Danny Joe Blake
Danny Joe Blake, 60, of Princeton, died Feb. 2, 2010, at his home following a short illness.
Born March 30, 1949, at Pax, he was the son of the late Richard Lee Blake and Flora Virginia Martin Blake. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Douglas Blake.
Mr. Blake was a former employee of BJW Printing and Central Printing in Beckley, and retired as the owner and operator of Reliable Printing in Bluefield. He was also a licensed auctioneer.
Mr. Blake was a member of the Painter’s Chapel United Methodist Church at Speedway. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1606 in Beckley.
Mr. Blake had made Princeton his home for the past 15 years.
Surviving: sons, Joe Blake and his fiancée, Dr. Michelle Postelle, of Ghent, and Benjamin Blake of Beckley; daughter, India Blake of Beckley; stepson, Shane Janatolia of Princeton; stepdaughter, Summer Wyatt of Princeton; brother, Frank Blake and his wife, Christine, of Oak Hill; and grandchildren, Tatum Blake and Kylie Mitchell.
Memorial services were Feb. 7 at the Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home Shady Spring Chapel, with the Rev. Tommy Mounts officiating.

Pattie Lee Williams Brooks
Pattie Lee Williams Brooks, 81, of Beckley, died Feb. 5, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley after a battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 8, 1928, at Long Branch, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Virgie Walton Williams. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Brooks, and by two brothers, Frank Williams Jr. and Cyrus Williams.
Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker, and a member of the Long Branch Methodist Church.
Surviving: her daughter, Karen Willey and her husband, Dana, of Harwinton, Conn.; grandchildren, Victoria Willey Richnavsky of Guilford, Conn., and Daniel and Jameson Willey, both of Harwinton, Conn.; niece, Peggy Brown and her husband, Craig, of Beckley; nephew, Richard Williams and his wife, Sallye, of Apopka, Fla.; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were Feb. 10 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Hope. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

Henry Lee ‘Walkco’ Cole
Henry Lee (Walkco) Cole, 78, of Nallen, died Feb. 2, 2010, at Ansted Center, following a long illness.
Born May 14, 1931, in Nallen, he was a son of the late Robert L. Cole and Ada B. Walker Cole. Henry also was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Henry and Percilla Walker, and George and Parthenia Cole; a daughter, Nina Lee Cole Robertson; sisters, Hila Cole Branson and Bertha Cole Skaggs; and brothers, Ralph L. Cole and Rolland D. Cole.
Henry was a faithful member and Sunday school teacher of Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church in Nallen, an Army veteran, member of Summersville Police Department, and a 50-year Masonic member.
He earned a degree from Institute of Applied Science, Chicago, Ill.; graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in Nashville, Tenn.; and earned a B.A. degree from W.Va. State University in Charleston, majoring in Business Administration.
Walkco retired from Lehman Chemical Tank Lines, with 25 years of service.
Surviving: his loving wife, Wanda L. Groves Cole; grandchildren, Katie Cole Robertson and George Cole Robertson; son-in-law, G. Kenneth Robertson of Charleston; a special nephew, David L. Young of Lookout; sister, Phyllis (Cole) Young of Lookout; brother, James F. Cole and wife Joann of Scott Depot; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Feb. 7 at Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church in Nallen, with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating. Burial followed in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Nallen.

Helen M. Davis
Helen M. Davis, 84, of Danese, formerly of Charleston, died Feb. 1, 2010, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ira and Mary Zealie Shuck Davis; sisters, Dorla Davis, Emogene Davis, Irene Wood and Pauline Coffman; and a brother, Eugene Davis.
Helen retired from West Virginia-American Water Company of Charleston, where she worked as an office supervisor. She also was a member of the American Business Women’s Association.
Surviving: sisters, Mabel Bennett of Danese, and Mary C. Bennett of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services and interment will be private.

Gilbert F. Donelow
Gilbert F. Donelow, 79, of Minden, died Feb. 3, 2010, at CAMC-Memorial Division in Charleston.
Born April 29, 1930, at Lawton, he was the son of the late Rollie and Hetty Fitzwater Donelow. A son, Pat; a grandson, Chuck Yeary; sisters, Ethel, Louise, Shirley, Sheila and Wanda; and brothers, Luther and Sammy, also preceded him in death.
Gilbert retired from New River Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA.
Surviving: wife, Bonita Kay Fleshman Donelow; children, Linda Lou Donelow, Brenda Scott, and Floyd Donelow, all of Mount Hope, Sharon Yeary of Ravenna, Ohio, Drema Kay Jones of Asheville, N.C., Gilbert Louis Donelow of Oak Hill, Patty Treadway of Mount Hope, Joey Donelow of Hilltop, Donna Epling of Mount Hope and Ruth Ann Owens of Minden; stepson, Matthew Fleshman of Minden; sisters, Charlotte Wheeling of Richmond, Va., and Mary Shrewsbury and Martha White, both of Ravenna; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Feb. 8 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Darrell Fuller officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Clarice Ann Eastman
Clarice Ann Eastman, 75, of Ansted, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center, following a one-year illness.
Service was Feb. 8 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Warren Gilpen officiating. Burial followed in the Hendrick Cemetery, Turkey Creek, Ansted.

