Carol A. Alston

Carol A. Alston, 70, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Mt. Hope, died Jan. 23, 2013.

Funeral services were Jan. 31, at East Washington Heights Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.

Thomas ‘Tom’ Bragg

Thomas Lee “Tom” Bragg, 76, of Oak Hill, drew his last breath on this earth at Bowers Hospice House at Beckley, while surrounded by his loving family.

Raised by Christian parents, he was taught the Word of God on a daily basis and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He will always be remembered by all who knew him as a man of honesty and integrity and kindness. His eagerness to help those less fortunate or those in need were qualities we must all strive to achieve.

He was a graduate of Fayetteville High School.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and prior to his illness he was a heavy equipment mechanic for Pittston Coal Group at Bolt.

Surviving: his loving wife of over 50 years, Shirley Marie (Patrick) Bragg; sons, Thomas David Bragg and his wife, Rowena, of Oak Hill, and Kenneth E. Bragg and his wife, Kathy, of Fayetteville; sisters, Anna Marie Poore and her husband, John, of Beckley, and Mary Elizabeth Burnside of Kincaid; grandchildren, Jason Adam Bragg and his wife, Betty, of Fayetteville, Kenneth Andrew Bragg of Fayetteville, and James Hendrix of Oak Hill; and great-grandchildren, Austin Tyree and Madison Tyree, both of Fayetteville.

Funeral service was Feb. 2 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Delmas Wolfe officiating. Entombment followed in High Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with military rites conducted by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.

Roger White Cummings

Roger White Cummings, 95, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 27, 2013, at the Glen Burnie Nursing Home in Richmond, Va.

Born Sept. 7, 1917, at Wikel, he was the son of the late Andrew and Marie Nelsie Whittaker Cummings. He also was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Alma Pauline Copeland Cummings; his son, Michael Charles Cummings; sisters, Bessie Cummings and Nona Arthur; and brothers, Stanley, Selden and Compton Cummings.

He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Shirley Donnelly Sunday School class.

Roger was a 1937 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley. He was retired from Riverton Coal Company at Krebs.

Surviving: his wife, Iona Miller Cummings; a granddaughter, Cindi Cummings Jones and husband Robert; great-grandchildren, Conard Michael Jones and wife Ashley, Jonathan Jones, Zachary Jones and Rachel Jones; great-great-grandson, Conard Criss Jones, all of Goochland, Va.; a stepdaughter, Joyce Kincaid and her husband, Carroll, along with their family: sons, Scott Kincaid, his wife, Rose, and their children, Matthew and Rachel and Danny Kincaid; and daughter, Crystal Lewis, her husband, John, and their daughter, Hannah; former daughter-in-law, Kay Criss and her son, Scott, and his family as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Jan. 31, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Pastor David Sneed and Pastor Bryan Knight officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
