Margaret Louise Puckett Beirne

Margaret Louise Puckett Beirne, 86, died July 17, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends whose lives she touched so memorably.

Margaret was born on May 22, 1927, a daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Puckett of Kilsyth.

She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil Everett Puckett and Charles “Buster” Puckett, and sister, Charlotte Puckett Bookman.

On Jan. 1, 1947, she married Pete Beirne and together they shared 50 years before his passing in 1996.

She was a 1945 graduate of Mt. Hope High School and a Mustang through and through.

Margaret was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill. She had a very kind and gentle soul, a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others.

Her legacy will live on in those whose lives she touched and who are inspired to realize the goodness she saw in them. The world is a better place because of her presence and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving: her brothers and sisters, Jim Puckett and his wife, Juanita Puckett, of Chesterfield, Va., Bettie Puckett Day and her husband, Pat Day, of Oak Hill, Lois Puckett Tyree and her husband, Larry Tyree, of Wake Forest, N.C., Donald Puckett and Sarah “Jupy” Puckett of Charlotte, N.C., and Sonja Puckett Lohmar of Raleigh, N.C.; and all of her loving nieces and nephews.

Services were held July 23 at Calvary Baptist Church, Oak Hill. The burial immediately followed at High Lawn Memorial Park.

Lois ‘Jenny Wren’ Rice Blaschak

Mrs. Lois “Jenny Wren” Rice Blaschak, 83, of Lancing, Tenn., formerly of Scarbro, died July 19, 2013, after a long illness. Jenny was surrounded by her loving family whom she loved very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Mattison and Arizona Harrington Rice; husbands, Cager D. Howard, and Walter Blaschak; daughter, Freda Babinski; brothers, John Wesley, William J., Charles Casto, Rufus, Thomas, and Hayden Clark Rice; and sisters, Lillie Mae Sanders, Jessie Lee Hamby, Lou-Anna Rice, Nellie Beatrice Seletyn and Mattie Louise Riser.

She was a faithful Christian who loved her Lord. Jenny Wren was an accomplished author of many books, loved painting, and writing poetry and had a love of music and loved playing the organ.

Jenny never met a stranger.

Surviving: daughter, Lou Whitson and husband Curtis of Lancing; grandchildren, Audrey Korgan and husband Michael of Florida, Angela Humphries and husband Don of Lancing, Jarrod Whitson and wife Cyndy of Harriman and Lindsey Johnson and husband Andrew of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Michael, Faith, Brock, Tyler, Nate, Mathew and Ari; and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services were July 22 at Schubert Funeral Home, Wartburg, with Brother Rick Taylor officiating.

Graveside services were July 24 at the High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with Brother Walter Webb officiating.

Carolyn Sue Bowyer Clark

Carolyn Sue Bowyer Clark, 75, of Rainelle, formerly of Oak Hill, died July 17, 2013, at Summers County Hospital in Hinton.

Born May 25, 1938, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Elmer Bowyer and Nancy Elick Duncan Bowyer Geffs.

She was a homemaker.

Carolyn was a graduate of Collins High School in Oak Hill.

Surviving: sons, Nicholas Johnson and wife Dreama of Ronceverte and Lee Johnson of Rainelle, and a grandchild, Gregory Johnson of Ronceverte.

Funeral services were July 21 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with the Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

David R. McKillip

Mr. David R. McKillip, 65, of Mt. Hope, died July 15, 2013.  

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Patricia L. Sedlock

Patricia L. Sedlock, 62, of Hico, died July 17, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.

Patricia was the daughter of Mrs. Marie Hawkins of Little River, Texas, and the late Basil Hawkins. She also was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Thomas Sedlock; her sister, Virginia Jeffcoat; her brother, Charles “Buddy” Hawkins; a special nephew, Gene Neal; and her granddaughter, Casey Dempsey.

Pat was a faithful member of Sunday Road Baptist Church during her life and has taught many kids the importance of having “time to talk to God.” With patience, understanding and unconditional love, her compassion and care for others will leave a memory beyond words.

She also cared for many children who referred to her as “Granny” in her years as cafeteria manager at Fayetteville High School.

