Dalma Barber

Dalma Weese McMillion Barber, 87, of Gauley Bridge, died Aug. 13, 2013, after a long illness surrounded by her loved ones.

 Born May 3, 1926, she was the daughter of Bertha Weese. She also was preceded in death by four brothers; her first husband, Eugene McMillion; her second husband, Tom Barber; and daughters, Sandra K. Tryon and Susan F. Roop.

She was a member and lay speaker of Gauley Bridge United Methodist Church since 1960.

Surviving: her daughters, Ella Asbury and husband Walter of Gauley Bridge, Cheryl Cobb and husband Thomas of Page, Linda Creel and husband Dana of Teays Valley; son, Eugene F. McMillion and wife Brenda of Gauley Bridge; brother, Larry Weese and wife Brenda of Ripley; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

 Funeral service was Aug. 16 at Glen Ferris Apostolic Church with Rev. David Bounds and Rev. Mark Skaggs officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Howard A. Bowles

Howard A. Bowles, 69, of Lockbridge Road, Meadow Bridge, died Aug. 13, 2013, at his home, following a short illness.

Born Nov. 5, 1943, in Orangeburg, S.C., he was the son of the late Howard F. and Grace E. Felkel Bowles. He also was preceded in death by a son, Jeremy Bowles, and two grandsons, Thomas and Timothy Brasch.

Howard was a member of the Thorny Point Tabernacle at Lockbridge, and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Vietnam.

He was retired from General Motors of Lordstown, Ohio.

Surviving: a daughter, Stephanie Gwinn (James) of Meadow Bridge; sons,  Wesley Bowles (fiancée Brittany) and Justin Bowles, all of Meadow Bridge; a sister, Rhoda Gwinn of Meadow Bridge; brothers, Franklin Bowles of Talcott and Paul Bowles of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and granddaughters, Tara, Tonya, Tanasha and Maddison.

Services were Aug. 19 at the Thorny Point Tabernacle, Lockbridge Road, with Pastor Franklin Bowles officiating. Burial was in the Bowles Cemetery on Lockbridge Road, Meadow Bridge.
