Clarence ‘LittleWayne’ Bryant Jr.
Clarence “LittleWayne” Bryant Jr., 22, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 31, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center.
Born June 10, 1989, he was the son of Clarence Wayne Bryant Sr. and Virginia Mable Lanham.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Amber Dawn Wingrove; grandfather, Ballard Athens Bryant; and grandmothers, Daisy Loretta Bryant and Mildred Neil Wingrove.
Little Wayne was an honor graduate in 2010 from Fayetteville High School.
Surviving: his parents, Clarence Wayne Bryant Sr. of Bradley and Virginia Mable Lanham and husband Edward of Mt. Hope; brothers and sisters, Gregory Wade Bryant, Aaron Michael Bryant, Megan Clarissa Bryant, and Dakota Blake Lanham, all of Mt. Hope, Ashley Lanham of Montgomery, Kassie Lanham of Mt. Linda Teresa Eldridge Calvert, 55, of Danese, died Jan. 31, 2012.

The Rev. Arthur “Lee” Drennen Sr., 81, of Summersville, died Feb. 4, 2012.
Funeral services were Feb. 8 in the Summersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Campbell, the Rev. Phil Wilson and the Rev. Jamie Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

James Allen Hall
James Allen Hall, 76, of Oak Hill, died peacefully Feb. 3, 2012, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital after a long illness.
Born July 14, 1935, in Vonore, Tenn., he was the son of Allen Mack Hall and Mertice Ethel Giles Hall. James also was preceded in death by his brothers, Jarvis and Benny.
He was a 1953 graduate of Vonore High School where he was a member of the Vonore High School Blue Devils football team.
In 1958 he married Jo Ann Gregory of Maryville, Tenn., and soon after joined the United States Air Force. The couple then moved to Belle, where he began his trucking career under the name of Hall Trucking and then moved to Alabama to continue his trucking career.
In 1963, James and Jo Ann moved to Oak Hill where he established H&H Contractors to construct portions of Rt. 19 into Oak Hill, and then became the sole owner of Concrete Supply Company where he worked until retirement.
After retirement, Mr. Hall established Country Roads Family Raceway and Fun Valley Mini-Golf where he worked as long as his health allowed. He loved his time spent getting to know the local people while laughing and joking with the children.
Surviving: his wife Jo Ann of 53 years; son, Greg and wife Chrissy of Fayetteville; daughters, Patti Blackburn of Fayetteville, and Judy Lively and husband Mike of Oak Hill; sisters, Joyce Crouch and husband Tom of Wartburg, Tenn., and Janice Standridge and husband Doug of Madisonville, Tenn.; grandchildren, John Puckett III and wife Felicia of Knoxville, Tenn., Gregory Hall II and wife Christie of Yukon, Okla., Lindsay Blackburn of Beckley, Kady Howell of Beckley, Kalli Jo Ballard of Fayetteville, and Jared and Kathleen Lively of Oak Hill; and a host of friends and extended family members.
Funeral service was Feb. 6 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Justin Seay officiating. Entombment followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Arthur Lee ‘Moose’ Hamilton
Arthur Lee “Moose” Hamilton, 57, of Second Street, Oak Hill, died suddenly Feb. 1, 2012, at his residence.
Born Aug. 10, 1954, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late E. Arthur Hamilton Jr. and Stella Maxine Painter Hamilton.
Mr. Hamilton was a graduate of Oak Hill High School.
He was a former employee for Georgia-Pacific Corporation in Mt. Hope, and had worked for over 20 years in the coal industry, most recently with Massey Coal at Whitesville.
Mr. Hamilton loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving: his loving companion of 19 years, the love of his life, Kathy Humphrey of Oak Hill; devoted children, Kara Hamilton Kucner of Hamilton, Ohio, and Josh Hamilton and wife Kristy of Princeton; stepson, Shane Humphrey; siblings, Diana Preast and husband Billy of Chimney Corner, and Jim Hamilton and wife Sherry of Oak Hill; nephew and nieces, Scott, Angie, Kimberly and Jamie; special cousins, Cam and Pam Ford; and a host of friends and family.
A time of gathering and sharing was held Feb. 4 at the Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with a brief following. Following the services, the family honored his request; his body was cremated.
Inurnment will be held at a later date in High Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Oak Hill.