Surviving: her husband of 42 years, Andrew Sedlock of Hico; children, Mandy Dempsey and Ryan Dempsey of Victor, and A.J. Sedlock and Adrian Wills of Hico; loving additions that God added to our family, Phillip Dempsey and Amy Hammons; her grandchildren, Alysia Sedlock, Avina Sedlock, Tyler Sedlock, Colin Dempsey, Emily Dempsey, Aaron and Alex Dempsey, and one expected great-grandchild; her sisters and brothers, Cindy and Keith Bennett of Hico, Frank “Buster” Hawkins and Sonia Jones of Lookout, R.P. and Paula Hill of Temple, Texas, Bonnie and Gary Stull of Hico, and Barbara and Pat Isaacs of Hico; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were July 21 at at Sunday Road Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Donaldson officiating. Burial followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.

Greg Allen Stover

Greg Allen Stover, 39, of Sand Branch, died July 19, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born Nov. 10, 1973, at Beckley, he was the son of Roberta Lee Williams Stover of Sand Branch, and the late Roger J. Stover.

 Greg enjoyed the outdoors and tinkering with old cars.

Surviving, in addition to his mother: sisters, Tina Kincaid of Vass Branch,  Amy Ayers and husband John of Beckley and Shelby Bowyer of Clear Fork Road; brother-in-law, Greg Bowyer; special niece, Heather Bowyer; several cousins, nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with Rev. Jerry Tyree officiating. Burial will follow in the Moles – Williams Cemetery at Artie.

Larry Clinton Treadway

Larry Clinton Treadway, 63, of Oak Hill, died peacefully July 15, 2013, at his home following a short illness.

Born June 29, 1950, at Beckley, he was the son of the late Eugene Debba Treadway and Margie Clay Treadway.

Larry attended the Gospel Tabernacle at Oak Hill.

Since his retirement as an electrician and master plumber with the West Virginia Turnpike, he enjoyed bowling, racing his race car on the dirt track at Bradley, and watching NASCAR on television.

Surviving: his loving wife, Shirley Ann (Pack) Treadway; three biological children; stepsons, James McCoy of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Robert McCoy and his wife, Jennifer, of Kentucky; special sisters-in-law, Theresa Pack and her husband, Dallas, of Oak Hill and Susie Duncan and her husband, Freddie, of Oak Hill; one brother; three sisters; several grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; a special niece, Debbie Ward and her husband, Jesse, of Oak Hill; and his two Boston terriers, Trixie and Dixie.

The family received friends July 19 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill. There was no funeral service. Larry will be cremated and laid to rest in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Darrell K. Vandall Sr.

Darrell K. Vandall Sr., 53, of Danese, died July 18, 2013, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home of Oak Hill.

Born June 12, 1960, he was the son of the late Teddy Ray Vandall and Dolphine C. Worley Vandall. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Hiser.

Darrell had worked as a carpenter doing construction work.

He graduated from Meadow Bridge High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Surviving: his wife, Donna Vandall of Danese; daughter, Fallon Vandall of Beckley; son, Darrell Vandall Jr. of Danese; brothers, Dennis Vandall of Indianapolis, Ind., Mark Vandall of Rainelle and Randy Vandall of Beckley; and grandchildren, Zaden and Zadriana Vandall.

Services were July 22 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial followed at Smailes Cemetery at Landisburg.

Nancy Jean Sevy Williams

Nancy Jean Sevy Williams, 77, of Corliss, died July 17, 2013, at her home.

Born July 17, 1936, at Lookout, she was the daughter of the late Snowden and Eva Martin Sevy. Her husband, Carlos Abram “Bags” Williams, preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 2013.

Nancy was a member of the Hilton Village Baptist Church.

She was also a member of the Corliss Red Hat Society and Corliss Garden Club and was a homemaker.

Surviving: her daughter, Vickie Starcher and husband James of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Jerry Sevy of Rainelle; a sister, Effie Crist of Garner, N.C.; a granddaughter, Tara Arias of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Cody Starcher of Columbus, Ohio; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were July 21 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Pastor Eric Keister officiating. Burial was at Pax Community Cemetery at Pax.
