Ted Brinegar

Ted Brinegar, 93, of Glen Jean, died Feb. 10, 2010.

Born Feb. 10, 1917, at Jesse, he was the son of the late Dan Brinegar and Mary Allen Brinegar. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Brinegar; sons, George Michael Bobbitt, and Herbert Ball; granddaughter, Joyce Elaine Ball; brother, Alfonz Brinegar; and sisters, Felia Allen, Sadie Stewart, Goldie Bledsoe, and Julie Stewart.

Mr. Brinegar was a member of the New Beginning Church of God, Glen Jean, for 25 years.

Surviving: sons, Bovy Henry Ball and wife Candy of Glen Jean, William F. Bobbitt Jr. of Glen Jean, Gregory P. Thomas Leonard ‘Tommy’ Conliffe

Mr. Thomas Leonard “Tommy” Conliffe, 53, of Prudence Road, Harvey, died Feb. 10, 2010, at CAMC- General Division following a sudden illness.

Born Jan. 24, 1957, in Morris Creek, he was the son of the late Reginald and Burnell Staunton Conliffe. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Denolly, Drayton and Reginald Conliffe, and sister, Arvonia Diggs.

Tommy was a laborer and a member of Harvey Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving: his wife, Carolyn Coleman Conliffe; children, De’Von (Tina), Michelle and Nikki, all of Beckley, Crystal (Clarence), Tia and Taylor, all of Oak Hill, Devin (Reginald) of Atlanta, Ga., and LaToya of Dayton, Ohio; brothers and sisters, William (Linda) and Eldorado, both of Flint, Mich., John (Angie) and Laurgrita, both of Detroit, Mich., Rodney (Joann) and Antwan, both of Beckley, Cassandra (Luther) of Goldboro, N.C., and LaVern (Rudy) of Scarbro; 13 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Feb. 16 at Harvey Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Chapman and Rev. David Allen officiating. Burial followed in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

Clarice Ann Eastman

Clarice Ann Eastman, 75, of Ansted, died Feb. 4, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center, following a long illness.

Born Feb. 25, 1934, in Beckwith, she was the daughter of the late George Moses Arthur and Mamie Williams Arthur. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Eastman, and one daughter who was stillborn.

Mrs. Eastman was a homemaker and attended Good Hope Baptist Church.

Surviving: six sons and two daughters, Charles Eastman and wife Betty of Ansted, Marlene Butler and husband Randie of Gauley Bridge, Jimmy Eastman and companion Darlene White, Terry Eastman, Homer Eastman and wife Ellen, Karen Corum and husband David, Ricky Eastman and wife Paula, all of Ansted, and Kelly Eastman and wife Carolyn of Oak Hill; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchidlren and several nieces and nephews.

Service was Feb. 8 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel, Ansted, with Pastor Warren Gilpin officiating. Burial followed in the Hendrick Cemetery, Turkey Creek, Ansted.

Dorothy Dee Smith Kesler

Dorothy Dee Smith Kesler, 74, of Mt. Hope, died Feb. 10, 2010, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Born Oct. 8, 1935, at Denver, Colo., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Socorro Mascarenas Smith.

Dorothy was employed with the Maryland County Board of Education and was a member of the Mt. Hope Wesleyan Church.

Surviving: her husband, Gary Ribble Kesler; her son, Jonathan Kesler and his wife, Jeaann, of Mt. Hope; her daughters, Elizabeth Kesler of Finksburg, Md., and Martha Kesler of Salisbury, Md.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were Feb. 15 at the Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mt. Hope, with Rev. Richard Midkiff officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Frances W. Johnson Kincaid

Frances W. Johnson Kincaid, 90, of Page, died Feb. 8, 2010, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born October 27, 1919, at Narrows, Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Virginia Mae Gilliam Johnson. Her beloved husband, James Allen Kincaid Sr., whom she lovingly called “Jamie,” also preceded her in death. They were married for 65 years before he went to his heavenly home in 2004.

Frances was a lifelong member of the Kincaid United Methodist Church. She was also a dedicated member of the Oak Hill Chapter #107 O.E.S, having served in several leadership positions including Past Worthy Matron and, after much hard work, completed all the Chairs.

Her main passions were cooking for her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Kincaid was retired from the United States Postal Service serving as Postmaster at Page.

Surviving: son, James Allen “Jay” Kincaid Jr. and wife Mary Jane, of Page; daughters, Valeda O’Dell and husband John of Princeton, Beverly LeNoir and husband Steve of Sumter, S.C., and Kathy Selbe and husband Ben of Ripley; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were Feb. 10 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Arolette Stover officiating. Burial was at Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid.

Troy A. Logan Sr.

Troy A. Logan Sr., 62, of Crestview, Fla., died Feb. 10, 2010.

