Anna Lee Murphy McDaniel

Anna McDaniel, 73, a resident of Highland Home Care Center of Ridgeland, Miss., formerly of Meridian, died March 16, 2012.

Born Oct. 12, 1938, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late George Murphy and Roxie Louise Daniel Murphy. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, Gary W. McDaniel, in Nov. 1981; and her brother, George David Murphy of Waxahachie, Texas.

Ms. McDaniel was a devoted military wife and loving mother. While in Charleston, S.C., she volunteered her time to the MenRiv Park Chapel. At the Meridian Naval Air Station, she volunteered at the base chapel and was active with the Ladies Auxiliary.

Anna worked for McRae’s in the cash office and retired from Goody’s Dept. Store in 1999.

She enjoyed participating in the Meridian Bowling League, playing golf at Meridian NAS, traveling and reading.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meridian.

Surviving: daughters, Ruth Ann McDaniel Lathem and her husband, Skip, of Forest, and Susan Elaine McDaniel Ordich and her husband, Scott, and their son Brooks of Boynton Beach, Fla.; sister, Shirley Murphy Myers and her husband, Jack, of Tiverton, R.I.; brother, Robert Murphy and his wife, Carolyn, of Arlington, Texas; sisters, Judy Murphy Rowe of Meridian and Jane Murphy Keith and her husband, John, of Fayetteville; sister-in-law, Sheila Murphy of Waxahachie, Texas; 12 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held March 24 at First Baptist Church in Meridian, with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating.

Jeffrey Mullins

Jeffrey Mullins, 28, of Beards Fork, died March 23, 2012.

James David Nix

James David Nix, 67, of Oak Hill, died March 19, 2012, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born Sept. 22, 1944, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late James Ray and Helen Elizabeth Lucas Nix.

He was a self-employed carpet installer.

James was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Surviving: stepdaughters, Louise Hunt and husband C.D. of Beaver and Barbara Painter and husband Tom of Oak Hill; brother, Charles Nix of Oak Hill; sister, Karen Hanlin of Dallas, Texas; step-granddaughter, Ka Fortner and husband Jason of Prosperity; niece, Debbie Kuntz and husband Pete of Dallas, Texas; and nephews, Matthew Nix, Andrew Nix and Mark Nix.

Mr. Nix was cremated. A memorial service was held March 24 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Randy McGuire officiating.
