Ted R. Bailey Jr.
Ted R. Bailey Jr., 76, of Oak Hill, died June 19, 2009, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Born March 8, 1933, in Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Theodore R. Sr. and Lois Ashley Bailey. He alsowas preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Burns Bailey, and by brothers, Robert Bailey Sr., and Jimmy Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was a TV repairman, having worked for National TV and Appliance.
Surviving: his son, Theodore R. Bailey III of Oak Hill; his daughter, Tonia Lynn Pennington of Middletown, Del.; and grandchildren, Madalyn Faye Pennington and Alexis Jo Pennington, both of Middletown, Del.
Funeral services were June 23 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with the Rev. William Skeldon officiating. Entombment followed in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Wallace ‘Cabby’ R. Bennett Jr.
Wallace “Cabby” R. Bennett Jr., 59, of Oak Hill, died June 25, 2009, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Weston.
Born Oct. 10, 1949, at Oak Hill, he was the son of Mable Marie Dixon Bennett of Oak Hill and the late Wallace R. Bennett Sr. A brother, Barry Bennett, also preceded him in death.
He was a master appraiser for the U.S. Department of Interior-National Park Service.
Cabby attended the First Presbyterian Church in Oak Hill and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Surviving, in addition to his mother: his wife, Anna (Bennett) Bennett; a son, Wallace “Ross” Bennett III and wife Dr. Crystal Bennett of Oak Hill; a daughter, Beth Bennett Powers and husband Roger Powers Jr. of Edmond; a sister, Janice Bennett of Oak Hill; half-sisters, Joan McClain of Charlotte, N.C., and Connie Ellison of Erie, Pa.; a half-brother, Robert “Bobby” Blackburn and wife Loretta of Fayetteville; and grandchildren, Bryson Powers, Grace Bennett and Abby Bennett.
Services were June 29 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Allen Travis officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Virginia Faye “Jenny” Woolwine Lee Coleman, 81, of Scarbro , died June 29, 2009 at her home at 11:41 a.m.
Born Feb. 3, 1928, at Pax, she was the daughter of the late Lowe Woolwine and the late Chessie Woolwine Ellison (James) of Mt. Hope. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Lee of Marmet; second husband, Ray Coleman of Mossy; and brothers, Eugene Woolwine, Junior Woolwine, Lloyd Ellison, and James David Ellison, all of Mt. Hope.
Jenny was a homemaker and was a member of the Cranberry Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughters, Linda Lee Sheehan and Charmaine Coleman Davis; son, Ronnie Coleman; brothers, Lee Roy Ellison and wife Bobbie of Princeton; Jerry Ellison and wife Charlotte of Beckley, Mack Ellison and wife Dorothy of Maple Fork, and George Ellison and friend Terri of Mt. Callie Susan Crawford, 81, of Oak Hill, died peacefully in her sleep at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on June 19, 2009.
Born April 26, 1928, at Ronceverte, she was the daughter of the late Johnny A. and Ethel Agnes Morgan Wiekle. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dale Crawford; by a son, Hiskle Crawford; by a brother, Paul Harmon; and by a sister, Nellie Koontz.
Callie was a homemaker and formerly attended the Church of God of Prophecy.

Erma Louise Pittman Ellis
Erma Louise Pittman Ellis died June 24, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 16, 1925, at Willis Branch, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Virginia Belle Davis Pittman. Her husband, Carl E. Ellis; sister, Lodema Addison; and a brother, Herbert Pittman, also preceded her in death.
She made her home at Cranberry for nearly 60 years. She was known in Raleigh and surrounding counties for her music ministry on WOAY TV and Radio and was part of the Skelton Trio. Louise sang with the trio and individually at more than 2,000 funerals over a span of 50 years. She lovingly shared her music to comfort families during their time of sorrow.
Louise enjoyed playing her guitar and working in her yard and garden.
Surviving: her son, Wayne Ellis and wife Helena of Beaver; daughter, Patricia Jean McKinney and husband Marvin of Hickory, N.C.; grandchildren, Angela Gragg, and husband Jon of Hudson, N.C., Meghan Houck and husband Chris of Beckley, Rebecca Sigmon and husband Clay of Newton and Lindsay Ellis of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Jake Gragg of Hudson, N.C., and Wyatt Sigmon of Newton, N.C.; brothers, Herman Pittman and wife Irene of Maple Fork, Carl Pittman Jr. and wife Shirley of Bradley, and Jack Benny Pittman and wife Teresa of Maple Fork; sisters, Lucille Hurd of Maple Fork and Patsy Legg of Beckley; and a brother-in-law, William “Junior” Addison of Maple Fork.