Frances W. Johnson Kincaid
Frances W. Johnson Kincaid, 90, of Page, died Feb. 8, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born Oct. 27, 1919, at Narrows, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Virginia Mae Gilliam Johnson. Her beloved husband, James Allen Kincaid Sr., whom she lovingly called “Jamie,” also preceded her in death. They were married for 65 years before he went to his heavenly home in 2004.
Frances was a life-long member of the Kincaid United Methodist Church. She was also a dedicated member of the Oak Hill Chapter #107 O.E.S., having served in several leadership positions including Past Worthy Matron and, after much hard work, completed all the Chairs.
Her main passions were cooking for her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Kincaid was retired from the United States Postal Service, serving as postmaster at Page.
Surviving: son James Allen “Jay” Kincaid Jr. and wife Mary Jane of Page; daughters, Valeda O’Dell and husband John of Princeton, Beverly LeNoir and husband Steve of Sumter, S.C., and Kathy Selbe and husband Ben of Ripley; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were Feb. 10 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial was at Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid.

Earl Eugene Maynus
Earl Eugene Maynus, 72, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long battle with diabetes.
Born March 23, 1937, at Gallagher, he was the son of the late Benjamin Harrison Maynus and Ada Mary Atha Maynus. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Donald Maynus and Charles Edd Maynus.
Earl was a retired electrician for the Maple Meadow Mines, where he was a member of the UMWA, and was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and loved woodworking in his wood shop, where he loved making swings which were sold all over the country. He was a member of the Lafayette Masonic Lodge 57 AF&AM; at Fayetteville.
Surviving: his wife, Barbara Brown Maynus; his children, Rena Beth Robinson and Clarissa “Lisa” Maynus, both of Fayetteville, and Benjamin Earl Maynus of Richmond, Va.; granddaughters, Donna Renee Lively of Scarbro and Elissa Rose Riley of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Gary Eugene Robinson of Fayetteville; great-grandsons, Jaeden Seth Morton of Columbus, Ohio, and Leslie Thomas Lively III and Tyler Morgan Lively, both of Scarbro; a brother, Clarence Kenneth Maynus of Beckley; and a sister, Dorothy Ellen Toombs of Norfolk, Va.
Funeral service was Feb. 8 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Justin Seay officiating. Burial followed with graveside rites by the Lafayette Masonic Lodge 57 AF&AM; in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Carol Lee England McClung
Carol Lee England McClung, 66, of Glen Jean, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born July 11, 1943, at Herndon, she was the daughter of the late Worther and Mae Church England. Sisters Vernia Moore, Elene Dickerson and Ilene Cook also preceded her in death.
Mrs. McClung attended the Church of God of Prophecy at Pea Ridge.
Surviving: husband, Henry A. McClung; daughter, Samantha McClung Yearego and husband Curtis of Hilltop; sisters, Nina Cook of Helen and Connie England of Mullens; brothers, Worther England and wife Pat of Slab Fork and Bill England and wife Gene of Chesapeake, Va.; grandchildren, Joseph Yearego and Jakob Yearego; and her friend and caregiver, Lynn Fernandez of Oak Hill.
Services were Feb. 9 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Diane Pittman and Rev. Debbie Minor officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Audrey McKinney
Audrey M. McKinney, 79, of Scarbro, formerly of Sophia, died Jan. 31, 2010, at Select St. Francis Hospital in Charleston following an extended illness.
Born Sept. 20, 1931, in Rhodell, she was the daughter of the late Dorsey Lafon and Anna Mae Mitchell. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Almond; brothers, Delore, Garland, Harold Lafon, and Daniel Belcher; and a grandson, Justin McKinney.
Ms. McKinney was a homemaker and a member of Rhodell Church of God. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Surviving: her children, son Herbert “Heckie” McKinney and wife Sue of Beckley, daughter Debbie White and husband Jonathan of Scarbro, and sons William “Rocky” McKinney and wife Judy, and Gerald “Jerry” McKinney and wife Tammy, all of Beckley; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Feb. 4 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Racheal D. Meadows
Racheal D. Bailey Meadows, 31, died suddenly Feb. 5, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley. Racheal has fought a good fight for the past 10 months after receiving a bone marrow stem cell transplant at Ruby Memorial Hospital in May 2009.
Born Feb. 7, 1978, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Ricky Bailey and the late Beverly Manning Bailey. She also was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Eugene Bailey, and maternal stepgrandmother, Kathryn Phillips.
She has been cared for over the past months by her bonus-mom, Vonda Phillips Bailey of Red Star. She was the daughter-in-law of Jerry and Patty Meadows of Glen Morgan.
Racheal was a former employee of Texas Steakhouse prior to her illness. She was a graduate of Mount Hope High School and Valley College of Technology. She was a member of Packs Branch Baptist Church and was supported by her pastor, Sam Vance, and her church family.
Surviving, in addition to her father: her loving and supportive husband of almost 12 years, Robert “Bobby” Meadows; her precious children, Kaitlyn, age 11, and her twins, Bailey and Jacob, age 3, all at home; her brother, Jeremy Bailey of Harvey; a special niece, Brenna Bailey of Oak Hill; paternal grandmother, Ileatta Bailey of Packs Branch; maternal grandparents, Bob and Pearl Manning of Scarbro; her paternal great-grandmother, Edith Workman of Dorothy; her maternal stepgrandfather, Lloyd Phillips of Red Star; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law, church family, co-workers and special friends.
The funeral service was Feb. 9, at Packs Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Sam Vance officiating. Graveside rites were held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Ginny Rose Morris
Ginny Rose Morris, 52, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 2, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born Sept. 12, 1957, at New Eagle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Sam and Frances Segedi Morris.
Ginny was a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania and a member of the WVEA.
A 30-year employee of the Fayette County Board of Education, she taught at Ansted Elementary School.
Surviving: brothers, Wayne Morris and wife Roberta of Delanco, N.J., and Ted Morris and wife Karen of South Park, Pa.
Services were Feb. 4 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Phillip Dent and Pastor Ginger Marshall officiating. Burial was later at Beallsville Cemetery in Beallsville, Pa.

