Emogene Shamblin Brown, 79, of Oak Hill, died Aug. 17, 2010, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born Aug. 17, 1931, in Clay County, she was the daughter of the late Van and Ossie Shamblin. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Georgie Neff and Mamie Adkins.
For 23 years Emogene was employed by Charlie Jones and Herbert Jones Jr. as farm manager for Lundale Farms in Oak Hill.
Mrs. Brown was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving: husband, Doddy “Boots” Brown; son, Clarence Shamblin Sr. and wife Ramona of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Debra Johnson of Mount Hope and Clarence Shamblin Jr. of Oak Hill; and great-grandchildren, Katlin Shamblin and Shane Johnson Jr., both of Mount Hope.
Services were Aug. 21 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Sam Smith officiating. Burial was at Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.

Connie Louise Overbay Burgess, 66, of Fayetteville, died Aug. 15, 2010, at home.

Ellen Mae Lanham Burks
Ellen Mae Lanham Burks, 68, of Glasgow, Ky., died Aug. 18, 2010, at Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston.
Born and raised in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Dolly Dimple Hudnall Lanham and Herman Noble Lanham. She also was preceded in death by her her husband, James Howard Burks, and brothers, Leonard Ray Lanham and Norman Lanham.
Ellen was homemaker and an avid cross stitcher. Her cross stitched pictures decorate the walls of many homes in both Kentucky and West Virginia.
Surviving: daughter, Sharon M. Coffman and husband Clifford; grandchildren, Charles Coffman and Amy Raynes; great-grandchildren, Leah Coffman-Rinehart, Timothy Raynes and Hannah Raynes; stepson, Thomas Davis Burks and his wife, Vivian; stepdaughter, Janice Davis Jennings and her husband, Brian; brothers, Herman Lanham and Daniel Lanham, both of North Page; sisters, Helen Thomas and husband Gary of Oak Hill, and Linda Bowyer and husband Floyd, and Rosa Harmon of Page; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Aug. 21 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, Glasgow, with burial at the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.

Harmony Madeline Campbell
Harmony Madeline Campbell died Aug. 21, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Born June 23, 2010, in Charleston, she was the beloved daughter of Grant Jasper Campbell and Christie Mae Guthrie Campbell of Oak Hill.
Her grandfather, Greg Campbell, preceded her in death.
Harmony touched many lives during her brief stay with us.
Surviving: her parents, Grant and Christie Guthrie Campbell of Oak Hill; paternal grandma, Beverly Campbell of Oak Hill; maternal grandparents, Randy and Yvette Guthrie of Oak Hill; aunts, Hope Campbell and Jennifer Guthrie; maternal great-grandfather, Everette Harper; many cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, other family and church family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Jones Avenue Church of God, Oak Hill, with Clergy Ralph Shupe, Tonya Shupe, and Patricia Franklin officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Loredia G. Garten, 77, of Gatewood, died Aug. 22, 2010.
Born Dec. 3, 1932, at Fire Creek, she was the daughter of the late James and Gertie Compton. She also was preceded in death by sons, Arnold and Clyde D. Garten; daughter, Sherry Garten; grandchildren, Jason Adams, Kimberly Garten, and Tammy Velazquez; a great-grandchild, Jacob Orly; and brothers, Alton Compton and Jackie Compton.
Mrs. Garten was a member of the Garten Pentecostal Church.
Surviving: her husband of 59 years, Clyde Garten of Gatewood; children, Jay Garten and companion Mary Cross, Randy Garten and companion Diane Billiot, Wanda Adams and husband Doc, and Alonda Adams and husband Leroy, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Tim Garten and wife April of Gatewood; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren with one due in February 2011; and brothers and sisters, Aldon Compton, Dennis Compton and wife Nancy, Harland Compton and wife Geneva, all of Gatewood, Darrell Compton and wife Debbie of Oak Hill, Donna Compton-Stafford of Gatewood, Ella Blake and husband Eddie of RR 1 Fayetteville, Karen Vass and husband Danny of RR2 Fayetteville, and Magalene Stevens of Ravenna, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, at the Garten Pentecostal Church with Rev. Larry Humphrey and Rev. Bruce Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Bibb Cemetery, Gatewood.

Mary Edna Jarrett Giles, 63, of Rt. 3, Fayetteville, died Aug. 23, 2010, at CAMC — General Division in Charleston.
Born Aug. 3, 1947, at Milburn, she was the daughter of the late Cecil Raymond and Ollie Mae Whitt Jarrett.
Mary was a retired foreman for the West Virginia Turnpike. She was a member of the Mossy Living Word Church.
Surviving: daughter, Kelly Giles of Rt. 3, Fayetteville; brother, Bruce Wayne Jarrett and wife Trina of Gatewood; sisters, Linda Kay Rinehart and husband Robert of Fayetteville and Joyce Denice Stover of Scarbro; grandchildren, Michael Andrew McMillion and Kayla Lynn McMillion; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Allen Sparkman and Anthony Michael McMillion.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 28 at 11 a.m. at Mossy Living Word Church in Mossy, with Rev. Paul Basham officiating. Entombment will be at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.
Visitation will be held at Mossy Living Word Church on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Tina Marie Washburn Motley, 51, of Oak Hill, died Aug. 17, 2010, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley after a short illness.
Born Oct. 24, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Gerald Keith and Patricia Ann Perkins Washburn.
Surviving: her spousal equivalent, Dale Smith; son, Aaron Motley and wife Jenna of North Carolina; daughter, Lindsay Motley of Oak Hill; brother, Chuck Washburn and
wife Yvonne of Hilltop; sister, Sue Cales and husband Matt of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Emily, Bentley, Trenton, Briley and Jaelynn; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A memorial service was held at Grace Baptist Church in Fayetteville on Aug. 21.

