James William McAllister

James William McAllister, 78, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born March 15, 1934, at Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of the late William H. and Pearl S. Ritenour McAllister. A sister, Margaret Merchant, also preceded him in death.

He was a retired salesman.

Surviving: his wife, Freda Rae Hutcheson McAllister; son, James W. McAllister Jr. of Butler, Pa.; daughters, Joan A. Hodge of Cabin Creek and Jean McAllister of Oak Hill; and a brother, Howard L. McAllister of Titusville, Fla.

Mr. McAllister was cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

Clinton Roosevelt Merritt

Clinton Roosevelt Merritt, 77, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 4,  2013, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born Feb. 24, 1935, at Raleigh, N.C., he was the son of the late Luther Merritt and Queen Elizabeth Mills Merritt. Clinton also was preceded in death by the love of his life, Linda Merritt, who passed away in January 2006.

Surviving: his daughter, Clinetra Merritt Pannell and husband William of Beckley; and grandchildren, Kanille Pannell, Keshawn Pannell, Kamya Pannell, and Katyra Pannell.

Funeral service was Jan. 8 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Brian Freeman officiating. Interment followed in High Lawn Memorial  Park.

Jerry Allen Neal

Jerry Allen Neal, 69, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born July 31, 1943, at North Matewan, he was the son of the late Homer Neal and Vada (Huffman) Neal. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Phillip and Robert, and a sister, Sue Crum.

Jerry served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wasp.

He attended Shepherds Worship Center.

He was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking and was a disabled coal miner.

Surviving: his wife of nearly 50 years, Maurnetia Sue (Reid) Neal; children, Erin Rollyson and her husband, Damon, of Gauley Bridge, and Eric L. Neal and his wife, Kathy, Chery L. Farrell and her husband, Frank, and Lisa Hamilton and her companion, Adam, all of Oak Hill; sister, Yvonne Mills of Ohio; grandchildren, John Adam Mullins, Elizabeth Canaday and her husband, Joey, Eric “Landon” Neal II, and Heather (Bowyer) Kincaid, all of Oak Hill, Andrea Lewis of Fayetteville, Weston Toney, Brittany Farrell, and Samantha Farrell, all of Oak Hill, Kristina Neal of Beckley, and Tara Hamilton of Oak Hill; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren on the way.

Funeral service was Jan. 6 at High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, with Pastor Rick Martin officiating. Burial followed in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, with military rites conducted by Oak Hill V.F.W. Post 3110.
