Mary Ruth Edwards Hartwell
Mary Ruth Edwards Hartwell, 90, of Mossy, formerly of Powellton, died May 17, 2012, at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hilltop.
Born Sept. 12, 1921, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Gomer and Maggie Vaughn Edwards. Mary also was preceded in death by her husband, William M. "Mack" Hartwell; daughters, Shirley Kourpel and Mary Franklin; a special sister-in-law, Nellie Hartwell; two brothers, two sisters, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Hartwell attended the Fairview United Methodist Church, Mossy, and was a homemaker.
Surviving: daughters, Margaret Grindstaff of Corinne, Della Blake of Montgomery, and Nancy Compton and husband Russell of Mossy; son, Kenny Hartwell and wife Linda of Cleveland, Ohio; 23 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 21 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial was at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Ryan Franklin Hatfield
Ryan Franklin Hatfield, 19, of Danese, died suddenly May 16, 2012.
Born Feb. 18, 1993, in Beckley, he was the son of Billy Franklin Hatfield and the late Pamela Ann Mullins Hatfield. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Michael Bennett.
Surviving: his parents, Loretta May and Billy Franklin Hatfield of Romney; a sister, Tabatha Hatfield of Ohio; brothers, Estil Hatfield and Travis Hatfield, both of Ohio; maternal grandparents, Billy and Lena Mullins of Danese; and paternal grandmother, Barbara Cook of Luray, Va.
Services were May 20 at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Pastor Steve Martin officiating. Burial followed at the Patton Cemetery in Meadow Bridge.
