Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Ann Sibray Howard

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Sibray Howard, 86, of Mount Hope, died Sept. 20, 2012, at her home.

Born Nov. 27, 1925, at Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Donald L. and Dorothy Irene Schaub Sibray. Three brothers, Bill Sibray, John Sibray, and Richard Sibray, and a sister, Caroline Probst, also preceded her in death.

She graduated from Rivesville High School in Fairmont where she was salutatorian of her class and a graduate of West Virginia University.

Mrs. Howard was a Fayette County school teacher, having retired from Mount Hope Middle School.

Mrs. Howard was a member of the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church where she loved to sing in the choir. She was a member of the Mount Hope Federated League, Fayette Study Club, Delta Gamma Sorority at WVU and was an avid bridge player.

Surviving: her husband, of 64 years, Thomas W. “Tom” Howard; daughter, Linda Howard Brown and husband Steve of Mount Hope; sons, Dr. Thomas W. Howard II and wife Jan of Hurricane, and Charles Howard and wife Lorna Waddell of Morgantown; grandchildren, Dr. Thomas W. Howard III, Dr. Alex Howard, Grant Howard, William Brett Brown, Will Howard, and Charley Howard; brothers, James Sibray of Beckley and Tom Sibray of Valparaiso, Ind.; and sisters, DeeDee Zotcavage of Millersville, Md., and Phronsie Blankenship of Virginia.

Funeral services were Sept. 23 at the Mount Hope Presbyterian Church with Pastor Beth Stone officiating. Entombment was at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Oak Hill.

Mary Louise Clay Johnson

Mary Louise Clay Johnson, 71, of Oak Hill, died Sept. 21, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington.

Born Nov. 3, 1940, at Surveyor, she was the daughter of the late Pierce and Elsie Clay. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Catherine Johnson Small; brothers, Eulice and Harry Clay; and a sister, Edith Shrewsbury.

She was a homemaker, a member of Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene and a former member of the Goldeneers of the church.

Surviving: her husband, Johnny N. Johnson of Oak Hill; son, Michael Dale Johnson and wife Joann of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Stacy Beth Small of Maple Fork and Melissa Johnson Shirley and husband Billy of Beckley; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Catherine Smallwood and Hadley Grace of Maple Fork, and due in November – Max Shirley soon to be of Beckley; sisters, Hazeltine Daniel and Ruth Kincaid, both of Iaeger; along with 19 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Sept. 25 at Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with the Reverends Jerry Bush and David Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
