Elizabeth Taylor Rogers

Elizabeth Taylor Rogers, 76, of Ansted, died Sept. 26, 2013, in Bowers Hospice House of Beckley.

Born April 15, 1936, in Ansted, she was a daughter of the late Matthew Taylor and Sally Easley Taylor She also was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Dale Rogers Sr., and a son, Walter Dale Rogers Jr.

Liz enjoyed writing family poetry, her garden and her grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Mt. Chapel Baptist Church.

Surviving: her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Walter Reiter of Foundry; her grandchildren, Jameisha Rogers Carter, Latoria Dawn Rogers Cyprus, Sonya Rogers and Walter Dale Rogers III; and great-grandchildren, Daymon Carter, Jamera Carter and Sabria Rogers.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Mt. Chapel Baptist Church in Ansted with Rev. Herman L. James officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Helen Minerva McCormick Smith

Helen Minerva McCormick Smith, 100, of Kincaid, died Sept. 29, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.

Born March 17, 1913, at Poplar Gap, Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Berry and Mary Talithia Meddings McCormick. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Alton Smith, on June 13, 1983; by a son, Roy Junior Smith of Kincaid; by five daughters, Betty Jane Smith Lively of Strongville, Ohio, Mary Lou Smith Myers of Kincaid, Goldie Marie Smith Stapus of Phoenix, Ariz., Helen Ruth Smith Sizemore of Glen Morgan and Virginia Ellen Smith Hodges of Cleveland, Ohio; her brothers, Lyle Forrest McCormick, William Sylvester McCormick, James Bernard McCormick and Charles Clifford McCormick; and sisters, Mary Ann McCormick, Willie Mae McCormick Smith and Ruth Frances McCormick. Helen was the last surviving member of her brothers and sisters.

Helen was a homemaker and a longtime resident of Kincaid.

Surviving: her sons, Charles Edward Smith of Kincaid, Darrell Allen Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, George Robert Smith of Elyria, Ohio, Ray Alvin Smith of Glen Jean, Billy Lee Smith of Red Star and John Leslie Smith of Kincaid; her daughters, Beulah Pearl Smith Schnake of Pontiac, Mich., and Reba Jean Smith Sayers of Hill Top; 37 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, 6 stepgreat-grandchildren and one self-appointed grandson, David Miller of Prudence.

Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Pastor Brandon Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Kincaid Cemetery at Kincaid.

Naomi Lilly Wood

Naomi Lilly Wood, 95, of Scarbro, died Oct. 1, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill following a short illness.

Arrangements are pending completion at Pivont Funeral Home, Hinton.
