Shirley E. Settle

Shirley E. Settle, a native of Oak Hill, 90, died peacefully on June 21, 2012, at Summit Villa Care Center in his current home town of Tallmadge, Ohio.

He was born in Lansing to the late Charles and Selah Jane Atkinson Settle. He also was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Elizabeth Dravenstott Roseblock; daughter, Joyce Neidert; brothers, Julian Settle and Charles Settle; and sister, Colleen Denoff.

He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army from 1943-45.

He retired from Elkem Metals Plant in Alloy.

Shirley enjoyed having his family around him and had a fun-loving sense of humor that we all will miss. Gardening, fishing and hunting were among the activities he enjoyed. He also enjoyed cooking and canning and spending time with his dog, Barnie.

Surviving: daughters, Shirley Terrell (Bobby) Sullivan of Rex, Ga., and Sue (Tim) Twohy of Wasilla, Ark.; sons, Wayne (Sharon) Settle of Akron, Ohio, and Ronald (Dixie) Settle of Roanoke, Va.: 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Service was in the mausoleum at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, on June 26, with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park.

Gideon L. Yoder

Gideon L. Yoder, 69, of Loops Road, Rainelle, died June 29, 2012, at his home following a battle with cancer.

Born April 13, 1943, in New Castle, Pa., he was the son of the late Lester and Martha Wengard Yoder. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wyatt Yoder; stepson, Donnie Crookshanks; grandson, Cameron McCoy; and a brother, Samuel Yoder.

Raised Amish, Gideon was a hard-working man who loved his family. He worked as a maintenance electrical technician for the Rainelle PSD office.

He was a faithful member of the Elton Community Church. Gideon will be remembered for his infectious smile.

Surviving: sons, Danny Yoder of Garrettville, Ohio, and Gideon Alex Yoder and wife Stacy of Shreveport, La.; daughters, Jennifer Church of Loops Road, Rainelle, April Wood and husband Billy of Springfield, Tenn., Bobbie Vandall and husband Wayne of Meadow Bridge and Ellen McCoy of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother Elmer Yoder; sisters, Ada Druhot, Saloma Byler, Katie Ann Miller and Sarah Bolyard; 12 grandchildren; stepchildren, Margie Greer, Marie Crookshanks, Nellie Wyatt and Ira Bryant; and 8 stepgrandchildren.

Services were July 3 at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bennie Kenney officiating. Burial followed in the Sims Cemetery on Loops Road, Rainelle.
