Arthur Lee “Bill” Banks, 81, of Fayetteville, died Dec. 18, 2009, at the Beckley VA Medical Center.

Josephine A. Cameron
Josephine A. Cameron, 92, of Ansted, died Dec. 17, 2009, at a Beckley hospital, following a short illness.
Born April 2, 1917, in Ansted, she was a daughter of the late James and Minnie Neal Pridemore. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Deward E. Cameron, in 1980; son, Ernest (Sonny) Cameron; daughter-in-law, Rose Hatcher Cameron; sons, Bobby Lee Cameron and Clarence (Ray) Cameron; and a daughter-in-law, Trudy Ruloff Cameron (wife of Duke).
Josephine was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving: daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Teddy Hatcher of Ansted, Judy and Robert Bohn of Victor, Diane Champion and Vickie Cameron of Ansted; daughter-in-law, Patricia Cameron, wife of Bobby, of Oak Hill; sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Kay Cameron of Ansted, Deward (Duke Cameron) of Victor, John (Dan) and Beverly Cameron of Ansted; 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Dec. 21 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Mark Skaggs and Charlie Webb officiating. Burial followed in Restlawn Memory Gardens in Victor.

Kenneth Ray Carson
Kenneth Ray Carson, 74, of Gauley Bridge, died Dec. 20, 2009, at home.
Born Aug. 31, 1935, in Gauley Bridge, he was a son of the late James Franklin and Carol Viola Kincaid Carson. He also was preceded in death by his brother, James Carrol Carson.
Mr. Carson was a retired teacher, principal, associate superintendent and superintendent for Fayette County schools with more than 44 years of service. He was the president of the Association of Business Leaders of America and served on the board of directors.
He was a member and deacon of Gauley Bridge Baptist Church, a member of the Gauley Bridge Masonic Lodge 64 AF&AM;, and a former member of the Gauley Bridge Lions Club.
Surviving: his wife, Janet Ramsey Carson of Gauley Bridge; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Lynn and Royal L. Casto Jr.; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jerry Atkins of Charlton Heights; grandson, Tyler Clay; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 26 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Craig Gee officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Delphia Lenora Dummitt
Delphia Lenora Dummitt, 89, of Fayetteville, died Dec. 22, 2009, at home.
Born Dec. 18, 1920, at Clifty, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Leno Kesler Dummitt. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Dummitt; and sisters, Mary Ellen Nicolet and Sandy Broach.
Ms. Dummitt was a member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, Fayette County Historical Society, Study Club, and Garden Club. She was a retired executive secretary for TRW.
Surviving: brother, Shad Dummitt of Fayetteville; sisters, Georgia Wallace and Betty Dummitt, both of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Dec. 26 at the Huse Memorial Park Mausoleum, Fayetteville, with Rev. Jim Dempsey officiating. Traditional burial followed services.

Lewis ‘Ed’ Edward Hall
Lewis “Ed” Edward Hall, 85, of Oak Hill, died Dec. 27, 2009, at his home.
Born May 31, 1924, at Burnwell, he was the son of the late Fred and Effie Kitchen Hall. A son, Ronnie Edward Hall; brothers, Ernest Hall, Howard Hall and Carl Hall; and sisters, Eloise Wade, Freida Epoch and Thelma Epling, also preceded him in death.
Ed was a retired coal miner, having worked for Imperial Colliery at Burnwell.
He was a member of the UMWA and World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving: his wife, Emmelene Holdren Hall; son, Michael Hall of Oak Hill; daughters, Paula Blevins of Oak Hill and Barbara Smith of Charles Town; sister, Gwendolyn Kees of Oak Hill; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were Dec. 30 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Ralph Shupe officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Opal Irene Johnson
Opal Irene Johnson, 80, of Layland, died Dec. 21, 2009, at her home following a sudden illness.
Born Dec. 5, 1929, in Pocahantas County, she was the daughter of the late Willard Henderson and Grace Mullins Buchanan. She also was preceded in death by sisters, Narcie Stull, Orva Flint and Sarah Gilkerson; and brothers, Donald and John Lincoln Buchanan.
Opal was a former member of the Layland Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Surviving: daughter, Narcia Johnson Bragg of Layland; sons, William “Bill” Johnson of Layland and Willard Johnson of Delaware; sister, Reba Bragg of Lanark; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services, followed immediately by burial, was Dec. 27 at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville, with Rev. James Bragg officiating.

