo, in 1982; son, Sandro Janutolo; brothers, Pete, Nelson, Valdo, and Jelso Zorio; and sisters, Dora Ramella and Lea Z. Pilato.
Mrs. Janutolo attended Fayetteville United Methodist Church. She was a former owner-operator of Dicarlo’s Pizza in Astoria, N.Y. She was a 1935 graduate of Fayetteville High School.
She loved to travel the world and had taken 21 trips to Europe, including to her second home in Piedicavallo, Italy.
Surviving: her grandson, Peter Janutolo and wife, Laurie, of Madison, Wis.; great-granddaughters, Lydia, Danialle and Sandra Janutolo; a sister, Thelma Timberlake and husband, John, of Des Moines, Iowa; her many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends; and her special “angels,” Cathy Jo Canterbury, Ann Pilato and Laurie Zorio.
Funeral service was Feb. 23 at Fayetteville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn officiating. Burial followed at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Ann Alice Stanevich Neubert
Ann Alice Stanevich Neubert, 87, of Alliance, Ohio, formerly of Oak Hill, died Feb. 25, 2008, in Alliance.
Born March 16, 1920, in Eccles, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Victoria Stanevich. Ann also was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and brothers, Charles Stanevich and John Stanevich.
She moved at the age of one to Summerlee, where she attended grade school and graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1937.
Ann married Leonard Neubert on July 3, 1940. From 1940 to 1957, Ann was a loving housewife and mother to five children. In 1957 to help support the family, Ann took a job as a cook at Rosedale School. She later worked for Dr. Bittinger as an office “nurse,” then worked in the Oak Hill Hospital kitchen.
Her next job was as a receptionist and society editor for The Fayette Tribune. Ann was then employed by the Department of Welfare for 11 years, first as a file clerk and then as an eligibility specialist. She retired in 1973.
Ann’s hobbies were reading, writing, gardening, camping and fishing. She has been a member of the Oak Hill Nazarene Church, where she taught Sunday school classes, for over 50 years. She also was supervisor of the Children’s Department, was Links secretary for the Missionary Society, delegate to missionary conventions, and treasurer of the Shuck Memorial Flower Fund.
Ann loved to write, even having some poems and stories published. Her story, “We Belong to These Hills,” was published in the Ladies Home Journal July 1962 issue.
Surviving: her brothers, Tony Stanevich of Akron, Ohio, and Frank Stanevich and his wife, Margaret, of Seven Hills, Ohio; her sons, Leonard E. Jr. and his wife, Donna, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Thomas of Scottsville, Va., and John of Wooster, Ohio; her daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) Smith of Alliance, and Ramona Reggi and her husband, John, of Wheeling; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at the Oak Hill Nazarene Church with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial will be at High Lawn Memorial Park.

Mary Katherine Tuck
Mary Katherine Tuck, 69, of Rainelle, died Feb. 21, 2008, at her home following a long illness.
Born June 26, 1938, at Meadow Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Mildred Gilkeson Fury. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, John and Jack Fury.
Mrs. Tuck was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving: her husband, Kenneth M. Tuck; a son, Kevin Maynard Tuck and wife, Tina, of Big Sewell; a brother, David Fury of Rainelle; sisters, Martha Fox of Meadow Bridge, Shirley Lance of Bellwood and Betty Finlan of Rupert; and a granddaughter, Rachel Ann Tuck of Big Sewell.
Service was Feb. 24 at Smathers Funeral Chapel, Rainelle, with Pastor Jim Hobbs officiating. Burial followed in Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.

William F. Wilson
William F. Wilson, 77, of Winona, died Feb. 19, 2008, at his residence following a long illness.
Born June 4, 1930, at Edmond, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Cora Propps Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was a member of Keeneys Creek Baptist Church of Winona, a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving: his wife, Louise Wilson; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters.
Graveside service was Feb. 23 at Jeanette Cemetery, Lookout. Burial followed in the cemetery.

Helen Jeanette Zamiela Young
Helen Jeanette Zamiela Young, 67, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 19, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 19, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Rose Lagos Zamiela. Helen also was preceded in death by her husband, Fields R. Young Sr., and a brother, Johnny Ray Zamiela.
Helen enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, cooking, gardening, cleaning and most of all helping others.
She graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill and was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving: her children, Rebecca Redman and husband, Mark, John “Joey” J. Fox II and wife, Elva, and Dana Slater and husband, Carl, all of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Ben Treadway, Mary Rittenhouse, John “Little Joe” Fox III, Christopher “C.J.” Humphrey and Katleigh N. Humphrey; brothers, Walter S. Zamiela and wife, Betty, of Charlotte, N.C., and Frank Edward Zamiela and wife, Marion, of Charleston; stepchildren, Shirley Ann Jordon of Burlington, N.C., and Fields Young Jr. of Independence, Va.; and a host of extended family and friends.
Service was Feb. 21 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Father Paul Yuenger officiating. Burial followed in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.
