Harland P. Compton

Harland Preston Compton, 70, of Fayetteville, died March 22, 2012, at the Beckley Veterans Hospital with his family surrounding him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gertie Compton; his brothers, Jackie and Alton Compton; and his sister, Loredia Garten.

He attended Oak Hill Brethren Church where a dinner will be served following the funeral services.

Surviving: his wife of 45 years, Geneva Adkins Compton; sons, Eric Compton and Craig Compton; grandson, Arritt, all of Fayetteville; sisters and brothers, Aldon Compton, Dennis Compton and his wife, Nancy, Donna Stafford, Ella Blake and her husband, Eddie, all of Gatewood, Karen Vass of Fayetteville, Darrell Compton and his wife, Debbie, of Oak Hill, and Magalene Stevens of Ravenna, Ohio; lots of nieces and nephews; and the Adkins family that love him and plenty of friends.

Funeral services were March 27 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Eva May Crist

Eva May Crist, 72, of Mt. Nebo, formerly of Ansted, died at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, on March 24, 2012.

Born April 23, 1939, in Ramsey, she was the daughter of the late Raleigh Osington Dempsey and Mildred Evelyn Alley Dempsey. Eva also was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Lloyd Dempsey, and a son-in-law, Brian “Pete” Caudill.

Eva touched the life of everyone she came in contact with; she was a wonderful Mom, Mawmaw, sister and aunt. She will always be loved, truly missed and never forgotten by all.

She was of the Baptist faith and a disabled Home Health worker.

Surviving: daughters, Tina Louise and David McCallister of Mt. Nebo and Gayle Lynn Caudill of Ansted; a son, Gary Wayne and Kathy Dempsey of Ansted; stepsons, Jerry and Dawn Crist of Ansted and James Crist of Chesterfield, Va.; sisters, Evelyn and Clarence Eastman of High Springs, Fla., Elizabeth JoAnn Willis of Fayetteville, and Carolyn and Pete Legg of Horseshoe; brothers, Emory and Patti Dempsey of Southington, Ohio, Raleigh (Sunny) Jr. and Charlotte Dempsey of Summersville, Ralph and Betty Dempsey of Obetz, Ohio, Ray and Kathy Dempsey of Ansted, and Clarence and Christine Dempsey of Horseshoe; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 28 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted with Pastor Danny Legg officiating. Burial followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.