Lonnie C. Keller
Lonnie C. Keller, 68, of Fayette Heights, died Dec. 22, 2009, at his home.
Born June 15, 1941, at Handley, he was the son of the late Spencer and Amanda Eggers Keller. He also was preceded in death by a son, Brett Allen Keller, in 1966; a brother, William Keller; and a sister, Helen Stafford.
Mr. Keller was a machinist for coal and other industries and was a member of the International Association of Mechanists.
Surviving: son, Jerry Keller and wife Sheila of Daniels; daughter, Delores Boyd of Chesapeake; his former wife, Linda Keller of Tennessee; former son-in-law, Curtis Boyd Jr. of Kimberly; sisters, Shirley McClure and husband Larry of East Bank and Dottie Tuffs of East Bank; and grandchildren, Jonathan Charles Keller, Tasha Boyd and James “J.D.” Boyd.
Mr. Keller was cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

Eula Mae King
Eula Mae King, of Ansted, died Dec. 28, 2009, at Summersville Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Eula was the daughter of the late Bert and Nellie Casto McClung of Greenbrier County. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Ray King, in 1989, and a son, Ray King, in 1983.
She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses of Hico, and a homemaker.
Eula had worked as a cook and clerk for many years at various places in the Hico and Ansted areas.
Surviving: daughters, Carole Vaughan of Elmira, and Karla Jones of Summersville; sons, Clyde King of Victor and Allen King of Hico; sisters, Alice of Ansted and Nora of Ohio; brothers, Virgil of Clay, James of Ohio, Paul of Ansted and Danny of Ramsey; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were Dec. 29 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Ansted, with Minister Thomas McClung officiating. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Larry E. ‘Bucky’ Meredith
Larry E. “Bucky” Meredith, 58, of Pax, died Dec. 24, 2009, at the VAMC in Beckley after a long illness.
Born Oct. 22, 1951, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late William Russell and Rachel Williams Meredith. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Canterbury Holstein Meredith, on May 8, 2009, and by a brother, Jimmy Meredith.
Bucky was the owner of Buck Stop Store in Pax for over 25 years and a veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving: stepson, Wesley Holstein and wife Shirley of Grafton, Ohio; stepdaughter, Kim Holstein Downing of Pax; grandchildren, Gina Kincaid of Pax, Jason (Katie) and Brandson Holstein of Grafton, Ohio, and Chet and Tyler Downing of Pax; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ludwick and Parker Kincaid, both of Pax; brothers, William Henry Meredith and wife Barbara and Tommy Joe Meredith and wife Debbie, all of Pax, Chester Meredith and wife Glyda of Greensboro, N.C., and Clarence Meredith and wife Susanne of Newnan, Ga.; and sisters, Rose Mary Painter and Ann Thomas, both of Pax.
Funeral services were Dec. 28 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Hope, with Rev. Doug Holley officiating. Burial followed in Pax Community Cemetery at Pax.

Virginia K. Petry, 93, of Swiss, died Dec. 23, 2009, at CAMC Memorial Division.
Born Nov. 25, 1916, in Prince, she was the daughter of the late John Kenna and Lula Schoolcraft Willard.
Mrs. Petry was a member of the Swiss Missionary Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Dennis Redden
Dennis Redden, 59, of Meadow Bridge, died Dec. 22, 2009, at his home on Winding Creek Road, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 29, 1950, in Claypool, he was the son of the late Rodney Harrison and Zella Marie Kaylor Redden.
He was a carpenter in the home construction business and had also worked as a mechanic and a timberman. He enjoyed deer hunting.
Surviving: his companion, Theresa Redden; stepfather, James Rodgers of Meadow Bridge; a daughter, Crystal Coleman of Rainelle; stepdaughters, Shannon Derringer of Oak Hill, Lynn of Rainelle, and Patricia Guilliams of Quinwood; sons, Rodney Redden of Rainelle and Shaun Redden of Oak Hill; a stepson, James Redden of Springdale; sisters, Carol Adkins of Springdale, Barbara Adkins of Meadow Bridge and Joyce Smith of Meadow Bridge; a brother, Louis Redden of Hinton; 10 grandchildren; a special niece, Jennifer Rodgers of Meadow Bridge; and several other nieces and nephews.
Services were Dec. 27 at the McRoss Baptist Church with Pastor Bennie Kenney officiating.
The body was cremated.

