Helen Athelene Walker Parker

Helen Athelene Walker Parker, 59, of Glen Jean, died April 29, 2014, at her home.

Born Oct. 20, 1954, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Shirley and Mildred Marie Cox Walker. A brother, Shirley James Cox, also preceded her in death.

Helen was a former hairdresser and a home care provider, having owned Helen’s Home Care. 

She was an active member of the Mount Hope First Assembly of God where she was president of Women’s Ministries.

A 1973 graduate of Fayetteville High School, she also graduated from the Beckley Beauty Academy.

Surviving: her husband, Jessie O. Parker; daughter, Tiffany Cottle and husband James of Sun; sons, Jessie Parker Jr. and wife Norma Kay of Pliney and Jimmy Patrick Parker and wife Lesie Nicole of Ceredo; brother, Alfred Houston “Pete” Cox and wife Jo Ann of Oak Hill; sisters, Iris Cox Poole Fortner of Oak Hill, Diana Sue Cox Walker of Mount Hope and Eunice Carroll Totten of Sun; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at Mount Hope First Assembly of God with Pastor Jessie Parker and Rev. Joan Terry officiating. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.

Visitation will be held at Mount Hope First Assembly of God on Friday, May 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Margaret L. Queen

Margaret L. Queen, 88, of Danese,died April 20, 2014, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, following a long illness.

Born Jan. 3, 1926, at Sewell, she was the daughter of the late Lewis A. and Mary E. Atkins Rowe. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Queen; a daughter, Vivian J. Liptok; and six brothers and five sisters.

Surviving: daughter, Deborah E. Smith of Oak Hill; sons, Timothy W. Queen of Danese, Terry D. Queen of Rainelle, Mark A. Queen of Page and William (Bengie) A. Queen of Danese; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

At her request, there was no visitation. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