Richard Farrell
Richard Wayne “Ricky” Farrell, 51, of Fayetteville, died after a short illness in Charlottesville, Va., on June 25, 2009.
Born Feb. 4, 1958, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Robert Vernon and Alice Faye Moore Farrell. He also was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Eleanor Farrell, and maternal grandparents, Bernard and Alma Dearstine.
Mr. Farrell was of the Baptist faith. He was a carpenter by trade.
Ricky was a loving man who had a deep passion for family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, favorite teams being the Washington Redskins and Fayetteville Pirates. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving: his loving wife, Patsy of Fayetteville; children, Alice Dehart and spouse Paul of Fayetteville, Samantha Johnson and spouse Bob of Fayetteville, Amanda Sharp and spouse Dale of Kincaid, Ricky Farrell II and companion Lauren Harper of Fayetteville, Vernon and Troy Farrell at home; sisters, Brenda Pierson and companion Bub Gill of Oak Hill, Cindy Proskin of Fayetteville, Sherry Trofy of Fayetteville, and Pam Farrell and companion Bobby Hobbs of Fayetteville; a special uncle and aunt, Bubby and Mary Moore of Ansted; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 34 nephews; and 23 nieces.

Rose Ann Barton Hess
Rose Ann Barton Hess, 90, of Palmetto, Fla., died June 18, 2009.
Born in Graydon, she moved to Bradenton in 1955 from Ansted. She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Howard A. Hess; her parents, Richard and Mary Barton; and 11 siblings.
Rose was employed by F.W. Woolworth & Co. for 30 years, both at the downtown location, where she was known as “Miss Rose” the cosmetics lady, and at the Westgate location.
She was a charter member and strong spiritual leader at Palm View First Baptist Church in Palmetto since 1955. Her activities at church included choir member, Sunday School Committee, Budget Committee, Nominating Committee, Outreach Mission, Women’s Missionary Union and Vacation Bible School.
She was an assistant leader for Girl Scouts of America and Brownie Scout Troop 273 of Palmetto. Rose also was cookie coordinator for the North River Cookie Drive of the Girl Scouts.
Surviving: her sons, Howard “Eugene” Hess (Martha) of Marietta, Ga., and Dexter G. Hess (Carol) of Palmetto, Fla.; daughter, Sue Hess-Fox (Tracy) of Alexandria, Va.; granddaughters, Ashley Williams (Matt) of Overland Park, Kan., and Tonya R. Fox of Alexandria, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Drew Will-iams and Caroline Williams.
Service was June 23 at Palm View First Baptist Church with burial at Palmetto Cemetery.

Bonnie Mae Horsfall
Bonnie Mae Horsfall, 84, of Palatka, Fla., formerly of Rainelle, died June 18, 2009, in the Putnam Community Medical Center following a long illness.
Born April 30, 1925, at Springdale, she was the daughter of the late Everman Light Brown and Sarah Susan Cox Patterson. She also was preceded in death by six brothers, Lawson, John, Lacy, Jonah (Joe), Crandall (Cricket) and David Patterson; and four sisters, Martha Crowder, Ethel Spade, Sylvia Gwinn and Mary Jessie Jones.
Mrs. Horsfall was a bookkeeper with Hudson Pulp and Paper and Georgia Pacific until she retired. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving: her sister, Dessell Puckett, of Rainelle; sisters-in law, Opal Patterson and Louella Patterson, both of Springdale, and Dorothy Patterson, of Meadow Bridge; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services were June 25 at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Don Bean officiating. Burial followed in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery in Clintonville.

