Carlos Ray Arthur Sr.

Carlos Ray Arthur, Sr., 73, of Fayetteville, died Oct. 19, 2013, at his residence after a long illness.

Born Aug. 27, 1940, at Prosperity, he was the son of the late Frank E. and Pansy M. Wilson Arthur. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles F. Arthur.

Carlos was a retired school principal, retiring from Rosedale Elementary School.

He was a member of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church, and a member of the Fayette County Association of Retired School Employees.

Surviving: his wife, Yvonne Tatum Arthur of Fayetteville; his son, Carlos Ray “Butch” Arthur Jr. of Cary, N.C.; sisters, Jessie Arthur Tolley and her husband, Dave, of Charleston, and Jo Ann Arthur Kidd Davis and her husband, John, of Mount Hope; and a sister-in-law, Freida Arthur, the widow of his deceased brother, Charles.

A memorial service was held Oct. 22 at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church with Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn officiating.

Roy Edward Bell

Roy Edward Bell, 58, of Fayetteville, died suddenly Oct. 19, 2013.

Born on Sept. 1, 1955, at Beckwith, he was the son of the late Robert Lawrence and Audrey Blake Bell. He also was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Bell; brothers, Harold Bell and Mike Bell; and a baby infant sister.

Roy served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division.

He had worked as a lineman for the cable companies and was employed with Sherry’s of Fayetteville.

He was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos. He also enjoyed working on cars, hunting, and fishing.

Surviving: his daughter, Christi (Keith) McGraw of Fayetteville; grandson and granddaughter, Will McGraw and Kinlee McGraw, both of Fayetteville; a special little girl near and dear to his heart, Shannen Davis of Ansted; brothers, David (Kathy) Bell of Warfield, Ky., Teddy (Barbara) Bell of Oak Hill, Don (Julie) Bell of Dallas, Ga., and Timmy Bell of Fayetteville; sisters, Trilby (Dan) Johnson of Greenville, S.C., Sherry (Johnny) Varney of Nashville, Tenn., and Lisa (Doug) Miller of Fayetteville; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Mike Parsons and Pastor Danny Goins officiating. Burial will follow at the Blake Family Cemetery at Beckwith.
