Derrenda Ellen Waugh Burgess, 45, of Scarbro, died Feb. 3, 2012, at her home.
Born May 1, 1966, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of Harry Waugh Sr. of Scarbro and Vermeda Toney Snuffer and stepfather Larry Snuffer of Scarbro.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Pauline Pemberton Toney and Leon F. Toney Sr.; an uncle, Leon F. Toney Jr.; aunt, Almeda Smith; and a niece, Tiffany Dawn Cooper.
Derrenda was a 1984 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a disabled sales clerk for Tractor Supply.
Surviving: her beloved son, Ethan Cole Burgess of Oak Hill, and daughter, Tori Nicole Lovern and husband Shane of McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas City, Kan.; brother, Harry D. Waugh Jr. and wife Stephanie of Scarbro; and a sister, Belinda Carol Waldron and husband Allen of Fayetteville.
Funeral services were Feb. 11 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Kenny Smith and Bob Creed officiating. Entombment was at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity.

Linda Teresa Eldridge Calvert
Surrounded by her loving family and pets, Linda Teresa Eldridge Calvert, 55, of Danese, died Jan. 31, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Calvert was cremated. A memorial service will be on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Howard Franklin Calvert officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wanda Marie Sammons Chennault, 62, of Hilltop, died Feb. 7, 2012, at her home.
Born Sept. 5, 1949, at Fort Meade, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Yvonne Sack Sammons.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: her husband, Michael S. Chennault Sr.; son, Chad Edward Shepherd and fiancee Mekinzi of Scarbro; daughters, Tawnee Yvonne Shepherd and fiance Gary Harvey of Oak Hill and Debbie Ellison and husband Bobby of Hico; stepchildren, Michael Chennault Jr. and Ashley Michelle Chennault; a sister, Betty Rakes of Ashland, Ky.; grandchildren, Breanne Naylor, Jayden Shepherd, Haley Schuss and Amber Naylor; five stepgrandchildren; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Perry and Stephen Browning; nephew, Daniel Rakes; and a niece, Suzie Gilbert.
In keeping with her wishes, Wanda was cremated. A memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at 12 p.m. at the Victory Independent Baptist Church in Victor with Rev. Gerald Grant officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Jean Bibb Doris, 82, of Scarbro, died Feb. 6, 2012, at CAMC-General Division in Charleston.
Born April 17, 1929, at Shady Spring, she was the daughter of the late L.J. and June Scarbrough Bibb. Her husband, Alexander “Bill” Doris, and an infant sister, Polly JoAnna Bibb, also preceded her in death.
She was a retired postal clerk.
Mrs. Doris was a member of the Mount Hope Baptist Temple.
Surviving: daughters, Melanie Skeldon and husband Mark of Scarbro, and Leesa Hinte and husband James of Beckley; grandchildren, Brett Bowyer, Jill Bowyer, Andrew Hinte, A.J. Joe Hill
Joe Hill, 70, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 9, 2012, in Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 30, 1942, in Logan, he was a son of the late Joe M. Hill and Mabel O. Hill.
He was an Army veteran and proudly served his country.
Joe will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving: his wife, daughter, son, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Margaret Morton Long
Margaret Morton Long, 51, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 8, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born April 4, 1960, at Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Violet Johnston Morton.
Mrs. Long was a member of the Fayetteville Baptist Church where she continued her work with children, making it her career goal to work early childhood development. She enjoyed being on the sidelines of every ball game her children played and was known by everyone as “Aunt Margie.”
Surviving: her husband, William “Bill” Long; daughter, Erin Long at home; son, Joshua Long at home; brother, Elbert Morton and his wife, Sally, of Lizemores; sisters, Ellen Click and her husband, Curtie, of Gauley Bridge, and Nadine Hamilton and her husband, Ron, of Lizemores; niece, Mary Hamilton; nephews, Jeff Hamilton, and Brian, David and Jamie Click; great-niece, Ryleigh Click; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were Feb. 12 at Fayetteville Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Rev. Ron George officiating.

