Upcoming local reunions

Lansing/Ames Reunion — The annual Lansing/Ames Reunion is scheduled for this weekend. There will be a gospel sing Friday, June 17 at 7 p.m. at the Lansing Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to meet Saturday, June 18 at Burnwood Campground to reminisce about “the good ole days” and fellowship with old friends. Residents of Edmond, as well as those who worked in the mines at Nuttallburg also are invited to attend the weekend’s events. Please bring a covered dish to share, old photos, and lots of memories to help enjoy a day of camaraderie and fellowship.

Nugen Reunion — The Nugen Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 2, at Fayette County Park, Beckwith, Shelter #7. Bring the family, a dish and an auction item. Bring your photo albums and stories and enjoy the family’s rich heritage.

CHS Class of 1956 — The Collins High School Class of 1956 is looking for several individuals in preparation of planning its 55-year class reunion, set for Thursday, Sept. 1. Vandall-Sawyers Reunion — The Vandall-Sawyers Family Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 6 at Grandview Park at the playground shelter. Participants are asked to bring a meat dish and a side dish and one recipe to be used in a family cookbook. Donations for shelter and supplies would be appreciated. Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. GBHS Class of 1981 — The Gauley Bridge High School Class of 1981 will have its 30th reunion on Saturday, June 25 beginning at 10 a.m. at Shelter #3 at Fayette County Park in Beckwith.

Blankenship Family Reunion — The annual Blankenship reunion will be held Saturday, June 18, at Fayette County Park, Beckwith, in Shelter #1. Lunch is scheduled for 1 p.m., so bring your favorite food to share and plan to join in a day of fun, good food, music, games and prizes. Proctor & Brown Family — The Proctor & Brown Family Reunion will be held July 30 at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park, 1194 Carnifex Ferry Rd., Summersville.

Deepwater Reunion — The 17th annual Deepwater Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Shelter #6, Fayette County Park, Beckwith. Please bring a covered dish; lunch will be at noon. MHS Class of 1961 — The Montgomery High School Class of 1961 will have its 50-year reunion Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Ramada Inn in South Charleston. Deadline for reservations is June 15. If you would like to attend and did not receive a letter from the committee, please contact George Fisher at 304-779-2886.

GBHS All-Class Reunion — The GBHS All-Class Reunion will run from Friday, June 24 to Sunday, June 26. On June 24, the school, which is now the Gauley Bridge Community Center and is dedicated to the memory of Ruby Winebrenner, will open at 4 p.m. for final reunion setup. Anyone who would like to have a booth can contact Donato. Following is a schedule for Saturday, June 25: 9 a.m. — golf scramble, Hawks Nest State Park Golf Course (those who wish to take part are urged to register with Donato as soon as possible); 1 p.m. — parade through Main Street (lineup at 12:30 p.m. at Scrabble Creek tennis courts; walking entries are advised to meet at the fire department to be placed in the lineup; participants should call or e-mail Donato and tell her what type of entry you will have) 2:30 p.m. — ladies fast-pitch softball game, Neal Field up Scrabble Creek (odd-year teams will play even-year teams; concessions will be available); 3 p.m. to midnight — high school will be open (a representative from Hatcher’s Music in Oak Hill will have a booth to sell CDs of the music of James Warren); 5:30 p.m. — women’s basketball game at the gym (odd-year teams will play even-year teams, and concessions will be available; price of admission is $5, which will cover both games and the sock hop afterwards); 7 p.m. —  men’s basketball game at the gym (odd-year teams will play even-year teams, and concessions will be available; this will also feature alumni cheerleaders and jazz band and Mr. Warren); and 8 p.m. (or immediately following second game) to midnight — old fashioned sock hop in the gym (Clarence “Lu Lu” Shepherd will be the deejay).
