Six months before his retirement after 20 years of service, Lt. Col. William Dameworth Jr. gave this summary of his career: “Senior Master Sergeant Lively was handpicked for assignment to the Division staff because of exceptional ability in both operations and administration. This ability, plus tact and initiative, enabled him to excel at Division level. As a result of numerous staff visits to the assigned tactical wings, he has contributed greatly to the efficiency of their operation. In this respect, I sincerely believe he was instrumental in causing the tactical wings to achieve outstanding ratings on their last three operational readiness inspections. He developed numerous briefing charts to keep the Division Commander and staff abreast of the progress and standings of assigned units. He designed and maintained a combat crew book that permits evaluation at a glance of each air and missile crew in the Division. Senior Master Sergeant Lively personally maintained the Top Secret account and, at last inventory, it was in flawless order. He was assigned numerous special projects which were invariably completed on schedule in a professional manner. He was particularly helpful in preparing the Great Effort exercise of the 310 Strategic Aerospace Wing, an exercise umpired by the Division to evaluate unit capability to perform their EWO while under attack. I have given Senior Master Sergeant Lively the highest rating possible. I am convinced that his ability and performance are truly worthy of this outstanding rating.”
Tracy retired Feb. 1, 1964, at the highest possible rank an airman could achieve: Senior Master Sergeant. He then had his own home remodeling and repair business for 32 years.