Weldon W. Mason
Weldon W. Mason, 88, of Victor, died Feb. 11, 2012, following a short illness.
Born Nov. 23, 1923, at Gatewood, he was the son of the late Weldon Mason and Mabel Aliff Mason.
Mr. Mason was a self-employed merchant who had an active business in Ansted for 40 years.
He was a previous member of the Masonic Lodge and an Army veteran of World War II in the 119th Infantry.
Surviving: his wife, Helen Marie Coleman Mason; daughters, Barbara Bennett and her husband, Abe, of Victor, Susan Wilson and her husband, Joe, of Louisa, Ky.; sons, Michael Mason and his wife, Brenda, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Charles Mason of Ansted and Paul Mason of Victor; brother, James Belcher of Victor; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was Feb. 13 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Father Roy Gene Crist officiating. His wishes were honored by cremating him.

Russell Hoops McClung
Russell Hoops McClung, 84, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 8, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House.
Born June 4, 1927, at Fayetteville, he was the son of the late Frank B. McClung and Edith Henley McClung. He also was preceded in death by seven children and his brothers, Bernard McClung and Ray McClung.
Mr. McClung was a U.S. Army veteran.
Russell was retired from General Motors in Detroit, Mich., where he worked as a supervisor for 20 years.
Surviving: his loving wife, Polly Jo Epperly McClung; sister, Audrey Young and husband Otis; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Rev. Ron Richards officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.

Cordia Mae Pegram Miller
Cordia Mae Pegram Miller, 96, of Oak Hill, died peacefully Feb. 6, 2012, at her home.
Born July 27, 1915, at Dothan, she was the daughter of the late J.C. and Willie Jane King Pegram. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Vernon W. Miller Sr. (June 18, 1998); and by two brothers and one sister.
Cordia was a 1932 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a graduate of Morris Harvey College (now University of Charleston.) She also earned graduate credits from WVU.
She was a former employee of the New River Coal Company for 10 years and the Fayette County Board of Education from which she retired after having taught in the system for 32 years.
Cordia held life membership in the Oak Hill High/Collins High School Alumni Association, Fayette County Retired Teachers Association, and the Oak Hill Baptist Church, and was a former member of the Donnelly Bible Class and the Donnelly Circle.
Surviving: daughters, Cora Jane Miller and Elizabeth Ann Miller, both of Oak Hill; son, Vernon W. Miller Jr. and wife Sandy of Scarbro; granddaughter, Katie Nicole Miller Carpenter and husband Eric of Scarbro; brother, Clarence C. Pegram of Bel Air, Md.; and nieces, Linda Pegram of Bel Air, Md., and Norma Townsley of DeWitt, Va.
Services were Feb. 9 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Helen E. Morris, 85, of Clintonville, died Feb. 11, 2012, at home following a short illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1927, in Lookout, she was the daughter of the late Valbert and Mamie French. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; daughter, Janet; grandson, Bobby; and one sister and three brothers.
Mommy loved feeding the wild birds and working in her flowers.
She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker.
Surviving: daughters, Anna Mae Ruby, Carol McKinney and husband Ned, Frances Via and Trish Fleshman and husband Terry; sons, David and wife Pat, Joe, Ronald, Clyde and Doug; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Callahan and Velma Jones; and a brother, Harold French.

