Roger Lee Akers

Roger Lee Akers, 68, of Maynor, died Jan. 27, 2014, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born Aug. 19, 1945, at Summerlee, he was the son of the late Bill and Sadie Nutter Akers. Two brothers, Billy Akers and Johnny Akers, and a sister, Audrey Like, also preceded him in death.

Roger was a coal miner having worked for Perry & Hylton Coal Company.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

Surviving: his wife, Trela Kay Evans Akers; son, Roger Lee Akers and wife Tabitha of Summersville; daughter, Susan Akers of Beckley; brother, Zennith Akers and wife Lucille of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Mary Hatfield of Gilbert, Betty Bartlett of Kinard, Laura Jane Coffman and husband Roger of Charlotte, N.C., and Barbara Arthur; and grandchildren, Sarah Williamson, Jeffrey Akers and Emma Akers, all of Summersville.

Funeral services were Jan. 31 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope. Burial was at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley WV 25801.

Edgar Lee ‘Eddie’ Bowyer

Edgar Lee “Eddie" Bowyer, 61, of Fayetteville, died Jan. 28, 2014, at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Born July 22, 1952, at Oak Hill, he was the son of Elizabeth Allen Bowyer of Fayetteville and the late Walter Bowyer. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Lillian Bowyer.

Eddie was a carpenter and had worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Surviving: his wife, Karen Treadway Bowyer of Fayetteville; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Bowyer Linton of Huntington; mother, Elizabeth Allen Bowyer of Fayetteville; and grandchildren, Johnathan Linton and Cameron Linton.

It was his request to be cremated with no services.
