Robert L. Bays

Robert L. Bays, 85, of Horseshoe Road, Victor, died March 3, 2014, at Mary’s Garden Center in Oak Hill.

Born March 19, 1928, at Nallen, he was the son of the late Leland Bays and Bernice Bays. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Mae Bays, who passed away in September 2012; children, Robert Dale Bays and Herschel Franklin Bays; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Evelyn and Helen.

Bob served his country as a combat soldier during the Korean War and spent many years working in the timber industry.

Above everything Bob greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, and listening to and singing Christian hymns.

Prior to his illness, Bob was an avid hunter and outdoorsman who enjoyed sitting around the campfire with his sons and sons-in-law. Bob’s laugh and his smile, as well as his kindness, will be missed beyond words, however it’s our belief in God’s Word that whosoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord; that gives us the confidence that we will be together again for eternity.

Surviving: his brother, Orville Ray Bays of Colorado; daughters, Karol Haynes and husband Charlie of Oak Hill, Kathy Bragg and husband Ken of Fayetteville, Bobbie Joe Hornsby and husband Gary of Fayetteville, Marcelle Cole and husband Darrell of Saturday Road, Victor, Helen Whited and husband David of Beckley; sons, David Bays and wife Brenda of Victor, and LeLand Bays and wife Jo Ann of Burlington, N.C.; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and a very special childhood friend, James Cole of Charleston.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted with Pastor Morris Nutter officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery at Nallen.

Friends may call at the funeral home chapel Thursday, March 6, from 6 to 8 pm.