Dorothy Jane Patterson
Dorothy Jane Patterson, 85, of Meadow Bridge, died Feb. 6, 2012, in the Putnam Community Medical Center, Palatka, Fla., following a sudden illness.
Born April 13, 1926, at Lockbridge, she was the daughter of the late William and Dona Simms Williams. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Crandall Pershing “Cricket” Patterson; brothers, Albert, Everette, Joseph (Joe), Andrew (Andy), Judson (Judd) and John Williams; sisters, Alva (Alvie) Twohig and Elizabeth (Liz) York; and granddaughters, Dena Gail and Dani Lea.
Dorothy worked as a clerk before retirement and was a member of the Millbrook Baptist Church at Crickmer.
She loved her family, friends, her church and traveling, especially in Florida.
Surviving: her daughters, Charlotte Elaine (Teetle) Kessler and husband Bob of Springdale, and Drema Patterson of Meadow Bridge; sister, Anna (Annie) Fox and husband E.M. Ethel Mae Feazelle Pennington
Ethel Mae Feazelle Pennington, 92, of Beckley, died peacefully Feb. 8, 2012, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley, surrounded by her loving family.
Born June 19, 1919, at Cirtsville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Alexander and Mabel Christine Lafferty Feazelle. Ethel also was preceded in death by her siblings, Pvt. Charles A. Feazelle Jr., Mary Evans, Billy Feazelle, Evelyn Hoskins and infant twin brothers, Melvin and Calvin Feazelle, as well as an infant son, Wayne Pennington.
Ethel Mae graduated from Pax High School where she was a cheerleader and enjoyed being a pitcher on the softball team. As a teenager, Ethel and her sisters Evelyn and Mary sang on the radio as The Feazelle Trio. She enjoyed attending all of the Pax Reunions.
Mrs. Pennington was especially proud of her life-long career as a registered nurse. She graduated from the Kanawha Valley Hospital’s Nurses Training program in 1943. Her father sold a cow for $75 which paid for three years of education at the hospital.
During World War II she was an Army WAC nurse in training at The Greenbrier hotel. In 1955, she was a part of the staff who opened the Miner’s Hospital in Beckley (now Appalachian Regional Hospital). She recalled that Eleanor Roosevelt and John L. Lewis drove by and waved at the staff who were lined up in front of the hospital as the motorcade drove past the new hospital. She went to work at Southern West Virginia Clinic and retired in 1978 after helping many patients throughout her career.
After retirement, she was actively involved in the Beckley American Legion Post 32 and a member of Well I’ll Bee.
She enjoyed sharing her delicious home-baked desserts and candies with her friends, neighbors, and grandchildren. Ethel loved doing volunteer work at the WV State Fair and attending numerous performances by country music stars. She enjoyed Tamarack, Fridays In The Park in Beckley and performances at the Clay Center in Charleston.
Ethel loved life and was very proud of her family. Everyone she touched throughout her life loved her. She will be tremendously missed.
Surviving: her husband of 68 years, Henry Woodrow Pennington; daughters, Patricia Snead of Charleston and Diana Jones and husband Parker of Mt. Sidney, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; brother, Bobby Feazelle of Daniels; and a sister, Betty Wilson of McLean, Va.
Funeral and committal services were Feb. 11 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Ronnie Stapleton officiating. Burial was at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Manalia Lucille Plumley Stover
Manalia Lucille Plumley Stover, 71, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 9, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born Jan. 21, 1941, at Glade, she was the daughter of the late Jack Curtis and Goldie Mae Plumley. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Buit Stover, in June 1982; a brother, Emerson Plumley; and sisters, Erdene Avis, Kathy Pauley, and Betty Basham.
Lucille was a homemaker. She enjoyed canning, quilting and embroidering. She loved the outdoors, including fishing, hunting and camping. She was an avid Bingo player and loved going to yard sales. But most of all, she enjoyed helping people in need.
Surviving: son, Cyrus Curtis Stover and wife Debby of Oak Hill; daughters, Delta Dawn Meadows of Oak Hill, Sandra Hendricks and husband Rod of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Diana Johnson and husband Bill of Rapid City, S.D.; brothers, Elmer Plumley of Canton, Ohio, Lee (Jimmy) Plumley and wife Pauley of Gatewood, and Clarence (Bud) Plumley and wife Jeannie of Dunbar; sisters, Imogene Underwood of Oak Hill and Cleo Raeon of Charleston; granddaughter, Stormy Parsons; grandsons, Charles Johnson, William Johnson, Josh Stover, Hunter Meadows, and Jacob Meadows; great-granddaughters, Cassandra, Alexandra, Molly, Jaelynn; great-grandsons, Fox and Eli; great-great-grandson, Noah; and several special nieces and nephews.