Pauline Frances Harry, 76, of Meadow Bridge, died Jan. 30, 2012, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 11, 1935, at Beelick Knob, she was the daughter of the late Alga and Myrtle Goodwin Ballenger. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harry; a son, Lloyd Harry; and a brother, Calvin Ballenger.
Pauline was a homemaker and a member of the Meadow Bridge Holiness Church. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Surviving: her son, Dean Harry of Meadow Bridge; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Harry of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; brothers, Donald Ballenger and wife Jean, Billie Ballenger and wife Mary, and Jimmie Ballenger, all of Loops Road; sisters, Kathy Hellems and husband Bob of Loops Road and Peggy John and husband Bill of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Sheila Ballenger of Florida; in-laws, Jim Osborn and wife Mattie of Kentucky and Fannie Looney and husband Bob of Ohio; a special friend, Rich Price of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; grandchildren, Lashawn Small and husband Tony and L.J. Harry and wife Andrea, all of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; great-granddaughters, Desirae Harry, Sienna Small, Makenna Harry, and Raylee Harry, all of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

John Wayne “J.W.” Hughes, 62, of Mt. Nebo, died Jan. 30, 2012, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston.
Born Aug. 20, 1949, he was the son of Betty Hartley Hughes of Falls View and of the late Paul Fremont Hughes. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Hughes; nieces, Courtney Hughes and Ashley Hughes; and a nephew, Dustin Hughes.
He was a Baptist by faith and was an employee of Assure America Corporation in Weirton, was a firefighter, paramedic and first responder; and was active in the American Red Cross and E-911.
He served as Nicholas County coroner since 2002, and loved to hunt.
Surviving, in addition to his mother: his loving wife of 32 years, Carolyn Parsons Hughes; son, Paul Michael (Tammie) Hughes of China Grove, N.C.; daughter, Megan Lynn Hughes of Mt. Nebo; brother, Larry (Natalie) Hughes of Hico; sister, Tammy (Adam) Brown of Belva; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended fire/EMS family, and beloved granddogs.
Memorial services were Feb. 3 in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Robert Peyton officiating. In keeping with his wishes his body was donated to Science Care of California.

Amey Marie Bryant Morehead
Amey Marie Bryant Morehead, 76, the widow of Willie Clifton Morehead, died Jan. 31, 2012, following a long and enduring battle with cancer, at the Conway Hospital, Conway, S.C.
Mrs. Morehead was born the daughter of George Marion Bryant and Hattie Bell Suttle Bryant on Aug. 19, 1935, in Ansted. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gary Morehead; and daughters, Kimberly Payne and Martha Edwards.
She was a graduate of Ansted High School and a member of Trinity Mission Church in Conway. She committed her life to acts of selfless giving, fervent prayer, and an unconditional love to earn her the distinguished title Beloved Mother.
Surviving: children, Roger Morehead, Linda Carte, Donald (Carolyn) Morehead, Clifton (Lisa) Morehead, Donna (Billy) Kelly, Karen (Jim) Neal, Larry Morehead, Mark (Melanie) Morehead and Terry Morehead; 30 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Jones and Carolyn (Bobby Haga) Bryant; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
A homegoing celebration was held Feb. 5 in Wallace and Wallace Funeral Chapel in Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating. Interment was in the Suttle Cemetery, Lansing.