Born July 6, 1947, in Eagle, he was the son of the late Troy and Ruby Logan. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Logan.

Surviving: his wife of 44 years, Linda Logan, of Crestview; son, Troy Logan Jr. of Crestview; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank McPherson, also of Crestview; grandchildren, Spencer and Logan McPherson; brothers, Donald (Doris) Logan of Page, and Michael (Tammy) Logan of Mullens; sisters, Nancy (Kenneth) Lucas of Kimberly, Sarah (Jerry) Kincaid of Kincaid,Ann (Frank) Farrell of Nimitz, and Deborah (Jim) Guy of Centerville, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service was held Feb. 15 at the chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.

Bernice I. Blake Malenick

Bernice I. Blake Malenick, 96, of Dublin, Ohio, formerly of Ingram Branch, died Feb. 10, 2010, at Emerald Crossing in Dublin, Ohio.

Born Nov. 12, 1913, at Wriston, she was the daughter of the late Ira H. Blake and Erma Cox Blake Epperly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Malenick, on May 24, 1960; son, David Bower; brothers, Robert Blake, Carl Blake and John Blake; and sisters, Beulah Mosley, Wanda Hottle and Betty Jo Marlight.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving: daughters, Irene Long and husband Paul of Westerville, Ohio, Aulga Dennler and husband Bernard of Bean Station, Tenn., Mary Sefton of Hamilton, Ohio, and Linda Hawkins and husband Doug of Hardy, Va.; sons, Rev. Paul Malenick and wife Clara of Manassas, Va., Donal Malenick and wife Connie of Naples, Fla., and Mark Malenick and wife Marci of Towell, Ohio; brothers, Jack Blake of Virginia and Ray Blake of Tennessee; sister, Edith Burns of Kentucky; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were Feb. 14 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Paul Malenick officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Roger Clark Mann

Roger Clark Mann, 65, of Scarbro, died Feb. 11, 2010, at VA Medical Center in Beckley.

Born May 18, 1944, at Harmony Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Mack J. and Ruby C. (Roby) Mann. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Samuel and Houston.

Roger was a truck driver, an Army veteran of Vietnam, a member of the VFW and was a Christian.

Surviving: sister, Dottie Ziegler of Novi, Mich.; and brothers, Ray Mann of Marlinton and William Mann of Stafford, Va.

Funeral service was at VanReenen Funeral Home Feb. 16, with Pastor Richard Wanless officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Fund or the Disabled American Veterans.

Judy Magee Martin

Judy Magee Martin, 66, of Hilltop, died Feb. 14, 2010, at Cornerstone Hospital of Huntington.

Born Sept. 26, 1943, at Galesburg, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Harold R. Magee Sr. and Edna F. Connor Magee. Her brother, Harold R. “Mac” Magee Jr. , also preceded her in death.

Judy graduated from Galesburg High School and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale with a degree in Art.

She was a former Art Department director for West Virginia Public Television in Huntington and was a former employee of The Fayette Tribune, working with the Market Basket ads. She worked tirelessly with the Fayette County Head Start in the early 1980s and was a tutor with Reading Is Fundamental.

She was artistic and creative and loved working with her hands. It could be painting or sewing, sculpting or embroidery — her talent knew no bounds.

Surviving: her husband of 38 years, James A. Martin Jr.; her only son, of whom she was so proud, Peter M. Martin of Greensboro, N.C.; sister, Mildred “Mickie” Freed of Seattle, Wash.; sister-in-law, Harriet Magee of Florida; and nieces, Sharon of Florida, Shawn of Michigan, Sheila of Florida, and Christine Diane and Joan Anita, both of Washington.

In keeping with her wishes, Judy was cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

George W. Matheny Jr.

George W. Matheny Jr., 90, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 10, 2010.

Born in Deepwater, he was the son of the late George Walter Matheny Sr. and Gypsy Bartley Matheny. George also was preceded in death by his sisters, Katherine Matheny Scott and Margaret Matheny Fields.

George loved to garden, collect antiques, and sew. George made all of his own clothes.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving: niece, Ann Scott Gilmore and husband Robert of Delmar, Del.; and a grandniece, Katherine Gilmore Whitelock of Delmar, Md.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley, with Rev. Mike Kessinger officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may gather with the family 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Autism Recovery Resource Center, 2401 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV 25801, for the George W. Matheny Jr. Memorial Treatment Scholarship that will be used for biomedical therapy for Keith Elkins to continue his recovery.

Nila A. McGraw

Nila A. McGraw, 96, of South Charleston, died Feb. 6, 2010.

Born July 11, 1913, at Graydon, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Ida McGraw. She also was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry McGraw, Herbert McGraw, George McGraw, and Ira McGraw; and two sisters, Mabel Sandige and Mary Peacock.

