Helen G. Armstrong

Helen G. Armstrong, 86, of Corliss, died Feb. 19, 2013, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She had resided at Ansted Center for the past 10 years.

Born March 20, 1926, at Corliss, she was the daughter of the late Henry C. and Bessie Costigan Harris. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Armstrong; an infant son, Dale; a son, James Armstrong; a daughter, Francis Smith Chavis; brothers, George, Herman, Harry Ray and Virgil Calvin Harris; and sisters, Lula May Walters, Clara Marie Sevy, Edna Virginia King, Mary Ella Burton, Lucy Annie Sevy, Elsie Maye Rodgers and Ethel Kincaid Worth.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving: daughters, Carolyn Hamrick (Wayne) of Frankford, and Kathy Alderman (Marvin Jr.) of Renick; a son, Robert Armstrong (Joan) of Corliss; daughter-in-law, June Armstrong Castle of Belle; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services was Feb. 22, at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating. Burial followed at Bethel Cemetery, Corliss.

Mary Josephine Turpin Blankenship

Mary Josephine Turpin Blankenship, 78, of Beckley, formerly of Oak Hill, died Feb. 20, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley.

Born July 23, 1934, at Carswell Hollow, she was the daughter of the late Bentley Turpin and Gay Delphia Turpin Johnson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Eugene Blankenship.

Mary had been a 14-year resident of Oak Hill.

She was a homemaker and a former member of the Living Word Church, Mossy.

Surviving: son, Eugene K. Blankenship of Beckley; sisters, Pam Souders and Harriet Cramer, both of Circleville, Ohio; grandchildren, Melanie Whelan, Crystal Gray, Teagen Nicole Blankenship and Kennedy Erika Blankenship; and great-grandchildren, Addy Gray and William Joseph Whelan.

Funeral services were Feb. 22, at Living Word Church in Mossy with Pastor Paul Basham officiating. Committal and entombment were at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Princeton.
