Barbara E. Perkins

Barbara E. Perkins, 71, of Bland, Va., died June 9, 2012, after a long illness.

Barbara was born Feb. 13, 1941, in Scarbro, daughter of the late Curtis B. and Janet Prosser Taylor. She also was preceded in death by a brother, James R. Taylor.

Barbara graduated from Collins High School, Oak Hill, in 1959. She attended Concord College where she met the love of her life, E. Paul Perkins, in December of 1959.

She also was a member of the Bland United Methodist Church.

Surviving, in addition to her husband: her children, Cindy and Tim Adams, Paul C. Perkins, Timothy and Kim Perkins; brother, William C. Taylor; grandchildren, Jason and Eliza Worlledge, Emma Beth Perkins; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda Taylor and Carol Bragg.

A graveside service was held June 12 at the Morning Star Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bland County Rescue Squad or to the Bland United Methodist Church.

Deborah Lynn Smith

Deborah Lynn Smith, 61, of Beckley, formerly of Fayetteville, died June 6, 2012, at her residence following a sudden illness.

Born April 29, 1951, in Whitesville, she was the daughter of Joyce Cummings of Garten, and the late Bert Cummings.

Deborah was a 1969 graduate of Fayetteville High School, but in recent years had made her home in Beckley. Deborah had a ready smile and a heart of gold.

Surviving, in addition to her mother: her husband, Garrel Smith of Beckley, formerly of Fayetteville; her sons, Ian Smith of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Jacob Smith of Beckley; her grandchildren, Aidan Smith, Caleb Smith and Livia Smith; and a host of very dear family and friends that will miss her very much.

The family will hold a private memorial service for Deborah at a later date.