Marjorie H. Richmond
Marjorie H. Richmond, 91, of Charleston, formerly of Thurmond, died Dec. 19, 2009, at home.
Born May 31, 1918, in Lookout, she was the daughter of the late Newton W. and Rosa M. (Hinkle) Higginbotham. She also was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everette; brothers, Arnett, Herbert, Billie, and Houston Ray; and sisters, Mary, Marie, and Gladys Carol.
She grew up in Winona and lived for many years in Thurmond, two places she dearly loved.
She met her future husband, Everette, while working at her Aunt Ida McClure’s restaurant in Thurmond. They were engaged on Dec. 14, 1942, and were married on June 3, 1943, in Charleston. They set up housekeeping in Thurmond.
Mrs. Richmond was a member of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine for more than 50 years, and served as the Worthy Matron of the Thurmond Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was active in many volunteer organizations including the Heart Fund, the Cancer Society, 4-H, and Ladies Aid.
She also served for many years as an election official during primary and general elections. She was a member of Thurmond Union Church, and later of Rock Lake Presbyterian Church.
Surviving: her children, E. Roger and his wife, Judy, of Wilmington, Del., Larry and his companion, Anne Johnson, of Baltimore, Md., and Rose Ann Walker and her husband, John (with whom she lived), of Charleston; grandchildren, Joe and his wife, Renee, of Bear, Del., Mary Ann and Rachel Richmond of Baltimore, Md., PFC Justin A. Beall, U.S. Army, of Monterey, Calif., and Matthew and Daniel Walker of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Alissa Richmond of Bear, Del.; sisters, Vermont Neff of Danese, Hilma Nolan of Wilmington, Del., and Shirley Nolan of Bear, Del.; brother, Jackie Higginbotham and wife Barbara of Rock Hill, S.C.; former daughter-in-law, Judy Whitehill of Baltimore, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews; and many friends.

Harry Edward Spinks Jr.
Harry Edward Spinks Jr., of Chestnut Knob Road, Layland, died Dec. 24, 2009, at his home, following a long illness.
Born April 11, 1920, at Belle, he was the son of the late Harry Edward Spinks Sr. and Sallie Jane Burdette Spinks. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Carter, in 1995; two infant sisters; and a brother, Basil Spinks.
Mr. Spinks was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean War.
Harry was a retired inspector for TRW, Inc., and was a member of Aircraft Workers Alliance, and the United Auto Workers Local #2400.
Surviving: daughter, Connie Rogers of Jonesville, N.C.; son: Kenneth Spinks of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Bernard Spinks of Sunbury, Ohio; and grandchildren, Tiffany, Taylor, Kelleen, and Marissa.
Services were Dec. 29 at Chestnut Knob Baptist Church with Rev. Floyd Bolen officiating. Burial followed at Layland Cemetery, Layland.

Joan R. Wykle
Joan Ruby Hess Wykle died Dec. 21, 2009, at her home.
Joan, known by all as Babe, of Fayetteville, will be sadly missed by husband of 46 years, James William Wykle; daughters, Tina and Brinda Wykle; and her granddaughter, Devin Kate Wykle.
Joan was born Feb. 19, 1946, in Oak Hill, and has lived in Fayetteville for the past 34 years. She was the daughter of the late Loren “Cotton” Hess and his wife, Grace. She also was preceded in death by Sandra “Sue” Dutton of Fayetteville, Foun Shaffer of Amma, and Iwilda Canterbury of Florida.
She also has two remaining brothers, John Hess and wife Barbara of Oak Hill, and Paul Hess and wife Jerry of Ohio; and a sister, Judy Williams of Charleston. She will be sadly missed by friends and family and also was loved by her faithful chihuahua, “Baby.”
Funeral services were Dec. 27 at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill, with Pastor Juddie Buckley officiating. Entombment followed at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.
