Goldie Lodema Pittman Addison

Goldie Lodema Pittman Addison, 77, of Maple Fork, died Sept. 14, 2005, at her home. She was a lifelong resident of Maple Fork.

Born April 2, 1928, at Cirtsville, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Jenny Belle Davis Pittman. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Nora Maxine Lilly, and a grandson, Vernon Lilly.

Mrs. Addison was a sales clerk at Eddie’s Market in Bradley for 29 years. She was also a homemaker and a great wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of First Church of God at Carlisle, was on the TV Lanes Bowling League for many years and a member of the Pittman Sisters (Louise and Lodema) and also sang with The Barleys for many years.

Surviving: her husband, William S. Addison; daughters, Linda Gayle Poland and husband, John, and Brenda Kay Turner, all of Maple Fork; a son, William David Addison and wife, Brandy, of Maple Fork; brothers, Herman Pittman and wife, Irene, of Maple Fork, Carl Pittman Jr. and wife, Shirley, of Bradley, and Jack Benny Pittman and wife, Teresa, of Maple Fork; sisters, Lucille Hurd of Maple Fork, Louise Ellis of Cranberry and Lula Belle Legg of Oak Hill; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service was Sept. 17 at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Revs. Dianna Pittman, Robert Barley and Herman Pittman officiating. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Lana L. Conley, 69, of Winona, died Sept. 17, 2005, in the Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill following a long illness.

Mildred Grace “Gandy” Eichelberger, 91, of Malden, formerly of Mount Tabor, died Sept. 16, 2005, at home following a long illness.

Billie Foster

Billie Foster, 63, of Page, died on Sept. 16, 2005, at his home.

Born Dec. 5, 1941, at Kincaid, he was the son of the late Ezra and Norma Payne Foster.

Mr. Foster loved dogs.

Surviving: his wife, Patricia “Patty” Snyder.

Graveside rites and committal service, with arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, were Sept. 19 at the Payne Cemetery in Kincaid with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating.

Orpha Orlena Gill, 96, of Springdale, died Sept. 14, 2005, at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Carol Sue Nelson Hammond

Carol Sue Nelson Hammond, 73, of Orange Park, Fla., died Sept. 7, 2005.

Born July 27, 1932, at Dothan, she was the daughter of the late Herman Nelson and Belle Nelson Richmond.

Surviving: her children, Diane Hennagien of Mora Springs, Iowa, Michael Blair of West Palm Beach, Fla., Bob Blair of Hollywood, Fla., David Blair of Georgia, Irene Mazzucco of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Julie Blair of Homestead, Fla.; sisters, Nancy Summey and Dixie Arbogast, both of Canton, Ohio; brothers, Gary Nelson of Oak Hill and Norman Nelson of Clovis, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service was Sept. 9 at Moosehaven Chapel with the Rev. Helen Taylor officiating. Entombment followed in Moosehaven Mausoleum.

Wanda Canterbury Kurzyna

Wanda Canterbury Kurzyna, 78, of Oak Hill, died Sept, 15, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a short illness.

Born Jan. 26, 1927, at Page, she was the daughter of the late Maxie Ray and Cammie Wilson Canterbury.

Wanda was a devoted wife, loving mother and homemaker. She was a retired sales clerk for Noyes Men’s and Boys’ Store, Oak Hill, and had been a resident of Oak Hill for 57 years.

Surviving: her husband of 57 years, Charlie “Kazymier” Kurzyna; daughters, Karen McNulty and husband, Tom, of Huber Heights, Ohio, and Charyl Waugh of Spartanburg, S.C.; sons, Chuck Kurzyna and wife, Kathy, of Beckley, and John Kurzyna and wife, Ellen, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Ida Mae Dodd of Oak Hill, Mary Hisel of Pleasanton, Calif., Naomi Gwinn of Oak Hill, Iona Neely and husband, Charles, of Raleigh, N.C., and Hilda West of Ravenswood; grandchildren, Karrie Holleman and husband, Jerry, of Spartanburg, Marc McNaulty and Lynn McNaulty, both of Huber Heights, Kris Kurzyna and Charlie Kurzyna, both of Winston-Salem, Phillip Kurzyna and wife, Kristie, Bryan Kurzyna and Cammie Kurzyna, all of Fayetteville; numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends.

There will be no visitation.

Private service will be held at a later date.

Corba H. Pittman, 86, of Beckley, formerly of Woodbridge Road, Oak Hill, died Sept. 13, 2005.

Erma G. Backus Salgado Redondo

Erma G. Backus Salgado Redondo, 96, of Muskegon, Mich., formerly of Oak Hill, died Sept. 3, 2005, in Muskegon.

Born Jan. 1, 1909, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Letetia Lively Backus. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Clerance McGraw, Joseph Salgado and Delmiro D. Redondo; and brothers, Wilmer Backus and Eldred Backus.

Mrs. Redondo was a retired telephone operator for C&P; Telephone with 18 years of service.

Mrs. Redondo ran a rooming house for 24 years and was a restaurant owner in Oak Hill for several years.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside rites and committal service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with Minister Carl Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow.

Barbara Clark Smith

Barbara Clark Smith, 63, of Deepwater, died Sept. 13, 2005, at her home.

Born Feb. 23, 1942, at Lancaster, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Bud and Lucille McCall Clark.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

Surviving: sons, Randy Smith of Englewood, Ohio, James Smith of Portmouth, Ohio, and John Smith of Tyner, N.C.; and a daughter, Lori Smith of Deepwater.

Mrs. Smith was cremated. A memorial service will be held in Ohio.

Deborah Miller Suggs of Douglasville, Ga., died Sept. 15, 2005, at the age of 50.

Born Nov. 17, 1954, in Mount Hope, she was the daughter of Margaret Karnes Hurd and the late Douglas Paul Hurd.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, Margaret Hurd Crawford, and stepfather, William T. Crawford of Scarbro; her husband, Glenn Suggs of Douglasville, Ga.; daughters, Wendy Shorter and fiance, Michael Hicks, and Ginger Nicholas and husband, Jason, all of Salisbury, N.C., Michelle Miller of Douglasville; sons, Jason VanBuren and wife, Angel, of Kannapolis, N.C., and David Miller and his father, Steven D. Miller, of Covington, Ga.; grandchildren, Kristin Brown of Austin, Texas, Chelsey Brown, Brianna Nicholas, Hunter Nicholas, Austin Nicholas, all of Salisbury, N.C., and Kayla VanBuren and Dalton VanBuren, both of Kannapolis, N.C.; a sister, Erma Hooper of Mt. Crawford, Va.; brothers, Raymond Hurd of Navarre, Fla. and Douglas Paul Hurd Jr. of Hyattsville, Md.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Debbie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Service was Sept. 20 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
