Eugene Ray Bailey
Eugene Ray Bailey, 71, of Packs Branch, died March 30, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at the University of Virginia Medical Center following a short illness.
Born Feb. 7, 1937, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Oliff and Daisy Young Bailey. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew Bailey, Vernon Bailey and Leonard Bailey; sister, Cora Bailey Graley; and daughter-in-law, Beverly Manning Bailey.
Eugene was a “child of the King” and a member of Packs Branch Baptist Church, serving God as deacon. He was proud to serve God by caring for the elderly members of the community.
He was a retired coal miner, having worked 37 years in the mines, and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving: his loving wife of 51 years, Ileatta Maynor Bailey; his mother-in-law, Edith Workman of Colcord; sons, Ricky Bailey and wife, Vonda, of Red Star, Randall Bailey and wife, Stephanie, of Prosperity, Billy Bailey and wife, Anna, of Bradley, and Robert Bailey and wife, Dinah, of Packs Branch; daughters, Robin Williams and husband, Dennis, of Packs Branch, and Renae McGinnis and husband, Bruce, of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Racheal Meadows and husband, Bobby, Jeremy Bailey, Lewis Bailey and wife, Yolanda, Matthew Bailey and wife, Courtney, Michael Bailey, Jason Bailey, Joey Bailey, Jonathan Williams, Gary Williams and fiancée, Megan, Ashley Bailey, Amanda Bailey and Dakota Newman; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Meadows, Bailey Meadows, Jacob Meadows, Brenna Bailey, Madison Bailey, Danielle Bailey and Cassidy Bailey; sisters, Evelyn Robinson, Ethel Taylor, Edith Taylor and husband, Johnnie, Linda Toney and husband, Carl, Helen Blevins and husband, Jimmy, and Betty Lou Laxton and husband, Ulysses; special friends, Ed and Verna Osteen and Keith and Janie DeLung; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Service was April 4 at Packs Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Vance and the Rev. Harmon Davis officiating. Entombment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Jessie Barrett, 87, of Harlem Heights, Oak Hill, died April 5, 2008, at Fayette Continuous Care, Fayetteville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Glorious Church of God at Mount Hope. Friends may call one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church.

Ellamae Davis
Ellamae Davis, 60, of Mount Hope, formerly of Naoma, died April 2, 2008, at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Va.
Born March 22, 1948, at Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Esco and Velma Pyatt Peters.
Surviving: her husband of 34 years, John Davis of Mount Hope; daughters, Mary L. Davis and L. Jane Davis, both at home; and a brother, Danny Peters of Whitesville.
Funeral services were April 7 at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with Rev. Benny Turner officiating.

Liselotte Jarrett
Liselotte Jarrett, 88, of Hico, died April 2, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Lisa, as she was affectionately known, was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Hagenow, Germany, the daughter of the late Johannes and Frieda Kloth.
Lisa married Earl E. “Gene” Jarrett, a soldier in World War II, in Germany in 1945 and migrated to America in 1947. She recalled obtaining her American citizenship in 1951 as the proudest moment of her life.
She was a longtime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charleston, although she attended Pleasant View Church of the Brethren at Route 4, Fayetteville, since 1995.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, on Feb. 19, 1995, and sisters, Karla, Elizabeth, Irma and Inge.
Surviving: her son, Eric, and his wife, Cathy, of Hico; her daughter, Joyce Panucci and special friend, Murtala Muhammad, of Charleston; sister, Lydia, of Germany; and brothers, Heinz and Monfried, both of Germany.
Services were April 5 at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, with Pastor Harry Shelton of Pleasant View Church of the Brethren officiating.

Edward L. Kidd
Edward L. Kidd, 78, of Oak Hill, died March 29, 2008, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born Dec. 29, 1929, at Page, he was the son of the late Thomas and Savilla Bocook Kidd.
He was retired from General Motors.
Mr. Kidd was a member of the Gentry Baptist Church, Sanger, and the United Auto Workers.
Surviving: his wife of 56 years, Betty Yarber Kidd; daughter, Jeannie Diana Adkins and husband, Jonathan, of Oak Hill; brother, Thomas Kidd of Oak Hill; sister, Betty Seaman of South Lyons, Mich.; grandchildren, Angela Bonds and husband, Charlie, of Daniels, Shannon Samantha Angel and boyfriend, Chuck Green, of Oak Hill, Jonathan D. Adkins Jr. and girlfriend, Kelli, of Oak Hill, and PFC Joshua Adkins of Oak Hill; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brianna, Caiden, Logan and Alexis.
Services were April 4 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Bill Drennen officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Inez Marks
Inez Marks, 90, of Ansted, died April 2, 2008, at her residence following a short illness.
Mrs. Marks was born Feb. 26, 1918, at Russellville. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church at Fayetteville and was retired from Hawks Nest State Park in Ansted as a cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer T. Marks, in 1965; a stepdaughter, Ruth Armstrong; a stepson, Solon “Sonny” Marks; and five sisters and one brother.
Surviving: stepdaughters, Della Crosier and her husband, John, of Ansted, and Emma Martin of Citronelle, Ala.; a son, Spencer Dale Marks and his wife, Pamela, of Ansted; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were April 7 at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted. Burial followed in the Withrow-Walker Cemetery, Russellville.

