Alfred Emanuel Skaggs

Alfred Emanuel Skaggs, 83, of Montpelier, Va., formerly of Ansted, died April 20, 2012.

Graveside services were April 22 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. Freddie Parkins officiating. Burial followed at Westlake Cemetery in Ansted.

Natilla Isabella Foster Smith

Natilla Isabella Foster Smith, 84, of Fayetteville, died April 23, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born Nov. 22, 1927, at Whipple, she was the daughter of the late Wyatt and Tina Treadway Foster. Her husband, Frank Orlando Smith; stepson, Richard Smith; stepdaughter, Donna Abdennour; brothers, Ernest Foster and Merle Foster; and sisters, Katheleen Dawson, Evelyn Rhodes, Polly Biggs and Clara Boggess, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Fellowship Memorial Baptist Church, Oak Hill, and a homemaker.

Surviving: sons, Bobby Gene Copeland of Virginia Beach, Va., and John Smith of Fayetteville; daughters, Patricia Vatillio of Jim Thorpe, Pa., and Sue Toll of Clinton Township, Mich.; stepson, Douglas “Doug” Smith of Dodson’s Branch, Tenn.; sister, Dorothy Franklin of Birmingham, Ala.; 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Harry Fuller officiating. Burial will be at Bays Cemetery, Oak Hill.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Doris ‘Dorie’ Lowry Thorpe

Doris (Dorie) Lowry Thorpe, of Ansted, died at her home April 15, 2012, following a prolonged illness.

Born May 27, 1930, in Ansted, Dorie was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Dainty Hiser. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Lynn Lowry; her husband, Robert Thorpe; and a brother, Oscar Hiser.

Dorie loved her family. Family reunions were enjoyed as an occasion to play her music, to dance, and to read her poetry with those she treasured the most; she enjoyed sharing food and fun with all she knew. She loved using her creative talents with those in need and often visited friends in the nursing home to style their hair for them. Her giving nature was always prevalent in everything she did.

She was a retired beautician and instructor, and attended the Church of the Redeemer in Ansted.

Surviving: a former husband, Fred Lowry of Oak Hill; sons, Michael Lowry and wife Chelsa of Franklin, Tenn., Fred Lowry and wife Jackie of Falls Church, Va., William Lowry and wife Pam of Alamo, Ga., and Wesley Lowry and wife Katrina of Centerburg, Ohio; daughters, Mary Lambert and husband John of Utica, Ohio, and Pamela Minnich and husband Joseph of Toledo, Ohio; sisters, Faye Licklider of Charlton Heights and Betty Neal of Evans, Ga.; brother, Boyd Hiser of Belle; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were April 21 at the Church of the Redeemer in Ansted with Father Roy Gene Crist officiating. Burial followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.

Edna June Walker

Edna June Walker, 79, of Page, died April 17, 2012.

Born June 6, 1932, in Smithers, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Smith Walker Sr. and Bertha Asbury Walker.

Surviving: her children, Billy Eugene Walker of Eugene, Ore., Russell Lewis Walker and Charles Calvert Knight, both of Kincaid, and Irma Fae Fenton, Richard Gene Walker and Mary Ann Linville, all of Page; brothers, Robert S. Walker and Lewis M. Walker, both of Virginia; sister, Mary Ellen Lewis of Fayetteville; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Service was April 20 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
