Sarah Nickole ‘Nikki’ Adkins

Sarah Nickole “Nikki” Adkins, 36, of Oak Hill, died March 26, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House after a courageous battle with Hodgkins lymphoma.

Nikki was born June 13, 1975, at Beckley, the daughter of Brenda Kay and Randall Gillman of Gatewood. She was an awesome daughter, loving mother, wonderful sister, and caring friend to others. She was always laughing or smiling. Nikki is sadly missed by her family and others who knew her.

 She graduated from Oak Hill High School, and worked as cashier at a Co-Mac convenience store.

She graduated from Mountain State University with a degree in Occupational Therapy Assistance.

Surviving: her mom and dad, Brenda Kay and Randall Gillman of Gatewood; her son, Jakob Elijah Cox of Gatewood; her brothers, Jackson David Adkins III of Oak Hill and Joshua Adam Gillman of Gatewood; and her grandparents, Vonn and Junior Gillman of Gatewood.

Funeral service was April 7, 2012, at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Michael Kees officiating. Burial followed in Gillman Cemetery, Gatewood.

Helena Mae Barnett

Helena Mae Barnett, 77, of Maplewood, died April 8, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Danese, surrounded by her loved ones.

Born Feb. 13, 1935, at Sewell, she was the daughter of the late Armick and Carmel Cox Malay. She also was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Barnett; a brother, Lorenzie Malay; and sisters, Margie Hizer and Arlene Bottomly.

Helena attended Chestnut Knob Baptist Church of Layland, was a homemaker, and was of the Baptist faith.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched the lives of so many people. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving: her husband of 60 years, Porter “Buddy” Barnett; daughters, Belva Sheaves and husband Gary “Michael” of Danese, Jeanette Newman and husband Wayne of Rupert, and Gina Ferrell and husband Jeremy of Layland; a son, Mark Barnett of Lewisburg; a stepson, Loren Malay of Hico; a brother, Bob Malay of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Rodney Sheaves, Johnny Sheaves, Kelley Justice, Brandon Holcomb, Kerri Martin, Gracie Ferrell and Grant Ferrell; stepgrandchildren, Brad, Lori and John Malay; great-grandchildren, Travis, Peyton, Ashleigh, Bailey, Brianna, Whittney, Brittney, Jaycob, and Dylan; step great-grandchildren, Dylan, Chasey and Olivia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at the Chestnut Knob Baptist Church of Layland, with Pastor Floyd Bolen officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville.
