Ida Pearl Sevy

Ida Pearl Sevy, 84, of Hico, died Nov. 2, 2013, at Ansted Center, following a long illness.

Born May 13, 1929, in Hico, Ida was the daughter of the late Roscoe Lee Sevy and Sadie Margaret Terry Sevy. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Sevy Simmons; brothers, Harold and Herbert Sevy; sister-in-law, Georgia Sevy; nephew, Edward Sevy; niece, Susan Sevy Barbe; and great-nephew, Robert Bryson Wilson.

She was born and raised on Stringtown Road in Hico.

Ida earned her teaching degree at West Virginia University in Morgantown and Concord College in Athens. Ida taught at Layland and Winona; she was an English teacher at Nuttall High School, Lookout and Midland Trail High School, Hico, for a number of years before retiring.

Ida was a faithful member of Sunday Road Baptist Church of Hico.

Surviving: a brother, William Roscoe Sevy and his wife, Sharon Neal Sevy, of Ansted; sister-in-law, Eugenia McGraw Sevy of Beckley; nieces, Tamara Sevy Deligne and Terry Sevy Wilson; nephews, Michael and David Simmons; and great-nieces, great-nephews and their children.

Funeral services were Nov. 5 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted with Rev. David Snead officiating. Burial followed at the End of the Trail Cemetery at Clintonville.

Jimmie C. Souder

Jimmie C. Souder, 78, of Oak Hill, died Nov. 4, 2013, following a short illness.

Born in Mabscott on Sept. 9, 1935, he was the son of the late Hallie and Easter Souder. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Phyllis and Linda.

Jimmie was a retired coal miner from Siltex Mine in Mount Hope.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Korean War.

He was a member of the NRA, the United States Bowling Congress, attended North Sand Branch Worship Center. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving: his beloved wife of 54 years, Verna Souder; sons, Timothy Souder and wife Jackie of Seneca, S.C., and Pastor Ken Souder and wife Sandra of Prosperity; daughter, Terri Souder of Oak Hill; and grandsons, Ryan Souder of Columbus, Ohio and Jared Souder of Oak Hill.

Service will be 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, at High Lawn Funeral Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Mickey Mitchell and Pastor Ken Souder officiating. Burial will follow Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