Beulah B. McMullen
Beulah Beatrice Neal McMullen, 85, of Lansing, died April 7, 2008, at the Ansted Care Center following an extended illness.
Born April 26, 1922, at Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Sally Holmes Neal. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Willard McMullen, on Nov. 16, 1986.
Mrs. McMullen was a member of the Ames Heights Bible Church and a homemaker.
Surviving: her son, Robert McMullen and wife, Vicki, of Lansing; sister, Barbara Dagata of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sisters, Frances Sizemore of Elkton, Md., and Almedia Hedrick of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Shelly Dagata, Jess and his wife, Brandi McMullen, and Tonja McMullen; and one great-grandchild, Mason McMullen.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10 at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Frank Castello officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Emerson Mollohan
Emerson Mollohan, 89, formerly of Mount Hope, died peacefully at his home in South Charleston on April 3, 2008.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, at Nebo, he was the son of the late John D. Mollohan and Della Ellison Mollohan. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Lee Mollohan; brothers, Snowden Mollohan, Julius Mollohan, Raymond Mollohan, Ray Mollohan; and sisters, Violet Mollohan and Wavileen Starcher.
Emerson was a World War II veteran and a coal miner, having worked both underground and surface mines. He retired in 1983 from Perry and Hylton at Cannelton as a dozer operator after working 36 years with the UMWA.
He enjoyed many of his retirement years on the Williams River in Cowen with his family and grandchildren.

Brenda Kay Williams Reece
Brenda Kay Williams Reece, 63, of Oak Hill, died April 2, 2008, at her home following a long illness.
Born Nov. 21, 1944, at Plum Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Agnes Wriston Williams. Also, her husband of 44 years, Billy Lee Reece Sr., preceded her in death on March 10, 2008. She also was preceded by brothers, Tennis Williams, Cleo Williams, Don Williams and Jerry Williams; and sisters, Alfreda Williams Warrick, Carolyn Williams Dotson and Delana “Dee” Williams.
Mrs. Reece was a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Robin L. Sinkhorn of Oak Hill; son, Billy Lee “Rast” Reece Jr. and wife, Robin Sue, of Hilltop; grandchildren, Hunter Reece and Caitlin Reece; brothers, Robert “Bob” Williams and wife, Dolly, of Detroit, Mich., Ray Williams and wife, Barbara, of Kentucky, and Wayne Williams and wife, Lee, of Taylor, Mich.; sisters, Louanna Dickin, Roberta Stover and Merdea Williams, all of Mount Hope; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were April 6 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Morris Nutter officiating. Burial was at the Tyree Cemetery, Plum Orchard.

Virginia F. Skaggs
Mrs. Virginia F. Skaggs, 90, of Charleston, died April 3, 2008, in Plateau Medical Center.
Mrs. Skaggs was a graduate of Ansted High School and the Charleston Beauty School. She was a retired beautician and a member of Kanawha City Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Grayson Skaggs.
Surviving: her son, Craig Skaggs, formerly of Charleston; brother, Cecil Forsyth of Lansing; grandson, Grayson Eric Skaggs of Irwin, Pa.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bobby J. Williams
Born April 10, 1935, at Rainelle, he was the son of the late Arthur H. and Mary E. Berry Williams. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Ann Berry; brothers, Richard D. and Lonnie E. Williams; and sisters, Alma Coughlin and Lois McClung.
He was a disabled auto mechanic.
Mr. Williams was of the Christian faith and attended the Mission Church at Summerlee.
Surviving: sons, Dennis J. Williams and wife, Vickie, of Burlington, N.C., George W. Williams and wife, Karen, of Strongsville, Ohio, and John M. Williams of Lester; stepson, Frank L. Berry and wife, Martha, of Tazewell; daughters, Angela Loeffler and husband, Gary, of Lochgelly, and Betty Williams of Bristol, Wis.; twin brother, Roy L. Williams and wife, Emma, of Cleveland, Ohio, and brother, Arthur “Junior” Williams of Pennsylvania; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, on April 9, with Pastor Randy McGuire officiating. Cremation followed.
