Sergio ‘Sam’ Mosquera

Sergio “Sam” Mosquera, 85, of Lookout, died March 28, 2014, at the Ansted Care Center, Ansted, following a long illness.

Born Nov. 4, 1928, in Celenova, Spain, he was the son of the late Sergio Salgado and Jovita Luaces. He also was preceded in death by an infant son, Sergio Mosquera Jr.; a sister, Lola Castro; and a brother, José Mosquera.

He came to America in 1946 and began working in the coal mines at Nuttlebury. In 1953 he started Sam’s Market at Lookout and it closed in 2007. In 1969 he started a carwash and laundromat and the second Sam’s location at Ansted.

Sam loved life, working and talking to people and he was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving: his loving wife of 45 years, Jewell Arbaugh Mosquera; sons, Tony Mosquera and his wife, Rita, of Hico and Sammy Mosquera of Lookout; daughter, Anna Maria Mosquera of Lookout; grandchildren, Joey Mosquera and his wife, Mettie, of Salem, Ore., and Jennifer Ellison and husband Josh of Hico; great-grandchildren, Max Mosquera of Oregon and Evan and Jasper Ellison of Hico; and sister, Esparanza Pereez of Newark, N.J.

Funeral services were held April 2 at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted, with Father Carlos Melocoton officiating. He will be laid to rest on Thursday at Highlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Mona Dae Redden

Mona Dae Redden, 69, of Meadow Bridge, died March 28, 2014, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 31, 1945, at Davis, Okla., she was the daughter of the late Otis and Ina Mae Cunningtubby Lampkin. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Luther, Paul, Gary, and Billy Lampkin.

Mona had worked as head cashier at Kroger’s for 32 years, and was a homemaker.

Surviving: sons, Alan Redden and wife Tammy, and Curtis Redden and wife Becky, all of Meadow Bridge; sister, Jan Carrillo (Lupe) of Ardmore, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Lampkin, Nell “Sissy” Lampkin, and Mona Lampkin; brothers, Raymond Lampkin (Nora) of Ardmore, Okla., and Robert Lampkin of Davis, Okla.; grandchildren, Kristen, Alex, Ally, and Shaely; and special friend, Vicki Rider of Corliss.

Services were March 31 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Mike Nutter officiating. Burial was at Patton Cemetery, Meadow Bridge.

The family requests donations of sympathy be made to Bowers Hospice House at 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