Nancy Marie Keil
Nancy Marie Keil, 40, of Oak Hill, died June 24, 2009, at Plateau Medical Center.
Born July 16, 1968, at Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of Nancy Scheuring Keil of Oak Hill and the late William Keil, who preceded her in death on June 26, 2005. She also was preceded in death by her her maternal grandmother and grandfather, Mary Rothert Scheuring and Jerome Scheuring of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and paternal grandmother and grandfather, Marie Rausch Keil and William Keil, also of Pittsburgh.
Nancy was a 1986 graduate of Oak Hill High School and a graduate of Valley College. She was previously employed as a nanny for Chris and Jerod Kaplan; was a waitress at Pizza Plus in the Crossroads Mall; and was employed by The Register-Herald, where she was a customer service representative for eight years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, working puzzles, doing crafts such as latch hook and cross stitch, shooting pool and spending time with family and friends. She was a loving daughter, wife, and friend.
Surviving, in addition to her mother: her husband, Roger McComas of Oak Hill; her brother, William J. Keil and his wife, Gail, of Maryland; a niece and nephew, Ester Keil and Benjamin Keil of Maryland; aunt and godmother, Kathy Chiocca of Gainesville, Fla.; aunt, Theresa Belcher and her husband, Don, of Conyers, Ga.; special friends, Bert and Helen Kidd, and their children, of Crab Orchard; lots of relatives in Pittsburgh; and many loving friends at Beckley Newspapers.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Richard Keith Mills, 66, of Beckley, formerly of Fayette County, died Sept. 2, 2008.

Thelma “Lucille” Rookstool, 86, of Oak Hill, died June 22, 2009, at Hidden Valley Nursing Home.
Born March 2, 1923, in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late William E. Hastings and Annabelle Hastings. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Rookstool; and by a stepson, five brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Rookstool was a homemaker and a member of the old Lochgelly Baptist Church.
Surviving: her daughters, Shirley Reed and husband Roger of Oak Hill, Bonnie Mitchell and husband Norman of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Gloria Lindig and husband Loren of Coshocton, Ohio; sons, Bill Rookstool and wife Wanette of Fayetteville, and Ernest “Tom” Thompson and his wife, Karen, of Nipomo, Calif.; a sister, Blanche Johnson and husband Ray of Cocoa, Fla.; very special friends, Rudy and Joy Painter; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Donna Lee Shea
Donna Lee Shea, 55, of Beckley, died June 19, 2009, at the Holtzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio, following a long illness.
Born June 10, 1954, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of Pauline Jarrett Workman of Artie, and the late Robert Lee Workman.
Donna was a homemaker, and a member of the Ewing Creek Church.
Surviving, in addition to her mother: a son, Robbie Workman and his wife, Dawna Workman, of Glen Daniel; grandchildren, Tyler, Eric, and Cole; brothers, Larry Workman of Clear Creek, and his wife, Kathy, and Lonnie Workman and wife Candy of Fayetteville; sisters, Deanna Sizow and husband Michael of Virginia Beach, Va., and Dina Baggett and husband Daniel of Beckley; and several nieces and nephews.

Doran Jefferson Stover
Doran Jefferson Stover, 79, of Workman’s Creek, died June 27, 2009, at McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
Born Aug. 13, 1929, at Clear Creek, he was the son of the late Clina and Ina Toney Stover. A sister, Nannie Terry, and five brothers, Maben, Rondie, Ray, Jackie and Quincy, also preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Stover served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne Division and also the 6th Infantry Regiment. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany.
He enjoyed gardening and sharing stories with his family and friends.
Surviving: a brother, Warren Stover and wife Gladys; sisters-in-law, Elvis Stover, Josie Stover and Patricia Stover; and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Services were July 1 at the Workman’s Creek Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Tyree officiating. Burial was at Workman’s Creek Cemetery at Workman’s Creek.

