Iona Mildred Miller Burgess Cummings

Iona Mildred Miller Burgess Cummings, 92, of Mechanicsville, Va., died Jan. 21, 2014, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville.

Born April 15, 1921, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Newton C. and Roxie Etta Cummings Miller. Her first husband, Garvis H. Burgess (March 30, 1985), and second husband, Roger White Cummings (Jan. 27, 2013), preceded her in death as did brothers, Gaines Miller, Paris Miller, Ralph Miller and Kellis Miller, and sisters, Louise Legg and Melva Stokes.

 Mrs. Cummings was a retired bookkeeper for having worked for Fayette Motor Company.

She was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, was a member of the Bertie Blake Circle and the Donnelly Sunday School Class.

 Iona was a 1939 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a longtime member of the OHH/CHS Alumni Association.

Surviving: her only daughter, Joyce Kincaid and husband Carroll of Mechanicsville; a sister, Betty Kennedy of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Daniel Kincaid, Scott Kincaid and wife Rose, and Crystal Lewis and husband Johnny; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Kincaid, Rachel Kincaid and Hannah Lewis.

 Funeral services were Jan. 25 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Hill Baptist Church, 613 Lundale Drive, Oak Hill, WV 25901.

‘Temmy’ Ann Wall Ervin

“Temmy” Ann Wall Ervin, 76, of Ansted, died Jan. 22, 2014.

 She was born July 9, 1937, in Whitesville, the daughter of the late Lawrence Lester Wall and Marie Honaker Wall. She also was preceded in death by her husband, E.L. “Chuck” Ervin, on July 21, 2004.

Temmy was a retired school teacher for Fayette County, having taught 28 years in the Ansted Elementary and Middle School system.

 She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Ansted.

Surviving: a son, Link Ervin and his wife, Ginger, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; grandchildren, Dylan Ervin, Landon Ervin, Owen Ervin, Kayla Ervin and Alyssa Ervin; and a loving granddaughter who will arrive soon.

 A private graveside service was held Jan. 25 at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.
