  — Sadie Mae Bragg Baughn

Sadie Mae (Bragg) Baughn, 89, of Belpre, Ohio, died Sept. 21, 2013, at CCMH, Parkersburg.

Sadie was born on July 26, 1924, at Prince, daughter of the late Samuel H. Bragg and Dartha (Ward) Bragg. Sadie also was preceded in death by her husband, Basil T. Baughn; brothers, John, Jessie, Elbert and Bud; sisters, Clara, Mamie, Margie and Lana; an infant son, an infant grandson, infant twin great-grandchildren and a special sister-in-law, Wilda Bragg. Sadie was the last surviving member of her family.

Sadie rode a passenger train to attend Montgomery High School.

Her first job was for the war effort at Triumph Explosives, Elkton, Md. Later she was a telegraph operator for the C&O Railroad at Prince and Thurmond.

Surviving: her daughter, JoAnn (Woody) Davis; son, Bill (Peg) Alexander; granddaughter, Carmen (Ric) Hayman; grandsons, Brian (Missy) David and Charles (Sandra) Alexander; great-granddaughters, Samantha Davis and Lily Hayman; great-grandsons, Jacob Hayman, Josh Alexander and Jacob Alexander; nieces, Rita Phillips, Diane Withrow and Penny Cummins; and Sadie’s beloved best friend, Queen Schoolfield.

Sadie’s wishes were not to have a public visitation and funeral. Family members and friends will meet privately for a “going home” celebration. Entombment will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Deborah Sue Harrah

Deborah Sue Harrah, 66, of Ansted, died Sept. 20, 2013, following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1947, in Ansted, daughter of the late Bart Bartrum and Betty June Waldrep Bartrum.

She was the head cook at Gino’s and was a homemaker.

Surviving: a daughter, Jennifer McHenry of Julian, N.C.; a son, Kevin Harrah of Mt. Hope; a brother, Benny Bartrum of Ansted; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harrah was cremated. A memorial service will be at a later date.

Betty Mae Stuppio Linkous

Betty Mae Stuppio Linkous, 76, of Scarbro, died Sept. 21, 2013, at her home.

Born Dec. 10, 1936, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Rosario and Rachel Sumner Stuppio. Her husband, Dennis Phillip Linkous; sister, JoAnn Grabosky; and brothers, Rosario Stuppio and Robert Stuppio, also preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving: children, Seldon Linkous and wife Amy, Jon Linkous and wife Lisa, Teresa Sykes and husband Matt and Tony Linkous; sister, Lula Cale; brother, James Stuppio; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with her wishes Mrs. Linkous was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hugh L. Lucas

Hugh L. Lucas, 74, of Oak Hill, died Sept. 23, 2013, after a long illness.

Born Oct. 10, 1938, in Alexandria, Minn., he was son of the late Clifford Charles Lucas and Sabina Clarissa Rhodes Lucas. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Lucas, Richard Lucas and James Lucas; and a sister, Harriet O’Neil.

Hugh attended Brigham Young University from 1956 to 1959 and graduated from Concord College in 1986.

He was a member of the U.S. Army Military Police Corps from 1961 to 1981 when he retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class. He was a police officer at the VA Hospital in Beckley from 1981 to 1993. He worked as a security officer for the Wackenhut Corp., with duty at Kingston Resources, from 1994 to 2003. At the onset of his illness, he worked at Kingston Resources, and attained the rank of captain, a position created solely for him and a first for the company.

He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and untiring desire to make us all laugh.

He was a loving father who loved the Lord and his family, who always put his wife and children’s needs and wants above his own. He has gone home to be with the Lord and will be greatly missed by all who love him.

Surviving: his loving wife of 46 years, Judith Ann Cook Lucas of Oak Hill; son, Mark L. Lucas and his wife, Hyun, of Winchester, Va.; daughters, Michelle D. Hylton and her husband, Keith “Sam,” of Oak Hill, Lisa D. Fields and her husband, Andrew, of Duffield, Va., and Shannon N. Burghduff and her husband, Jeremy, of Oak Hill; sisters, Phyllis Olson of Evansville, Minn., and Pauline Peerbloom of Bloomington, Minn.; a spiritual daughter and son, Minister Debbie and Lewis Allen of Mount Hope; and 11 awesome grandchildren who all loved him dearly.

Honoring Hugh’s wishes, his remains will be cremated. A private family memorial service will be held.

Vivian Doris Sprouse Nugen

Vivian Doris Sprouse Nugen, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Kingston, died Sept. 20, 2013, at her home.

Born July 7, 1930, at Hellier, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Arthur and Dixie Bartley Sprouse. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Nugen.

She was a retired sales clerk for NAPA Auto Parts.

Funeral services were Sept. 24, at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Dr. Charles Miller officiating. Entombment followed at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Jean Delores Vanover Sharp

Jean Delores Vanover Sharp, 79, of Oak Hill, died Sept. 17, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

Born May 24, 1934, at Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Russell M. Vanover and Pearl M. Potter Vanover Tercheck. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Ray Sharp; daughter, Gail S. Sharp; son, Gary A. Sharp Sr.; daughter-in-law, Teresa Y. Sharp; and grandson-in-law, Matt Jones.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Surviving: her children, Darrell R. Sharp of Minden, Bill R. Sharp, Michael E. Sharp and wife Sue, and Annetta L. Sharp, all of Oak Hill, Pearl R. Sharp-Baxter and fiancé Randy L. Brink of Berwick, Pa.; and Mona Cosby of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Angela M. Sharp of Minden; grandchildren, Rick Tercheck of Oak Hill, Tim Welch and fiancee Misty Odem of Louisiana, Jessie Welch of Charlotte, N.C., Linda Smith-Burnett and husband Rick of Charlotte, N.C., Gary A. Sharp Jr. and wife Debbie of Minden, A. Juanita Jones of Oak Hill, Tammy K. Spence of Nanticoke, Pa., Scottie D. Funeral services were Sept. 20 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Mike Kees officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Rhonda Gail Massey Walker

Rhonda Gail Massey Walker, 47, of Dothan, died Sept. 19, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born Feb. 2, 1966, at Norton, Va., she was the daughter of Claude and Anna Hillman Massey of Bradley.

Rhonda was a M.I.H.O.W. (Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker) program employee for 16 years, was a home visitor and prenatal care coordinator for New River Health Clinic at Whipple.

Surviving, in addition to her parents: her husband, Mark Steven Walker of Dothan; daughter, Cassandra Leiann Walker of Dothan; sons, Zachary Mason Walker and Cody Steven Walker, both of Dothan; and sisters, Brenda Allen and husband Buddy of Hico, Norma Massey of Mount Hope and Sharon Alderman and husband Kenny of Beaver.

Funeral services were Sept. 23 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
