Patricia Ann Chittum Bland

Patricia Ann Chittum, 69, of Gatewood, died July 3, 2010.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville. Burial will follow at the King Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Glenna Louise Bowles

Glenna Louise Bowles, 61, of Oak Hill, died July 2, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.

Arrangements are pending completion at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 S. Kanawha St. Beckley.



Sarah Lee ‘Sally’ Drake

Sarah Lee “Sally” Drake, 76, of Oak Hill, died June 28, 2010, at the home of her caregiver, Sue Gilkerson in Fayetteville.

Born March 6, 1934, at Ward, she was the daughter of the late Lambert Ellsworth and Alice Hannah Latham Drake.

Moving to Oak Hill in 1945, Sally was a 1952 graduate of Collins High School. She worked for many years at the Oak Hill Theater.

Sally was a talented artist and musician who had dedicated her life to the arts. She was a former member of the Fayette County Community Chorus.

She is survived by several cousins.

Always a caring individual, it was her request that her body be donated to the Marshall University School of Medicine so that she would continue to be of help to others.

She requested no service be held.

Ethel Reed Adams Fagg

Ethel Reed Adams Fagg, 88, of Gatewood, died July 2, 2010, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home, Oak Hill.

Born Jan. 4, 1922, in Cunard, she was the daughter of the late Frank David and Iva Mae Johnson Reed. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Frank S. “Pete” Adams and Fred L. Fagg; brothers, Earl and Carl Reed; sisters, Alice Dover and Alma Campbell; and grandson, Michael Andrew Fowler.

Surviving: her son, Dr. Dan Adams and wife Roberta of Leesburg, Va.; daughters, Nancy Adams of Amissville, Va., and Barbara Coffman and husband Jim of Fayetteville; niece, Nora Reed of Fayetteville; nephew, Carl Reed and wife Jody of Lucinda, Pa.; grandchildren, Quentin Adams and wife Maggie, Erin Adams, Barbara Brown Adams, Julie Spencer and husband Winn, Jimmy Coffman and wife Pam, and Jonathan Coffman; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; sisters, Ruth Henderson of Silver Spring, Md., and Anna Woodrum and husband Marvin of Dagsboro, Del.

Graveside services were July 5 at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, with Rev. Jackie Pittman officiating.

Jerry L. Kincaid

Jerry L. Kincaid, 49, of Mount Hope, died June 27, 2010, at his home.

Born Sept. 16, 1960, at Oak Hill, he was the son of Virgil Kincaid Sr. of Glen Jean, and Linda Ryder Kincaid Swaggerty of Mount Hope.

A brother, Bobby Joe Kincaid, preceded him in death.

Mr. Kincaid was a member of the Sand Branch Worship Center.

Surviving, in addition to his parents: daughter, Sammie Jo Kincaid of Maple Fork; son, Jerry Lee Kincaid Jr. of Maple Fork; sisters, Ruth Gunter McMillion and husband Terry of Hilltop, Shawna Dillon and husband Allen of Hedgesville, Loretta Ratliff and husband Ronnie of Martinsburg and Debbie Kincaid of Mount Hope; and a brother, Virgil Kincaid and wife Kimberly of Mount Hope.

Services were July 1 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Rev. Ken Souder officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Oak Hill.

Julian George Settle

Julian George Settle, 83, of Lansing, died July 1, 2010, at home.

Born Feb. 8, 1927, in Lansing, he was the son of the late Charlie L. and Celia Jane Atkinson Settle. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Settle, in 1993; brother, Edward Dupuy Marty, in 2006; and great-grandson, Brian Edward Marty in 2007.

Mr. Settle served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Infantry.

He retired from Elkem Metals, Alloy, on Dec. 31, 1986. 

Surviving: his daughters, Tammy Workman and her husband, John, of Lansing, and Crystal Settle Kerwood and husband Jeff of Oak Hill; son, Julian George Settle Jr. of High Point, N.C., and Julian George Settle III of Lansing; and brother, Shirley Settle of Ohio.

In keeping with Mr. Settle’s wishes, private graveside services were held on July 3. He was buried beside his beloved wife, Mary.

Beulah ‘Booie’ Frances Miller Smith

Beulah “Booie” Frances Miller Smith, 97, formerly of Oak Hill, died June 30, 2010, at a New Albany, Ind., care center following a long illness.

Born Aug. 11, 1912, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Orpha Kincaid Miller. Her first husband, Cecil H. Treadway; second husband, Charlie W. Smith; sisters, Mildred Burgess, Beatrice Ross and Louise Jordan; and brothers, Julis Miller, Russell Miller and Charles Miller, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the Oak Hill First Presbyterian Church and Garden Club. She was a homemaker.

Surviving: her son, Cecil “C.R.” Treadway and wife Patricia “Patty” Bowyer Treadway of Clarksville, Ind.; sister, Betty Gaye Legg of Oak Hill; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were July 3 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Paul Neil officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

James M. Withrow

James M. Withrow, 67, of Midlothian, Va., originally residing in the Washington, D.C. area, died June 30, 2010, following a prolonged illness.

Born June 30, 1943, in Fayetteville, he was the son of the late Carl and Vivian Withrow.

Mr. Withrow lived with his wife in the Brandermill area outside of Richmond, Va. He had retired to the area  in 2007 after 40 years in the wholesale paper industry.

When he retired, he served as vice president and general manager of Frank Parsons America, a division of Frank Parsons Paper Company, Inc. He was an extremely dedicated sales person, well liked and respected throughout the paper and printing industry.

Surviving: his wife, Susan S. Withrow of Midlothian, Va.; his son, Stephen E. Withrow; daughter-in-law, Carla Rae Withrow of Gaithersburg, Md.; brothers, Kenneth L. Withrow of Fayetteville, and Jerry H. Withrow of Martinsburg; sister, Lela D. Chupka of Midlothian, Va.; nephews, Scott Withrow, Kevin Withrow, Michael Withrow and Michael Chupka Jr.; niece, Terri Ann Dantzic; great-nephews, Jeremy Bartgis, Chase Withrow and Kevin Withrow Jr.; great-niece, Allison Stricklin; and great-great-nephew, Noah Stricklin.

Viewing was held at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. 23224 on July 6. Funeral service followed immediately at Bliley’s-Chippenham Chapel.

A remembrance of Jim Withrow was held immediately following the service at Brandermill Country Club, 3700 Brandermill Pkwy., Midlothian, Va. 23112.

Burial will be held at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville on Thursday, July 8 at 11 a.m.

Rebecca N. Wood

Rebecca N. Wood, 81, of Oak Hill, formerly of Fayetteville, died June 28, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center.

Mrs. Wood is survived by a daughter, Alma Simpson; a son, Olen D. Wood; a sister, Yvonne N. Caddell; and five grandchildren.

Services for Mrs. Wood were held July 1 at the Stedman Baptist Church. Burial was in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.



Jason Michael Woolwine

Jason Michael Woolwine, 35, of Oak Hill, died June 28, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House.

Service was July 2 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with entombment following in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