Robert E. ‘Red’ Pate Sr.
Robert Edward “Red” Pate Sr., 82, of Senecaville, Ohio, formerly of Beckwith, died Jan. 30, 2012.
Born March 29, 1929, at Good Springs, Ala., he was the son of the late Nonie Alton and Lorine Wilson Pate. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Adkins Pate, on Jan. 1, 2006; daughter, Phyllis Jean Pate; brother, Thomas Pate; and sisters, Peggy Fiorello and Louise Hazen.
Red returned to Washington, D.C., when he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving his country during World War II.
He was a retired pipe fitter for Ford Motor Company.
He enjoyed fishing, working around the house, and spending time with his family.
Surviving: his son, Robert E. Pate Jr. and wife Loretta of Katy, Texas; daughters, Vicky Ondrejovich of Elyria, Ohio, Debra Arnold of Columbia Station, Ohio, Teresa McGuire of LaGrange, Ohio, Sheila Priddy of Grafton, Ohio, and Sandra Pate of Cumberland, Md.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Helene Mae Plumley
Helene Mae Plumley, 82, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 4, 2012, at CAMC-Memorial Division, Charleston.
Born Nov. 28, 1929, at Pluto, she was the daughter of Grover D. and Ora Richmond Plumley. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Jerelene F. Young.
Helene was a homemaker and a nanny to her nephews and nieces.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, at Fayette Heights, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Helene was a 1950 graduate of Oak Hill High School. She enjoyed the abundant wildlife that God gave her to watch and feed, especially the many birds that came to her feeders. She knew the names of most of them. Helene and God had their eye upon the sparrow and He now holds her too.
Surviving: her sister, Linda Lee Elmore (Harley) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, G. Donald Plumley of Fayetteville; nephews, Ronald Young (Nancy) of Beckley, Mike Young (Danita) of Fayetteville, Greg Young (Carrie) of Elkview and Marc Elmore of Chattanooga, Tenn.; nieces, Sherri Lucas (Doug) of Glen Daniel and Cathy Gist (Greg) of Plano, Texas. Other survivors include Jamie Young of Hamilton, N.J., Katie Young of Beckley, Stephanie and Mackenzie Young of Elkview, Taylor French of Charleston, Phillip Young of Charleston, Jackson Young and Chris Young, both of Fayetteville.

Virginia Grethel Stepp Riddell, 89, of Oak Hill, formerly of St. Albans, died Feb. 5, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born Dec. 14, 1922, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Isiah and Sadie Collier Stepp. Her husband, Chatham Wheeler Riddell; sister, Florence Copley; and brothers, Dennis Stepp, Clell Stepp, Jack Stepp and Isiah Stepp Jr., also preceded her in death.
She was a member of the St. Albans Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker.
Virginia was a graduate of Magnolia High School at Matewan. During World War II she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C.
Surviving: sons, James McCulty and wife Jennifer of Spencer, Thomas K. Riddell and wife Ann of Oak Hill, and David Riddell and wife Barbara of Cookeville, Tenn.; brother, Bill Stepp of Covington, Ky.; sister, Thelma Spangler of Kanawha City; grandchildren, Matthew McCulty, Evan McCulty, Thomas Alan Riddell, Carrie Lee, Bradford Riddell and Christina Harbison; and 10 great grandchildren.

Patsy Ann Smith, 66, of Oak Hill, formerly from Vineland, N.J., died Feb. 1, 2012, at the home of her son, Richard Smith, and his wife, Jennifer, during a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 12, 1945, in Glen Jean, Patsy was the daughter of the late Edgar Smith and Reva Smith, both of Oak Hill. She also was preceded in death by her son, William (Bill) Smith of Vineland, N.J.; a brother, Leon Smith of Oak Hill; and nephew, Brian Neff of Fayetteville.
Patsy was retired from Fisher and Porter Electronics in New Jersey, but is most lovingly known as the lobby lady at the Oak Hill McDonald’s.
Surviving, in addition to her son and his wife: sisters, Charlotte Johnson and Shirley Sutphin, both of Oak Hill, Loretta Neff of Fayetteville, and Joy Lurenda Smith of South Carolina; brothers, Edgar Smith Jr., Roger Smith, and Vernon Chittum, all of Oak Hill, and Robert Alan Smith of Salem, Va.; seven nieces and 12 nephews; her best friend, Opal Frady of Oak Hill; and a host of other family and friends.

