Morton G. ‘Morty’ Smith

Morton G. “Morty” Smith, 55, of Hico, died June 2, 2013, at his home in Hico, following a short illness.

Born June 17, 1957, at Gauley Bridge, he was the son of the late Morton Givens Smith Sr. and Dolores Lee Wood Violet and stepfather John H. Violet of Springfield, Ohio. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Frances Smith.

Morty worked as a diesel mechanic for a utility company and was of the Protestant faith.

He loved talking on his ham radio, and taking scenic photos outdoors.

Surviving: his companion, Nina Bonanno of Hico and her children, and her father, Hobart Rogers, and wife Katherine and their children; mother, Dolores Wood Violet and stepfather John of Springfield, Ohio; brother, David Gorman Smith of Hico; several cousins and other extended family and many, many friends.

Services were June 6 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Ansted. Entombment followed at Chapel of Rest Mausoleum in Victor.

The family requests donations of sympathy be made to Hospice of Southern WV at 456 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.

Richard Ivan Stonestreet

Richard Ivan Stonestreet, 58, of King, N.C., formerly of Kincaid, died May 29, 2013, in King, N.C.

Born Jan. 25, 1955, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Raymond Fredrick and Sylvia Smith Stonestreet.

He was a disabled coal truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving: his wife, Michelle Hines Stonestreet; twin sons, Richard Stonestreet and Charles Stonestreet of King, N.C.; daughters, Emma Waller of Mount Airy, N.C., Mistie Dolin of Page and Sylvia Stonestreet of King, N.C.; brothers, Gerald Stonestreet of Oak Hill and Dennis Stonestreet of Glasgow; and six grandchildren.

Richard was cremated. A memorial service will be on Friday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Freewill Baptist Church in Robson with Pastor Gary Philpott officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend this time of remembrance.