Emma Jean Garrett Price
Emma Jean Garrett Price, 78, of Wriston, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born Jan. 25, 1932, at Wriston, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Jessie L. Plumb Garrett. Her husband, Irvin Lee Price, in 2007; brothers, Marvin Garrett, Daniel Garrett and Albert Garrett; and sisters, Margaret Hamby, Helen Jorden, Doris Ayette, Shirley Kay Holcomb, Mary DelConte, Mildred Goode and Sharon Faye Querry, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Price was a member of the Loup Creek Baptist Church, Wriston, and a homemaker.
Surviving: sons, David Kevin Price and Larry Price, both of Wriston, Sidney Price and wife Mary Lou of Ingram Branch, and Ricky Price and wife Tammy of Oak Hill; daughter, Karen Foreman and husband Mike of Evans; brothers, Michael Garrett and wife Mary of Wriston, Robert Garrett and wife Ruby of Oak Hill, and David Garrett of Fort Atkinson, Wis.; sisters, Betty Jamison of Barberton, Ohio, and Ruth Mullette of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Melvin Clyde Shuemake
Melvin Clyde Shuemake, 59, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 6, 2010, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Beckley.
Born April 24, 1950 at Kingston, he was the son of the late Clyde E. and Almogene Potter Shuemake.
He was a disabled painter.
Melvin was a Vietnam-era U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving: his wife, Teresa Page Lloyd Shuemake; son, Paul E. Shuemake of Florida; daughters, Amanda Martinez of Hialeah, Fla., and Melanie Shuemake of Largo, Fla.; brothers, David Shuemak of Cameron, N.C., and Thomas Shuemak of Taylor, Mich.; sister, Jeanie Mullins-Shuemak of Spring Hill, Fla.; stepdaughters, Sarah Everhart and Shannon Everhart; grandchildren, Dylan Jensen, Kory Jensen, Alyssa Hopkins, Devin Martinez, Antonio Naples, Mikayla Stambaugh and Angelica Stambaugh; and stepgrandchildren, Natasha Askew and Raquan Everhart.
Services will be Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Randy Black officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post #3110 of Oak Hill. Burial will be at Humphrey Cemetery, Long Branch.

Anna Beatrice Smith
Anna Beatrice Smith, 81, of Danese, died Feb. 6, 2010, at her home following a long illness.
She wished to be cremated, and memorial services will be at a later date.

Arlie A. Smith
Arlie A. Smith died Feb. 5, 2010.
Born April 30, 1916, he was the son of the late William “Bill Henry” Smith and Ruthie Payne Smith. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, William, Johnny, Artie “Joe” and Ira Smith, and sisters, Nettie, Martha, Mary, Emma, Barbara, Veda.
Arlie was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the 1st Army of the United States Army. He served from April 1942 to the duration, serving through five major battle from the Invasion of Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he returned home to raise his family by contracting timber for the local mines. After his retirement he enjoyed hunting, gardening and being with his family. He will be missed by all who know this great man and was the last surviving member of his brothers and sisters.
Arlie attended the Lifebridge Assembly of God in Oak Hill.
Surviving: his wife, Lura Toney Smith; daughters, Brenda Smith Goins and her husband, Roger Goins, and Kay Smith Bigelow, all of Oak Hill area; grandchildren, Jon Brian Goins and his wife, Belinda, Dawn Elaine Goins, Thomas and Jeremiah Layne Goins of Oak Hill, and James “Jamie” Bigelow and wife Sherry of Hiton, N.Y.; great-grandchildren, Chasity Dawn Thomas, Zachary Bruce Thomas and Jacob Heath Thomas, all of the Oak Hill area; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Feb. 10 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Rev. Lum Toney officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites conducted by Oak Hill VFW Post 3110.
