Marcel Michael Adkins

Marcel Michael Adkins, 53, of Meadow Bridge, died June 29, 2013, from injuries he received in an automobile accident.

Born July 28, 1959, in Chicago, Ill., he was the son of Mary Ann Massuccy and the late Ellis Huston Adkins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Adkins.

He was a self-employed carpet installer and entrepreneur, animal lover and was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving, in addition to his mother: his wife, Tammy Teresa Martin Adkins; daughters, Shelly Walker and husband Aaron of Springdale, Camie Adkins and her companion, Billy Holliday, of Smoot and Audrea Adkins of Meadow Bridge. sisters, Sharon Adkins of Florida, Darlene Goodwin of Shady Spring, Rita McMillion of Daniels, Verla Englert of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Debbie Harris and Carlene Atkinson Segee, both of Spartanburg, S.C.; brothers, Gary Massuccy of Concord, N.C., and Huston Adkins of Burbank, Ohio; grandchildren, Page, Dylan, Daron, Dawson, and one on the way; several nieces and nephews; and his best friends, Bandit and Lola, his dogs that he cherished.  

Funeral services were July 2 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Rainelle, with Rev. John Hart officiating. Burial followed at the Franz Cemetery, Meadow Grove.

James Sidney Allen

James Sidney Allen, 77, of Auburndale, Fla., formerly of Cranberry and Oak Hill, died June 15, 2013.

Born in Cranberry on Aug. 11, 1935, he was the first son of the late Don and Mary Allen of Cranberry. He also was preceded in death by his sisters: Martha, Mona, and Linda; brothers, Walter and Milton; a daughter, Vicki; and three grandsons.

He was a disabled coal miner and member of the UMWA Local No. 5822.

He was of the Baptist faith and attended Auburndale Community Church.

Surviving: his wife, Mary K. Allen; daughters, Janet and John Wiekline of Sandstone, Donna and Eddie Shrout of Kilsyth, and Tina and James Morgan of Beckley; stepdaughters, Sabrina Marshall of Beckley, and Jeania and Rick Dunbar of Roanoke, Va.; stepson, Larry Marshall of Auburndale; brothers, Billy and Patty Allen of Prosperity, Joe and Mary Allen of Carlisle, and Bobby and Kitty Allen of Cranberry; sister, Charlote and Virgil Herron of Oak Hill; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Sid’s life was July 1 at the Cranberry Baptist Church with the Rev. Frankie Lyons officiating, a lifelong friend. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity.
