Phillip Louis Prete

Phillip Louis Prete, 76, of Montgomery, died Sept. 2, 2013.

Born Sept. 8, 1936, in Star City, he was the son of the late Louis and Theresa Raymond Prete.

He was a member of the UMWA. He was a former employee of Marathon Industries prior to going into the coal mining field where he retired from Peabody Coal Company in Boone County.

He was former street commissioner of the City of Montgomery and formerly employed by the DOH.

He was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving: his wife, Carolyn Spaulding Prete; children, Louie Prete and his wife, Tammy, of Fayetteville, Sherri Allred and her husband, Jeff, of Charleston, Philip J. Prete and his wife, Tracy, of Montgomery, and Lisa Conley and her husband, Paul, of Summersville; grandchildren, Jason, Michael, Rachel, Brooke, Joshua, Seth and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Kaya and Cole; and his beloved furry best friends, Maggie and Susie.

Service was Sept. 4 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Frank Brown officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

George Galen Shrout

George Galen Shrout, 74, of Craigsville, formerly of Oak Hill, died Sept. 4, 2013, at CAMC - General Division in Charleston.

Born March 8, 1939, at Oswald, he was the son of the late Buckner and Ophelia Ramsey Shrout. Four brothers, Thomas Shrout, Edward Shrout, Charles Shrout and Chester Shrout, also preceded him in death.

He was a retired surface mine foreman for Ellen Inc. of Beckley.

Surviving: sons, Ritch Shrout and wife Michelle of Centerburg, Ohio, and David “Skip” Shrout and wife Cindy of Westerville, Ohio; brother, Noel Shrout of Derry Hale; sisters, Bethel Martin of Mill Creek and Hildred Dodrill of Dille; granddaughters, Brooks Brooks of Columbus, Ohio, and Amanda Rossey, Mindy Goudy and Caylee Shrout, all of Westerville; great-granddaughters, Brianna Brooks of Columbus, Ohio, and Taylor Ducilli of Westerville; and great-grandsons, Tyler Rossey and Zaylan Shrout, both of Westerville.

Funeral services were Sept. 8 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with John Wood officiating. Burial was at Nuttall Cemetery, Edmond.