Nila was a graduate of McMillan Hospital and retired as a nurse from Thomas Hospital.

Surviving: sister, Marie Fitzwater; and several nieces and nephews.

Service was Feb. 9 at Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Billy Kincaid officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

Janet V. Pritt

Janet V. Pritt, 68, of Barberton, Ohio, formerly of Quinwood, died Jan. 19, 2010, at her home, with her husband, children, family and pastor by her side.

Born March 12, 1941, in Quinwood, Janet was the daughter of the late Leo A. and Beatrice Hizer McMann.

Janet lived in Medina, Ohio, before moving to Barberton 37 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Life Tabernacle in Rittman, Ohio, where she loved and attended faithfully.

She received her GED Diploma June 16, 1988. She served as secretary of the PTA in the 1970s and ’80s. She enjoyed spending time with her family, tea parties, crossword puzzles, reading the Bible, crafting and photography.

She married Robert D. “Bob” Pritt on July 11, 1958. It was a happy occasion for her and Bob when they repeated their vows for their 50th anniversary on July 19, 2008.

Memories of Janet will be forever cherished by her survivors: her husband of 51 and a half years, Robert D. “Bob” Pritt of Barberton, Ohio; son, Douglas Pritt of Barberton; daughter, Dina Lynn Kinney, her husband Norman, and stepgranddaughter Sara of Louisville, Ohio; siblings and their spouses, brother Gerald and Alma McMann and sisters Nadine Guilliams, Wanda and Rozzle O’Dell, all of Quinwood, Elma Nutter of Russellville, Betty and Dan Nutter of Canvas, Shirley and Freddie Parkins of Ansted; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were held Jan. 22 at Life Tabernacle in Rittman with Pastors Ed G. Nichols and Freddie Parkins Sr. Officiating. Burial was at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.

Wanda Gay Sims

Wanda Gay Sims, 80, of Loops Road, died Feb. 12, 2010, in the St. Francis Hospital, Huntington, following a long illness.

Born Nov. 8, 1929, at Marfrance, she was the daughter of the late James Henry and Myrtle Tucker Gibson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Sims; a son, Jimmy Sims; and sisters, Claudia James and Icie Dorsey.

Mrs. Sims was a devoted homemaker who attended the Greenbrier Avenue Church of God in Rainelle.

Surviving: son, Dennis and wife Theresa Fekete Sims of Beckley; brothers, Eshmel Gibson of Rupert, Robert Gibson of Hines and Kenneth Gibson of Auburndale, Fla.; sisters, Arbutus Scutter of Ashland, Ky., Asline Guilliams of Hines, Deloris Vestal of McRoss and Juanita Amick of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Jeremy Sims of Corey, Pa., Melissa Brewer of Pax and Nancy Leatherberry of Cortlan, Ohio; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Amy Leatherberry and Kaitlyn Brewer.

Services were Feb. 16 at Smathers Funeral Chapel in Rainelle, with Pastor Chad Meadows officiating. Burial followed in the Sims Cemetery on Loops Road.

Frank Terry, 74, of Backus Mountain, Meadow Bridge, died Feb. 7, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Mount Hope.

James ‘Jim’ Tincher

James “Jim” Tincher, 63, of Oak Hill, died Feb. 6, 2010, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Service was Feb. 11 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Hilltop Cemetery.

Billy D. Tyree

Billy D. Tyree, 73, of Prosperity, died Feb. 13, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, following a long illness.

Born Aug. 1, 1936, at Pax, he was the son of the late James Garfield and Orpha Pauline O’Neal Tyree.

Mr. Tyree retired from DuPont Company in Beckley.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Prosperity.

Billy attended Pax High School and was on the 1954 Class B Basketball Championship Team. He was the assistant director of the Pax Reunion Committee, served on the board of the Raleigh County Commission on Aging and was a member of the Pax Regional Community Center.

Surviving: his wife of 53 years, Charlene Faye Billups Tyree; sons, Mark Tyree and wife Renee of Prosperity and David Tyree of Morgantown; and a special granddaughter, Emily Tyree of Prosperity.

Services were Feb. 17 at Tyree Funeral Home in Mount Hope with Minister Fred Ford and Pastor Gary Walker officiating. Entombment was at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Beckley.

Barbara Ann Asbury Williams

Barbara Ann Asbury Williams, 69, of Robson, died at her home Feb. 13, 2010.

Born July 30, 1940, at Oak Hill, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Thelma Coleman Asbury. She also was preceded in death by her sisters, Gloria Dean Aquino, Agatha Bishop and Loretta Hampton; and her brothers, Julian, Willis and Azel Asbury.

Barbara was a retired cook, having worked for the Fayette County Board of Education, and was an active member of the Robson Freewill Baptist Church.
