Concord University senior linebacker Jake Lilly was recently named one of three NCAA Division II “Brightest Rising Seniors” by the Beyond Sport Network (BSN).

Lilly is coming off of a junior season in which he played in all 11 games, racking up 126 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, 0.5 sacks and six pass break-ups. He led the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) in tackles for a second consecutive season while also ranking fourth in Division II in tackles per game and fifth in solo tackles per game.

For his efforts, Lilly was named the WVIAC Defensive Player of the Year, Daktronics All-Region, Don Hansen Football Gazette All-Region and a first team BSN All-American.

His 126 tackles ranked were the third-highest single-season total in Concord history. He will begin his senior season ranked fifth for the Mountain Lions in career tackles.

Concord, which has finished with a winning record for four consecutive seasons, will begin its 2013 season Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at Lenoir-Rhyne. CU defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 24-21 last year.
