Lois C. Smith

Lois C. “Cookie” Smith, 75, of Smithers, died March 29, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.

Born June 12, 1936, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Smith.

Lois was a former employee of G.C. Murphy’s in Montgomery and the Smithers Post Office.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Shrine/Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in Boomer and Montgomery.

Surviving: children, Vickie Smith of Smithers and Tammy Curry and her husband, Dave, of Highland Heights, Ky.; grandchildren, Benjamin Smith, April Smith, Vincent Divita, Angela Divita and Hadyen Curry; great-grandchildren, Alexandrea and Christopher Smith; and brother, Angelo Nunley of Smithers.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church in Boomer with Fr. John Rice as celebrant.

Dennie VanMeter

Dennie “Boots” VanMeter, 64, of Bentree, died March 30, 2012, at Johnson’s Care Home, Belva.

Born April 24, 1947, in Bentree, he was the son of the late Johnny and Eva Virginia VanMeter. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi “Bobbie” VanMeter.

He was a coal miner for Cannelton Coal Company and a member of the UMWA.

Surviving: his sister, Myrtle Coleman of Cedar Grove; and niece, Felicia Cogar of Dixie.

Graveside service was April 2 at the Ward Cemetery, Kelly’s Creek.
