Joyce Marie Berry
Joyce Marie Berry, 64, of Rainelle, died May 28, 2014, in the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center at Fairlea.
Born Jan. 4, 1950, at Landisburg, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Ina Shuck Rhodes. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Burdette; brothers, Eugene “Bub” Rhodes and Jerry Rhodes; and sisters, Erma Lang and Vera Pollard.
Joyce owned and operated Cookie’s Cafe at Hines for many years. She was a great cook who enjoyed playing Bingo, working crossword puzzles and watching Wheel of Fortune.
Joyce loved to talk to her grandson, Jakob, on the phone and writing him letters.
Surviving: her devoted husband, Billy Ray Berry; her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Bishop and Robert of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Larry Rhodes and wife Lyndia of Meadow Bridge; sister, Carol Mitchem and husband Ron of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandson who was her pride and joy, Jakob Bishop of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held June 4 at the Trinity New Covenant Church, on Main Street in Rainelle, with Pastors Ronald McClung and Jim Atkinson officiating. Her cremains were interred in the Patton Memorial Cemetery at Meadow Bridge.

Larry Devon Burs
Larry Devon Burs died May 27, 2014.
Born Feb. 20, 1951, in Harlem Heights, he was the son of Mildred Burs of Deepwater and the late Johnnie Lee Burs Sr. Also preceding him in death was his brother, Johnnie Lee Burs Jr., and his companion of 17 years, Ernestine Sykes.
He attended Montgomery High School and Collins High School.
He then enlisted in the Air Force where he served his country fighting in Vietnam.
Larry was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Deepwater.
Surviving, in addition to his mother: brothers, Jerome Burs and his wife, Tina, Russell Burs and his wife, Kathy, of Smithers, Ray Burs and his wife, Melody, of Deepwater and Keith Burs and his wife, Jayleah, of Dunbar; sisters, Bathsheba Burkes, Carol Evans and her husband, Gary, of Charleston, Dinah Burs and Linda Neal of Charlotte, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews and a lot of friends.
Service was May 31 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Bishop Thomas Murray Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Meadow Haven Memorial Park, Ingram Branch.
