Clyde A. Burgess, M.D.

Clyde A. Burgess, M.D., 82, of Green Bank, died Feb. 14, 2013.

Born May 3, 1930, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Clyde Austin and Marshie Honaker Burgess.

He graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1948 and attended the University of Dayton and graduated from the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine in 1961.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel in 1996.

Dr. Burgess practiced medicine in Berkley Springs, Philippi and Clarksburg, W.Va., and Ashland, Ky., as well as serving with the U.S. Army in Alaska and Kentucky.

He retired to the beautiful mountains of Pocahontas County and attended Hebron Baptist Church in Green Bank.

Surviving: his wife of 59 years, Christine Haga Burgess; son, Andrew (Linda Gale) Burgess of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Kimberly Burgess, M.D., of Charleston; and a sister, Kathryn Burgess Terwilleger of Willow Street, Pa.

Funeral services were Feb. 18, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Jim Franklin and Pastor Paul Murdock officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Charles Edward Eary

Charles Edward Eary of Eulonia, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.

Surviving: his wife, Faith Alston Eary; children, Florence (Scott) Chever, Charlotte Burdett, Edward (Nevie) Eary, and Nelly (Kelly) Eary; sister, Alyconi (Donald) Babb; and brother, Verla (Ruby) Eary.

A retired Master Sergeant of the Air Force, he was a native of West Virginia and a member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints.

Funeral services were Feb. 14, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Darien, with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery.

Rhoda Virginia Hofstetter, 102, of Ansted, died Feb. 12, 2013, at her residence following a sudden illness.
