Virginia Pauline Fox

Virginia Pauline Fox, 83, of Hurricane, formerly of Ansted, died Aug. 2, 2012, at CAMC-Teays Valley Division.

Born Aug. 25, 1928, in Rich Creek, Va., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin C. and Margret Cecil Morrison. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil M. Fox, and three brothers and five sisters.

She was a former employee of the State Police Academy.

Surviving: her children, Marlyn Kay Harris (Charles Harris) of Hurricane, and James Allen Fox of Temple, Texas; her sister, Hazel Williams of Hampton, Va.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Aug. 5 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek, Va., with Rev. Jason Smith officiating. A gathering of family and friends followed at the home of her niece, Scarlet Ratcliff in Rich Creek.

Hattie Skaggs Hardy

Hattie Skaggs Hardy, 77, of Fayetteville, died Aug. 3, 2012, at Summersville Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 2, 1935, at Ansted, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Lillie McHenry Skaggs. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Everette Hardy Sr., on Feb. 14, 1990; daughter, Doris Faye Hardy; sister, Audrey Fox; and brother, Elmer Skaggs.

Sister Hardy attended the Freewill Baptist Church at Ansted. She loved the Lord, enjoyed crocheting and spoiling her grandchildren.

She was a very special babysitter.

Surviving: her sons, Charles E. Hardy Jr. and wife Beth of Charleston, and Carl Hardy and wife Shelly of Pool; daughters, Darlene Masters and husband Roy of Gauley Bridge, Della Griffith and husband Marvin of Chelyan, Dena Lane and husband Gaylord “Speedy” of Victor, and Duska Canterbury and husband Allen of Ansted; sister, Nancy Foster of Michigan; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Charles E. Hardy Jr. and the Rev. Tony Hinkle officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Ansted.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the funeral home.