Linda Lou Stover Moore, 67, of Robson, died Aug. 16, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born March 23, 1943, at Robson, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Layuna Maynor Stover. A brother, Roy Stover, also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Debra Lou Moore Elloittic of Webster Springs; sisters, Goldi Stover and Lucy Stover, both of Robson; and brothers, Ray Stover, David Stover, Rex Stover and Virgil Stover, all of Robson.
Graveside rites and committal service, followed by burial, were Aug. 20 at Settle Cemetery, Mulberry Branch, Robson, with LeeRoy Gray officiating.

Edith Ruby Petro Payne, 84, of Sun, died Aug. 16, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born April 13, 1926, at Price Hill, she was the daughter of the late Tony and Vicie Bryant Petro. A brother, Amos Petro, and two sisters, Jenny Marie Petro and Garnet Juliane, also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: sons, Clifford A. Payne of War, Lewis W. Payne of War and Larry Jr. Payne of Hinsley; daughters, Vicie Ann Riffe of Hinsley and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy of Welch; sister, Elsie Parker of Sun; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Aurritta Corrinne Taylor
Aurritta Corrinne Taylor, 73, of Beckley, formerly of Robson, died Aug.15, 2010 ,at her daughter’s home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Oct. 8, 1936, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Waggoner and Iola Atwood Waggoner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Hardy” Hartford Taylor; her son ,William “Bill” Lee Hoover; and brothers, Norman Waggoner and Charles Glenn Waggoner.
She worked in the banking and insurance industry, and was a caregiver to the elderly later in life. Aurritta was a member of Job’s Daughters in her teen years and member of the Moose Lodge which she loved attending. She was a born-again Christian and attended several churches over the years.
Surviving: sister, Shelia Ann Strain of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter, Shannon Marie Wells, and Brian Keith Lyons of Beckley; son, Donald Leland Hoover and wife Rhoda of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Cody Christopher Wells and Sierra Jordan Lyons of Beckley, Thomas, Donald Jr., Brittany Corrine, and Matthew Donovan Hoover, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; and also five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Saturday at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Paul Zutaut officiating. Burial followed in the Settle Cemetery, Dempsey Branch.

Walter Nelson Underwood Sr.
Walter Nelson Underwood Sr., 61, of Price Hill, died Aug. 19, 2010, at his home.
Born Oct. 21, 1948, at Price Hill, he was the son of the late Alfred Lee and Julia Hamilton Underwood. Five brothers, Alfred Underwood Jr., David Underwood, Tom Underwood, Richard Lyle Underwood and Robert Underwood, and two sisters, Bobbie Jo Swann and Judy Coots, also preceded him in death.
He was a disabled coal miner.
Mr. Underwood was a member of the Price Hill Freewill Baptist Church where he helped build the Auxiliary Building.
Surviving: his wife, Susan Stover Underwood; sons, Walter Underwood Jr. and wife Kathy of Kilsyth, Devon Underwood and wife Beth of Glen Jean, Kevin Underwood and wife Jennifer of Mount Hope, Rodney Underwood of Mount Hope and Christopher Underwood and wife Crystal of Beckley; brother, Randall Underwood and wife June of Mount Hope; sister, Carol Linkous and husband Bill of Sophia; 14 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Aug. 21 at the Price Hill Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie McNeely, Rev. David Brooks and Rev. Milton Williams officiating. Burial was at Bradley Cemetery.

Andrew Justin Zickafoose
Andrew Justin Zickafoose, 22, of Oak Hill, died Aug. 20, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born March 23, 1988, in Beckley, he was the son of Douglas Rand and Carol Harr Zickafoose of Oak Hill.
Andrew was a 2006 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a 2009 graduate of University of Northwestern Ohio. He was currently employed by Walker Machinery in Summersville as a diesel mechanic.
Surviving, in addition to his parents Douglas and Carol Zickafoose: his twin brother, Matthew Zickafoose of Oak Hill; his sister, Jennifer Zickafoose of Smithers; paternal grandparents, Jack and Tot Higgins of Mannington; maternal grandmother, Loretta Harr of Latrobe, Pa.; uncles and aunts: Morton Harr of Latrobe, Michael and Betty Zickafoose of Bristol, Tenn., David and Beatrice Zickafoose of Rosemond, Calif., Jim and Roy Sisk of Danese, Tim and Nancy Zickafoose of Fairmont, and Greg Zickafoose of Beckley; and 10 cousins.
Funeral services were held Aug. 25 at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Oak Hill, with Rev. Ellen L. File officiating. Burial followed at the Shuck-Zickafoose Cemetery at Danese.
