Karen Ann Barley

Karen Ann Barley, 71, of Maple Fork, died Oct. 26, 2012, in Fairfax, Va.

Born Aug. 8, 1941, in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Baird Worthington. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ray Barley.

Karen was a member of the Mt. Hope Winolia Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving: her daughter, Stacy Riggs and her husband, Rich, of Lorton, Va.; grandchildren, Austin and Madison Riggs; as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 3, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Skee Barley officiating. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 12110, Charleston, WV 25302.

Herbert Edward Bowyer

Herbert Edward Bowyer, 78, of Route 1, Fayetteville, died Oct. 31, 2012, at his home surrounded by family.

Born Oct. 23, 1934, at Oak Hill, he was the son of the late Jesse Herbert Bowyer and Cleo (Atkins) Bowyer. He also was preceded in death by three older sisters.

Surviving: his loving wife of over 55 years, Zetta Jane (Bernath) Bowyer; sons, David Bowyer, and Herbie Bowyer and his wife, Donna, all of Fayetteville, and Mark Allen Bowyer and his wife, Olivia, of Vineland, N.J.; daughter, Deanna Lynne Brooks of Fayetteville; sister, Bertha Mae Compton and her husband, Bennie, of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; three grandsons; four granddaughters; 11 great-grandchildren; three special sisters-in-law; one special brother-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was Nov. 5 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Rev. Joe Cuthbertson officiating. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Beckley with military rites conducted by the Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.
