Donald Atwood

Donald Atwood 58, of Mt. Hope, died Sept. 27, 2012.

Born March 12, 1954, Donald was a son of the late Oscar and Stella Kirk Atwood. Donald also was preceded in death by his sons, Ryan and Preston Atwood; brother, Ralph Edward Atwood.

Donald was interested in old cars and was a NASCAR fan.

He attended Woodrow Wilson High School. He was employed as a coal miner with Eccles No. 5 Coal Mines.

Donald was of the Pentecostal faith.

Surviving: his sister, Phyllis Sheets of Mt. Hope, and Peggy Jones and husband Kester of Scarbro; brothers, Thomas Atwood and wife Margaret of Scarbro, and John Atwood of Crab Orchard; nieces, Haley and Abigail Newman; nephew, Michael Atwood; and Jeff Bragg, who was Donald’s caretaker.

Services were Oct. 3 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Randy Mann officiating. Burial followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Mable Marie Dixon Bennett

Mable Marie Dixon Bennett, 91, of Oak Hill, died Oct. 2, 2012, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Elizabeth Thorn Campbell

Elizabeth Alice Cottle Thorn Campbell, 91, died Sept. 24, 2012, at the Lima Manor Nursing Home, Lima, Ohio.

Born Sept. 12, 1921, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Daisy I. Arthur Cottle. On Feb. 4, 1982, she married Alfred E. “Al” Campbell, who passed away on Nov. 9, 1991. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Thorn, who passed away on Feb. 23, 1975; and a step-son, John W. Campbell.

Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Forest Park United Methodist Church, Lima, and was a volunteer with the Lima Memorial Health System Auxiliary, since 1975.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Waynesfield, Ohio Lodge No. 273.

Surviving: stepsons, Leonard D. Campbell of Baneberry, Tenn., Marshall K. Campbell of Elida, Ohio, and Paul W. Campbell of Lima; stepdaughters, Mary E. and Robert Roose of Danese, and Nelda K. and John Jolliff of Casa Grande, Ariz.; many stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 29 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Glen Kuhn officiating. Burial was in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the Lima Memorial Health System Auxiliary.
