Richard ‘Rick’ Pennington
Richard C. “Rick” Pennington, 67, of Fayetteville, died Oct. 22, 2012, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born Aug. 19, 1945, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Ballard Richard Pennington and Helen M. Crist Pennington.
Rick was a Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy for 14 years.
He was a self-employed stable owner of A&J Stables.
It was his desire to be cremated and with no services.
Memorials in his memory may be made to the Hawks Nest Bass Club for Advanced Youth Fishing Tournament.

William Lee Shepherd III, 40, of Oak Hill, died Oct. 27, 2012.

Mary Ella Walthall
Mary Ella Walthall, 91, of Meadow Bridge, died Oct. 23, 2012.
Born Aug. 15, 1921, at Lawton, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Lottie Cales McGuire. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Walthall; her son-in-law, Teddy Campbell; brothers, Dick and Jack McGuire; and sisters, Anna Jamesion and Anita McCombs.
Mary Ella was a homemaker who loved her family.
She was a member of the Springdale Church of Christ.
Surviving: her daughter, Jean Campbell of Rainelle; a sister, Deloris Snodgrass and husband Phil of Elizabeth City, N.C; a grandson, Rick Campbell and wife Kimmie of Rainelle; great-grandchildren Richard Campbell of Rainelle, Brandi Owens of Higginsville, Mo., and Nancy Osborne and husband Matt, Travis Keener and wife Cherie, and Cheri Keener, all of Rainelle; 10 great-great-grandchildren and a special niece, Norma Michaels and husband Mike of Meadow Bridge.
Services were Oct. 25 at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Rev. Daniel Cook officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.

Anna Frances Whitlock Wilder
Anna Frances Whitlock Wilder, 81, of Beckley, died Oct. 19, 2012, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born Dec. 7, 1930, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late James Kenneth Whitlock and Icie McKinny Whitlock. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wilder; a daughter, Vaughn Roxanne Thomas; and brothers, Grady Whitlock and Billy Whitlock.
Anna graduated from Marshall University.
Surviving: her son, Matthew Wilder and his wife, Sarah, of Fayetteville; brother, James Whitlock and his wife, Mava, of Fayetteville; sister, Thelma Neal of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Adam Wilder and Jessica Wilder. Anna was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandson next month, Adam Matthew Wilder Jr.
Funeral service was Oct. 25 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor JoAnn Treadway officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
