GBHS All-Class Reunion — The All GBHS Reunion will be held the weekend of June 24 to 26, with the main activities set for 2 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at the old school, which is now a community center operated by the Town of Gauley Bridge and dedicated to the memory of Ruby Winebrenner, former town councilman and the high school’s first Miss Traveller. Anyone who attended, taught at, worked at or was affiliated with Gauley Bridge High School is invited to attend the event. Boys and girls alumni basketball games (odd-year graduates versus even-year graduates) will be contested, with the alumni jazz band playing at both events. The girls game will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7 p.m. A sock hop will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. The school will be open on Sunday, June 26 from 11 am to 3 p.m. for folks to mingle with their families, former classmates and friends. There can be no alcohol on the site pursuant to Town Code. No money is expected up front for the reunion, but there will be a $2 per person charge to get into the ball games. This money will be used to cover the cost of the D.J. for the sock hop. A concession stand will be available, offering hot dogs, nachos and cheese, popcorn, coffee, soda, water, candy and other items. Anyone planning on attending the reunion, participating in one of the basketball games, being in the parade (2 p.m. Saturday), playing in the band or jazz band, cheering, etc., is urged to e-mail their name and class to email@example.com. Between the parade and the first basketball game, some of the old teaching staff will be on hand to speak to the crowd. For more information, look for ALL GBHS Reunion on Facebook, or contact Betty Jo Cole Donato. There will be a meeting to discuss reunion plans at the old high school in the former band room on Wednesday, March 30 at 5 p.m. Everyone is welcome. All ideas and suggestions are welcome, also.
