Thomas ‘Tommy’ Franklin Bowles

Thomas “Tommy” Franklin Bowles, 78, of Prince, died May 21, 2013, at his home following a long battle with cancer.

Born Jan. 17, 1935, at Thayer, he was the son of the late William David and Dolly Tincher Bowles. He also was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Tommy served in the United States Air Force. His favorite duty station was Castle Air Force Base, Atwater, Calif. He often referred to his time there was the only place he had ever been that he liked as much as West Virginia.

After working for the Royal and Pocahontas Company coal mines, he went to work for the Eastern Hardwood sawmill.

Tommy’s passion in life was fishing. He spent hours on the New River with his baby brother and best friend, the late David Clyde Bowles. He passed on his love of fishing to his family and grandsons.

In his later years, Tommy became especially close to his sister-in-law, Linda Bowles, often sharing stories of their loved one Clyde.

He was especially fond of photography, always taking pictures of birds and flowers and of the family. Tommy also had an incredible sense of humor. Making people laugh was his gift.