Beulah Evelyn Nickell Tabor, 91, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., formerly of Oak Hill, died Jan. 29, 2012, at Emerald Coast Nursing Center in Fort Walton Beach after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 4, 1920, at Vanceburg, Ky., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Emma Rinehart Nickell. As one of eight children, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph, Russell and Lloyd Nickell.
Mrs. Tabor was a member of the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene and a homemaker.
Beulah married Edward C. Tabor in 1944. From their union came four daughters. They were married 50 years when he went home to heaven in 1994.

Osborne and husband Tom of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Sandra Shaw and husband Bill of Deltona, Fla., Karen Duffel and husband Ken of New Albany, Ohio, and Vicki Scarbrough of Seffner, Fla.; brothers, Charles Nickell of Kimberling City, Mo., Donald Nickell and wife Clara of Wooster, Ohio, and Virgil Nickell of Liberty, S.C.; a sister, Deloris Jean Nickell of Liberty, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rev. Charles Paul Taylor Sr., 81, of Kanawha City, died Feb. 1, 2012, at CAMC General Hospital following a short illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1930, he was a son of the late Thomas and Fannie Taylor. Also preceding him in death are five brothers and five sisters.
Paul was a retired minister for the Church of the Nazarene with 50+ years of service.
Surviving: his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine Adams Taylor; sons, Charles Paul (Kathy) Taylor Jr. of Huntington, Tim Taylor of Alexandria, Va., and Steve (Mindy) Taylor of Cross Lanes; sister, Velma Cyrus of Ohio; grandchildren, Chad (Crystal) Taylor, Benji Taylor, Tiffani (Patrick) Stewart, Devyn Taylor, and Dylan Taylor; and great-grandchild, Makinley Jo Stewart.

Charles Edward Terry Sr., 80, of Sun, died Jan. 31, 2012, at CAMC - Memorial Division in Charleston.
Born Jan. 25, 1932, at Fayetteville, he was the son of the late Walker M. and Mary M. Morris Terry. He also was preceded in death by brothers, Woodrow Terry, Frank Terry and Andy Terry; and sisters, Louise Dunkley, Lorna Bish, Charlotte Sinclair and Ethel Dunkley.
He was a retired postal clerk and carrier for the U.S. Post Office.
Mr. Terry was a member of the Sun Full Gospel Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict having attained the rank of sergeant. He received a Korean Service Medal and ROK Presidential Unit Citation.
Surviving: his wife, Joan Evelyn Lewis Terry; sons, Steven D. Terry of Albuquerque, N.M., and Charles E. Terry Jr. of Princeton; a daughter, Charlotte L. Troyer of Burr Oak, Mich.; a sister, Margerite Warick of Erie, Pa.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Tucker
Robert Lee “Bobby” Tucker, 87, of Kincaid, formerly of Ward, died Feb. 5, 2012, at Hilltop Center, Hilltop, after a short illness.
Bobby was born a baby and even though he was a man in stature he was a child in mind and heart. His parents chose to keep him at home and raise him in the church. When his parents passed away his sister, Freda Buckner, took him in and took care of him. After she passed away, he was taken care of by her daughters, his nieces.
Bobby brought joy to all that knew him in his 87 years because of the love he was taught. He will always be remembered attending church and listening to gospel music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ella Ann Lowery Tucker and his stepdad, Oather Proctor; sisters, Mary Bartt, Doca Lewis, Mildred Ferrell and Freda Buckner; and brothers, Russell Tucker, Rhondes Tucker and Cecil Tucker.
Surviving: sister, Kathryn Washington of Oak Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Ken Souder and Pastor Jack Long officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