Eric Paul Stover
Eric Paul Stover, 50, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Maple Fork, died June 27, 2009, at his home.
Born July 8, 1958, at Beckley, he was the son of Lovell A. Williams Stover of Maple Fork and the late Lacy B. Stover. A nephew, Logan Seth Ward, also preceded him in death.
He was a security guard for Searay Boat Company of Knoxville.
Mr. Stover was a member of the Bradley Presbyterian Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Surviving, in addition to his mother: brothers, Lacy Byron Stover and wife Donna of Maple Fork and Alan Gene Stover and wife Wanda of Knoxville; sister, Rose Mary Ward and husband Issac of Maple Fork; four nephews; five nieces; and a special friend, Thomas Noe.

Oscar Phelix Tennant
Oscar Phelix Tennant, 93, of Oak Hill, died June 24, 2009, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born Oct.22, 1915, at Prince, he was the son of the late John A. and Sarah Beasley Tennant and stepson of the late Dotsie Hobbs Tennant. His wife of 67 years, Ethel Geneva Rodes Tennant; daughter, Betty Jean Bishop; son, Larry A. Tennant; brother, John W. Tennant; and a grandson, John L. Tennant II, also preceded him in death.
He was a retired engineer for N&W; Railroad, and he worked at Mullens.
Mr. Tennant was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church, where he attended the Donnelly Bible Class. He was the sole surviving member of the Oak Hill High School Class of 1936.
Surviving: a son, John Tennant and companion Dee Jones of Hayward, Calif.; a grandson, Terry Bishop and wife Lisa; granddaughters, Debbie Miller and Lisa Tennant Wamsley and husband Steve; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and close friend and caregiver, Daisy Shrout.
Services were June 27 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with the Rev. David Sneed officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill.

Robert ‘Ike’ Tincher
Robert “Ike” Tincher, 72, died June 13, 2009, at the Hospice House in Greenwood, S.C.
Born in Ohley in 1937, Ike was the son of the late Ethel and Gentry Tincher. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Malta, and brothers, Butch and Jimmy Tincher.
Ike grew up in Jodie and was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from the Reelco Plant in Abbeville, S.C., and was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Greenwood, S.C.
Surviving: son, Robert Mitchell Tincher of Louisville, Ky.; two grandsons; brother, Duke Tincher of Ohio; and sister, Delores Lively of Fayetteville.
Funeral service was June 16 at Harris Funeral Home, Abbeville, S.C. Burial with military honors followed in Melrose Cemetery.
John William Walters
John William Walters, 82, of Corliss, died June 29, 2009, at Heartland of Rainelle, following a short illness.
Born April 26, 1927, at Corliss, he was the son of the late Kyle and Lula Harris Walters. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ann Gibson Walters, in 2002; a son, Robert Walters; a great-grandson, Tyler Ramsey; a brother, Harliss Walters; and sisters, Margie Carte and Nancy Jones.
Mr. Walters was a member of Minnie Belle Baptist Church of Corliss, and had worked as a lumber stacker at several area sawmills. One of his greatest joys in life each year was raising big gardens that he shared with the community.
Surviving: a daughter, Patricia Terry and husband Frank of Danese; sons, Charles Walters and wife Janice of Morristown, Tenn., John Jr. Walters and wife Tiny of Orient Hill, and Kevin Walters and wife Heather of Meadow Bridge; a brother, Arvel Walters of Rainelle; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Gene Lloyd Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in John W. Rider Memorial Cemetery at Corliss.

Verna Mae Settle Wickline
Verna Mae Settle Wickline, 74, of Wriston, died June 25, 2009, at her home.
Born March 23, 1935, at Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Merle Pennington Settle. Her husband, Charles R. Wickline, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Wickline was a homemaker.
Surviving: a daughter, Jeannie Blevins of Wriston; sons, Steve Wickline of Daniels and Russell Wickline of Huntington; grandchildren, Kim Higginbotham of Edmond, Sherry Wickline of Leesburg, Va., Charles Wickline of Locust Grove, Va., Tracy Wilson of Fayetteville and Shane Wickline of Wriston; and great-grandchildren, Felicity Kees of Ranson, Allison Wilson and Lilly Wilson, both of Fayetteville, and Kayla Higginbotham of Edmond.
Mrs. Wickline was cremated. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 4, at her residence in Wriston, beginning at 2 p.m.
