Ethel May Bays

Ethel May Bays, 79, formerly of Ramsey, died Sept. 24, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, while surrounded by a loving family.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Robert Dale Bays and Herschel Franklin Bays.

Previously employed at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, her interests included gardening, quilting and cooking.

Ethel May Bays was a true role model in love and compassion to not only her family but in her willingness to give whatever she had to those less fortunate.

She will always be remembered as a deeply devoted wife, mother and grandmother who openly professed her love of Jesus Christ and taught her children Biblical values at a very early age.

She dedicated many years of her life as a caregiver to several people in the area as well as to her mother, Lucy Skaggs, who passed away at age 79.

Surviving: her loving husband, Robert Bays; sister, Francis Stanley of Ansted; brothers, Frank Skaggs of Oregon, Wayne Skaggs of New Mexico, and Delmas Skaggs of North Carolina; children, Karol Haynes and husband Charles of Oak Hill, Helen Whited and husband David of Beckley, Marcelle Cole and her husband Darrell, and David Bays and wife Brenda, all of Victor, Leland Bays and his wife, Joann, of Burlington, N.C., and Jody Hornsby and husband Gary, and Kathy Bragg and husband Ken, all of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and her pet dog, Sneakers.

Service will be conducted at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted, with Pastor Morris Nutter officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery at Nallen.

Friends may call from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
