Elizabeth Ervin Calvert

Elizabeth Ervin Calvert, 92, of Oak Hill, died May 21, 2014, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Oak Hill, following a long illness.

Born at Minden, she was the daughter of the late Morris and Minnie Dial Ervin. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Calvert, along with her brother, Morris Ervin Jr., and sister, Wanda Ward.

She had been employed as a grocery clerk.

Elizabeth was a member of Lifebridge Assembly of God, Oak Hill.

She also enjoyed sewing and quilting.

Surviving: sons, Larry Calvert of Oak Hill and Charles Todd of Traverse City, Mich.; sister, Opal Dixon of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Keri Todd, Jamie Hogerhied, Brad Hogerhied and Charles Todd Jr.; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was May 24 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Shirlie Watson officiating. Entombment followed at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Hazel Ruth Ramsey Hannigan

Hazel Ruth Ramsey Hannigan, 92, of Oak Hill, died May 25, 2014, at home.

Born Jan. 26, 1922, in Logan County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Perry Ramsey. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Lawrence Hannigan, in January 1972; her sister, Kathleen Taylor Withrow; brothers, George Ramsey and William Ramsey; and great-granddaughter, Isabella “Izzy” McManaway.

Hazel graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1940. She entered nurses training in 1942 at Laird Memorial Hospital in Montgomery and graduated in 1945 as an RN.

She married John Lawrence Hannigan on Sept. 4, 1945, and lived in Montgomery where her two children were born.

Hazel was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Laird Memorial Nurses’ Alumni. She moved to Gatewood in 1962 and worked 13 years at Oak Hill Hospital (PMC) before retiring to live in Oak Hill.

Surviving: her daughter, Linda K. (Dale) Clonch of Fayetteville; son, John Wayne (Nancy) Hannigan of Oak Hill; stepson, David L. Hannigan and family of Fostoria, Ohio; grandchildren, Amy Clonch (Will) Thornton, Jenny Clonch (Corey) McManaway, Jody Hannigan, and Jonathan Hannigan; and great-grandchildren, Payton Hannigan, Ben Thornton, Josie Thornton, Zavery McManaway, Zoe McManaway, Kyle McManaway, and Kezlin McManaway.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, May 29, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Mark Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Thursday at the funeral home.
